Florentin Blanchett
The Mad Doctor
20 ♡ January 4 ♡ Demiboy ♡ Student ♡ Villain ♡ Human ♡ College ♡ Sophomore ♡ Major in Magic Theory and Necromancy

Appearance Description

Florentin has jet black hair, porcelain skin, pink lips, and an aquiline nose, like a modern Snow White. He doesn’t have harsh edges, just soft ones, giving him a unique angelic look. By all accounts, Florentin is considered very beautiful. Despite his initial innocent features, there’s one thing that stands out in his face – his eyes. Although they complete his pretty look with long eyelashes and a beauty mark right under his left eye, they’re colored a bright, poisonous green that look a little off and unsettling.

He speaks in clear and articulate tones, marking his speech as a well-mannered gentleman and scholar. He often smells of lilies. It’s not an intrusive scent, simply something people would notice if they were to stand really close.

Florentin stands at 5’8”ft, thin with almost no muscle definition. He’s really soft-looking in general. As far as wardrobe goes, he follows the latest fashions and goes for monochrome colors, often whites and silvers. He doesn’t like big, obnoxious prints, and if he does wear them they’re stylistic. He prefers cute tiny patterns, usually of skulls. He likes dressing respectably, but will sometimes trade that for just plain adorable.

As The Mad Doctor, Florentin sports a distinct look made with a customized lab coat, stylized arm-length rubber gloves and black pants. As practical as it is fashionable. The most distinct part of his costume is the black mask with a signature cartoon grin on it. Florentin chose the grin to intimidate and distract victims from his actual facial features. It also serves as a gas mask and a voice modulator, lowering his voice several timbers.

Personality Description

Florentin Blanchett acts appropriately to his pedigree. He’s a polite, well-mannered gentleman in important social events, and he’s an amicable and unpretentious character in more casual settings. He’s friendly and fun with a good sense of humor and charm in the right amounts. Most people can’t find any flaws with him, at least flaws that could rub them the wrong way.

Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find that Florentin has as much dirt as anybody else, if not more. Florentin is wealthy and sheltered, spoiled to his very core. He’s vain, self-centered and condescending to the people around him. He’s more than a little in love with himself and he always gets what he wants. Not getting what he wants is an inconceivable concept to him. He’s stubborn to a fault, and he has enough smooth talking practice that he can use it to steer things in his favor. When he doesn’t get what he wants, he gets red in the face, and goes home to throw a giant baby tantrum.

He likes to believe he’s in control of his own emotions, when in truth, his emotions could get the best of him at times. Florentin is very good at keeping up public appearances, but he’s so easily overwhelmed by everything because everything feels so new to him. Shiny things excite him. Pretty people make his heart beat faster. It’s near impossible for Florentin to be casual with a subject; it’s all or nothing, and everything is done with dramatic flair. Passion is something Florentin has in spades.

His passion is easily matched by his intelligence and curiosity. Florentin is a genius in magic considered taboo by his family line. He throws himself at his studies because he loves learning and magic. If given the chance, Florentin will chatter on and on about magic. There’s always a practical sense to Florentin’s curiosity, however. If Florentin sees that he can’t apply a subject to something in his life then he can’t really see the point of studying it. Necromancy, the magic of triumphing over death, is, in his opinion, the most important branch of magic there is.

Hilariously, as knowledgeable and brilliant he is in fields he’s taken an interest in, Florentin is pathetic when it comes to common knowledge most people know because, in between his wealth and the availability of servants, he’s never had a need to learn them. Florentin is brilliant to talk to when it comes to etiquette and scholarly pursuits, but don’t expect him to know anything about cooking.

Florentin finds it hard to love and trust people that he doesn’t already because he doesn’t think he can stomach loss again. This has altered how he views other people. They’ve stopped being organic beings with their own feelings and own tragedies, their stories simply being stories to him. Uninteresting. Unattached. It’s as if he turned off the part of his brain that can experience empathy to people that aren’t Sasha for his own safety. He can get a little cruel with his games, takes people and discards them with no second thought when they’ve stopped being fun. He’s at his most unstable around Early March, which was when his Aunt Cosette died.

Florentin is young and beautiful, and he needs a lot of help.

Worst Memory: Aunt Cosette dying. Watching Sasha leave the estate “forever.”

Likes: Sasha, Necromancy, his own reflection, all things NEW!!, trends, horror literature, cute clothes, shiny jewelry, pretty people, raging parties, other branches of magic, all things spooky and weird, and did he say Sasha because he definitely loves Sasha. That’s a thing. Florentin is hype about many things, just in general.

Dislikes: Things that don’t last, people that don’t keep promises, people that flatter him because of his money. People that claim they know him. They really don’t. To a lesser extent, carrots, metal music, clothing in bright colors, and heavily processed food. Takeout makes him sick.

Weaknesses: Dust, germs, allergies, exercise. Being unable to gauge his own alcohol tolerance. Physical violence pls no bully. Getting picked up by strong and handsome men, oh gosh, no, he’s gay and weak.

Strengths: Necromancy and magic, charming people’s socks off, looking hella cute and Powerful at the same time.

