With a single kick off, Obsidian slid towards his beloved chair with a proud grin. Within a few meters of it, he spun around on one foot and plonked down into the soft, damp chair. This chair was the most skilled chair he'd ever 'borrowed' and it was a wonderful opportunity to show his own skills in the art of chair skating. He coughed, clearing his throat before flexing his neck.

"I shall begin then," he chuckled, extending his arm to a nearby tree, his shadow began to stretch in that direction before he grabbed the air, the shadow seizing a root of the tree. He grinned wildly, retracting the shadow's form which caused a whiplash effect. Scooting him down the lake, before using the same ability to stop himself with another branch behind him.

This was all a new experience for Loch. He managed to stay upright for the entire demonstration, watching with wide eyes as the man sent himself flying across the lake for a second time. He missed the shadow aspect of it, instead seeing only the man reach his arm out and then move.

Loch had always been aware of magic; how could he not? He was a monster that could look like a human. But magic was always an unpleasant thing, until now.

Now he was laughing.

"Alright, no, seriously....how are you doing that? I can't even stand on these two things and there you are on a chair. Is it easier on a chair? WHat if you wore my skates?"

It was probably the most words he'd said to one person in quite a while. He managed to awkwardly walk closer to Savannah to continue to watch the spectacle.

"I totally want to try that," he admitted.

He was too busy watching to notice that the sky had started to darken with thick, puffy clouds that promised a lot of snow.

Savannah smiled as she heard the guys laugh. It always made her happy to hear people genuinely laugh, and who wouldn't at this scenario? She'd been so distracted by what was happening, she'd barely noticed that she was rather cold. She pulled her hat a little more over her ears, and wiggled her fingers. she held them out in front of her. "Poor hands, they'll be ice cubes soon. Yours must be cold as well," she said as Loch manged to skate to her side. She watched the man go around the lake on his chair, but something didn't seem right. She watched as he went around, but his shadow, as he reached for a tree seemed different. Longer than most, and sorta as if they were acting on their own. "Uh, is it just me, or is there something funny going on with his shadow?" Maybe she was just crazy. She shrugged, and buried herself deeper in her coat. She looked at Loch. At her best guess, she assumed that he was younger than her. He looked like it, but she wasn't sure how young. "How old are you?" she asked, playfully nudging him, but careful not to make him fall. She watched as the man finished his little show, and started to make his way back to the two, huddled in their coats from the cold, standing next to each other.

"Poor hands, they'll be ice cubes soon. Yours must be cold as well," she said as Loch manged to skate to her side.

Loch dug his hands out of his pockets and wiggled them, too. The tips were a little red and they sort of hurt, but Loch didn't always have the best grasp on his fingers.

"yeah," he admitted.

"I should really get myself a pair of gloves. Here, I'll warm yours up," he said, holding out his hands with the clear indication of holding hers and rubbing them for warmth. There was no bashfulness in his gesture, no indication that it might be taken as flirtation, but his smile remained steadfast.

Her next question through him off. "How old are you?" she asked, playfully nudging him, but careful not to make him fall.

He didn't fall; he was a little wobblier, but it looked like Loch was getting the hang of this.

"I don't know," he shrugged, "17? 18? Somewhere around there. I know if this was a regular city, I can probably get a drivers permit. "

He looked a little uncomfortable, maybe a little embarrassed, that he didn't know his own age. He hoped she didn't notice, so he didnt' let his smile falter.

Savannah looked at his hands, with the red tips and smiled understandingly. She blinked when he held his hands out to her, to warm them. She knew he was just trying to be nice, but it had been so long since anything like this had ever happened. Her voice was a little shaky as she placed her hands in his. "Well, if you think it will help, hopefully they won't make your hands any colder." His hands were a little warmer than hers, and she relished the warmth, and the feeling and some one grasping her hands. She laughed a little as he seemed to almost guess at his own age. But, Savannah was no one to be nosy or inconsiderate, instead she'd probably just say something funny or witty. "So old you forgot, huh? That's bad news for me though, I'm 19 which must mean I'm ancient! Also, I already have my drivers license."

She smiled a little laughing. Now that the strange man was gone, she wondered if he wanted to continue ice skating, or would they just part ways? Would they leave as acquaintances, or people promising to become better friends? She knew a little about him, just the basics. His name, which was always important, and his age, sorta. Savannah was dying to get her hands on a nice warm cup of hot chocolate, and to sit down somewhere warm. She wanted to ask him if he wanted to, but a strange feeling in the bottom of her chest stopped her. She didn't want to overwhelm the poor guy, after all, they had just met. But, she felt as if this friendship was definitely something to pursue. She moved her fingers around a little, rejoicing in the comfort his hands gave her.

Loch smiled, glad to be given a way out.

"That is most definitely it," he said, scrunching his face into a look that said Very Serious. "I've had more birthdays than the universe. That old."

He'd forgotten that there actually were students and teachers that old at this school, or probably that old. Loch wasn't immortal.

"I'm a little jealous..I've never learned how to drive. Parents didn't have a car, so we just sort of walked everywhere." He and his sister also had a mild iron allergy, so that sometimes made being in cars uncomfortable.

He rubbed her fingers between his, hoping to warm them as much as possible. His butt was sore from falling on it. "I've got to be honest, I think I've had enough of skating to last me a while."

He was smiling again. It was like his factory setting.

"And even though there's ice here, I feel like I need to go ice my ass down, and maybe get something to drink. Will I see you around?" he asked. "I mean, if you want to. It'd be nice to run into you sometime, maybe someplace that's less slippery, and maybe has food."

He was leaving the invitation open to her interpretation, with enough room that she could even dismiss him completely and he'd still keep face.

Savannah was glad that her fingers were now warmer. Savannah chuckled. That was a lot of birthdays! Savannah couldn't imagine walking everywhere, although she walked most of the time around the farm. But she also had the luxury of riding around too. The only things she ever rode was the bus to school, and her aunt of uncle's pick up truck to take them places. But that happened rarely.

Savannah smiled. She was sure that he was feeling sore, after those falls. It was good to do something like this with a total stranger and she nodded. "yes, I hope we meet again sometime." She gave a little wave, and skated to the lake's edge, took off her skates, and headed back to the Academy smiling. It was a good day, and something went right for once!