Fears: His death. Sasha’s death. Getting attached to something and having it yanked from your grasp. Loss, in general.

Powers

Death Magic

All Blanchetts possess some degree of magic, particularly in the area of life and death. Although most Blanchetts are discouraged nowadays from the practice of Necromancy, Florentin still decided to pursue it, and it turns out that he has a natural talent for the art. Florentin’s area of expertise is Necromancy, but he holds a degree of talent to general Death magic.

Necromancy (UPDATED)

Florentin prides himself in being a powerful necromancer. His greatest ability is raising the dead with their sentience intact by binding their souls to their bodies. The upside to this is that they would no longer need basic things like water, air, food and sleep to sustain themselves. The downside is that they’ll only be able to experience sensations if their nerve endings are still intact, and there is nothing that will prevent their body from falling into rot and decay because their body is still technically dead, though Florentin is capable of replacing organs with artificial or organic substitutes. They can be killed if their heads are severed or their entire body is destroyed. Florentin's experienced, so he has a 90% chance of raising them sentient. In the off-chance that he fucks up, they will turn rabid and attack the first person they see.

Florentin can transfer a consciousness to another body as long as the original heart and brain belong to the original person. In cases where it’s just a heart or a brain, it will only be a partial transfer – just transferring the brain would let them stay mostly the same but the body’s owner would influence their personality in subtle or significant ways, while transferring the heart would make them lose all of their knowledge, effectively giving them amnesia while still retaining their original personality.

To a lesser extent, Florentin can raise the dead to become his servants, which is an easier process than raising them with their sentience intact. This requires him to visualize an order in his head before raising them. The undead servant will then live until they carried out their order or until they are killed. The orders have to be simple with only one specific goal, otherwise it’s just a whole mess where the servant will keep doing something and never stop. There’s also the possibility that the order could be misinterpreted, and he can’t change the order once the ghoul is raised. He’d have to have it killed for it to stop. Theoretically, he can raise as many as he wants, but the entire process is very exhausting.

Mediumship + Mental Resistance

Florentin’s strong death affinity makes him able to see and communicate with spirits. He can also be used as a vessel by spirits to communicate with other people, if Florentin consents to it. Being a medium has significantly strengthened Florentin’s mental resistance to prevent casual spiritual possession. Telepathy, leaky auras, compulsions, magical suggestion, minor illusions, and empathetic powers will not get past his nigh impenetrable mental fortress.

Death Aura

Florentin’s extensive study and exposure to Death Magic has permanently altered the composition of his aura. Florentin exudes an aura of death, and it inadvertently rots plants and slowly suffocates small animals. It has no effect on people, but if Florentin is particularly upset, his aura spills out and gives the room a heavy feeling, the same feeling people get when a situation is particularly tense.

Florentin is not immune to his own aura. It has significantly weakened his own already weak immune system and made him more susceptible to disease. In addition to this, Florentin's blood is pure poison, and he's slowly building up tolerance to harmful substances because of it.

Biography

Florentin was the firstborn heir to the prestigious line of healers in Manta Carlos, the Blanchetts. He had the looks, intelligence and force of personality to be Julien Blanchett’s perfect heir, but there was one problem: Florentin was born with weak lungs. Florentin’s infancy was marked with frequent visits to the hospital, and he often fainted when playing in the gardens. It was then that Julien and Clementine decided to isolate Florentin from the world, homeschooling him and having several doctors check on his condition often.

He wasn’t Julien and Clementine’s only child. When he was three, little Auguste was born, and when he was five, Odette. For a while, the siblings were close, but the two were eventually allowed to attend Starlight Academy while Florentin was stuck indoors. Unfortunately for them, Florentin had no intentions of being happy for them. As a young child, Florentin became bitter at his siblings, their freedom, his condition, and especially being born to a family of renowned healers that could do nothing for him. His siblings didn’t notice he’d retreated to himself; they had better, healthier friends to play with.

Florentin was alone. He threw himself at his studies and fostered a love for the macabre, but children were never supposed be alone for prolonged periods of time. His parents were busy, and while Aunt Cosette stayed at the mansion, she had socials and parties. She was kind, though, and when she wasn’t busy, she and Florentin would make origami in the gardens.

One day, Florentin noticed there was a new servant boy around the Estate, and he was around his age. Florentin was despised this child, seeing him as competition for his parents' affection. However, Sasha made a point to befriend him, and they became best friends in no time. Sasha was the only friend he needed, he thought. Sasha was always gentle with him, told him stories, and played extravagant games with knights and princes all afternoon. When all was said and done, they always had each other.

At the same time, Florentin was being taught the finer arts of business and magic. Business was easy. Florentin was easily the most charming child, brighter than his siblings, and his parents had no doubt he would inherit the business when he grew up. Magic was a lot harder. For the longest time, Florentin thought he had no magic, or was simply unaccustomed to the healing arts. They decided that Florentin would be Head of the Estate, but Odette would most likely be in charge of magical matters. Florentin felt both envy and relief.

Aside from a few squabbles with his siblings, nothing much really disturbed his childhood. He fainted a lot due to his weak body and grew up avoiding a great deal of responsibilities to sneak off and coerce Sasha into playing with him in their expansive gardens. All of his needs were taken care of as soon as they arose. It wasn’t a terrible life.

The downward spiral began when he was twelve years old. His beloved Aunt Cosette fell ill. At first, Florentin never really saw this as a thing to be worried about because he got sick all the time. Nothing really bad happens when you’re sick. The healers would restore you back. But Aunt Cosette was confined to her bed for two months, and after that, she… died.

Her death shook Florentin in his foundations. At first, he wanted to deny that it happened. He was happy. He had a good life. Bad things happened, threatened things, but they never came true. After half a year of denying it, Florentin snapped and shut the entire world out. After all, what was the point of all this if everyone just eventually died? He couldn’t get out of bed.

He woke up one day and decided he never wanted death to come. He threw himself at his studies with vigor – causes of deaths, bacteria, accidents, injuries, myths, stories. He soaked up almost all the literature he could find on the topic of death. He was particularly enamored with Shelley’s Frankenstein and Lovecraft’s The Reanimator. Despite the obvious warnings of the stories, he thought he could do a better job.

Healing. Healing. Healing never did anything for anybody. It just prolonged the inevitable. He wanted to get to the bottom line and get rid of what healing was trying to prevent in the first place: Death. Florentin went deeper in the family libraries and dusted off the old spellbooks, ignoring his family’s hateful venom regarding the darker arts. He picked up everything about necromancy that he could find and embedded everything into memory. It was there that he found out the Blanchett’s secrets. They weren’t just healers; they were also necromancers. Life and death, light and darkness – it was all intertwined. Florentin was never supposed to heal. He was supposed resurrect, to control death in ways people never thought was possible.

After familiarizing himself with the theoretical aspects, e needed to test it on actual cadavers. He snuck into the meat freezer and brought a small basket of fish back to life, which promptly died again in the freezer. He practiced on squirrels, animals. This worked. But what about people?

When Florentin was sixteen, he snuck out of the Estate gates for the very first time. Sasha had been keeping track of his problematic behavior recently and opted to follow him. Florentin went deep into the city, falling in love with its bright lights and promises, and after going into a night club and exiting in the back door, he and Sasha found a dying hobo in a dark alley. They waited until it died before attempting to reanimate it. Unfortunately, a rich-looking pretty boy in a dark alley spelled bad news. They were chased by muggers, and Sasha brought Florentin back into the Estate safe and sound.

His parents were overjoyed to find their son in one piece. That wasn’t the end of Florentin’s adventures, however. Florentin became addicted to the living, breathing pulse of city life and made a break for the other side of the gates at every opportunity he got. At some point, Florentin’s parents got fed up with him “acting out” and decided that they couldn’t keep him sheltered for long. They said he was allowed to explore the city, provided that Sasha came along with him as his official bodyguard.

He socialized and partied with people, made a lot of friends and lovers. People were naturally drawn to Florentin’s beauty, wealth and charm. He thought he was okay. He thought he was over everything that happened.

He was horribly mistaken. One of his friends in the city got drunk out of his mind and fell off the fourth floor balcony.

There was an ungodly splatter, and the sound of a wailing car.

He supposed he fainted, because when he next awoke, he was in the Estate. Florentin became a recluse again, and this time, he was more than determined to perfect his magic. He sneaked off one night and slit the throat of a sleeping hobo, and brought him back to life with his magic. The hobo became rabid. It tried to attack him, but before it could even lay hands on him, Sasha cut off its head and killed it permanently.

One more time. One more time. He was sure he could perfect it this time. Florentin was unstable, jittery. His parents locked down the exits so he couldn’t sneak out again, but he begged and pleaded Sasha to take him out because he wouldn’t be okay if they didn’t at least try. Sasha reluctantly agreed.

They dug up Aunt Cosette’s corpse in the old Graveyard and brought her back to life… but Aunt Cosette looked at her bony, shriveled, rotten body and screamed, begging Florentin to end this miserable existence. He did. The cops found Florentin and Sasha the next morning.

He knew Sasha was going to get in trouble after what happened. He gave Sasha a tight hug and promised him that he would perfect his magic and they would never need to get separated ever again.

A month later, Florentin’s bags were packed and his parents were ready to send him off to another house while they did damage control. They were ashamed of what he did – the sneaking, the Necromancy. They needed to clean up the name Florentin so carelessly smeared with his actions. They thought it was their fault, they isolated him. Perhaps it was high time Florentin leave the estate to take the world on his own and become an adult. They stripped him of his title as heir until he made it up to them and showed them that it was a title that he could handle.

His parents were adamant to separate Florentin and Sasha, but Florentin refused to go with a bodyguard that wasn’t Sasha. In the end, they acquiesced, as long as Sasha gave them weekly updates of Florentin’s health condition.

Additional Information:

Florentin is known as The Mad Doctor because of his outfit and murder signature: When the cops find his victims, they're branded with numbers on their shoulder, and are horribly experimented, some to the point they're barely recognizable.
