She is fair skinned with naturally wavy, thick, black hair that falls to her mid-back and matching dark brown eyes (which come off black). Her features are delicate, slender, and feminine. Her eyes are naturally a little narrowed and tilted toward her temples with a set of full eyelashes that give her a cat-like impression. There is something undoubtingly powerful and stubborn about the way she carries herself, even while many of her gestures and actions are submissive in nature. Since her death, Shay has received three magical tattoos. They have no effect but magic can be felt through them. Spanning her entire back is a skeleton and tree hybrid. A skull and a rose, over the left side of her chest where her heart is located. An om drawn onto a lotus, over her belly button. Shay's usual style of clothing leans toward steampunk, gothic, or loli. She enjoys skirts and corsets, jackets, or hair accessories but not makeup. She usually wears combat boots and her favorite fashion of clothing is winter wear. Her motif includes roses, skulls, and Celtic symbols. Wears a rose gold Claddagh wedding ring. |
Personality
Shay is all contradictions, both magically and personality-wise. She comes off human, but there is very little about her mentality that is mortal. Death is theoretically different for her than it is most people.
Eroshay is bright and troubled, too focused on death and the strange. She has a particular soft spot for criminals and the mentally unstable.
A history of abandonment and abuse have left Shay sensitive to her place in people's hearts. She firmly believes love is conditional (despite what people say). With high self-esteem and low self-worth, Shay doesn't think she's worth much but that doesn't mean she'll take someone's cruelty for long before leaving. It's through sheer stubbornness that Eroshay has decided she won't let people break her again.
She struggles with emotional vulnerability and communication. When upset with someone, she has the tendency to either avoid them or annoy them; there is rarely anything in-between.
Shay has some difficulty with connecting to people. She can love them, understand them, and enjoy their company but still not feel complete or satisfied with them. This mixture of apathy and inner turmoil has led her to some self-destructive choices including sex, alcohol consumption, and other such dangerous ventures.

Actives
Soul Perception: Shay can create a temporary bond with a person through touch which gives her a glance into their mind. This has little to do with a person's magic and everything to do with what makes them who they are. She gets an understanding of how their emotions and mentality works, along with a few memories.For this magic to work, Shay has to be willing to open herself to the other person as well, giving them insight into her own emotions and mentality, along with a few strong memories. The person must be awake and lucid (no mentally/emotionally impairing effects). If someone is resistant to Shay creating this connection, the bonding is mostly ineffective, allowing her only a momentary glance into their psychology or allowing them to temporarily experience something from her end.
Shay can comprehend things most people couldn't when introduced to people's mental worlds (nightmares, dreams, etc.) or emotions (aura based magic, emotional manipulation magic, etc.) She can get an understanding of what it means to be someone no matter their species.
The Umbra Staff: An umbrella bound by Shay's magic (can only be used by her) and functions differently depending on whether it's closed or opened.
When folded, the umbrella's tip can be used as a spear that harms supernatural creatures as if they were human (meaning they must heal naturally from this wound and it ignores durable skin/scales). The umbrella is as light as a standard umbrella to Shay, but when striking someone with the blunt sides, it feels roughly as hard as a steel baseball bat. Only the umbrella's point ignores regenerative abilities and enhanced durability.
The umbra staff may be broken, but it will reform itself in a matter of twenty-four hours before resummoning somewhere near Shay.
By stabbing the tip of the umbrella into the ground while it's opened, people can get a glimpse into their limbo. Shay has the ability to visit limbo using the umbrella.
Limbo is the place between life and death. It's a land of pure magic that is ever-changing and based on one's perception of the world. It changes based on a person's beliefs, emotions, and memories.
When alone the umbrella heals itself. Minor tears will recover within minutes, but more significant damage can take around two hours. It pauses healing when people are around.
While the umbrella can be taken/stolen, it does have the habit of popping up around Shay randomly. She can't summon it. The umbrella prefers inconvenient locations to surface.
Passives
Death Whispering: Shay hears the voices of the dying and deceased. Unless directly told, she won't know why or how they're dying. She hears these voices in a 10-mile radius.Shay hears whispering around those who've killed. The more a person has killed, the more intense the whispering around them becomes. The whispers repeat whatever it was they last said or thought before being killed, this gives Shay an idea of whether someone was killed directly or indirectly. Shay cannot speak to the voices.
If Shay ever kills someone, their voice follows her around. This is "divine punishment." They will taunt her and remind her of the sin she's committed as well as comment on other sins she commits. The only exceptions to this rule are self-defense or when her reaper instincts lead her to kill someone (IE: Someone breaking divine rules or breaking the cycle in some way).
Hope Empowerment: Shay has the ability to give others confidence and inner strength/hope of their own when she is feeling hopeful. This happens automatically whenever Shay is feeling an influx of inner strength.
As a bonus to this ability, it's harder to break Shay mentally/emotionally.
Shay feels a wider array of emotions than humans can comprehend. She is capable of feeling conflicting emotions all at once.
Due to her compacity to feel more emotions than the average person, Shay can be caught up in all her feeling. Hatred and envy, in particular, are hard for her to stomach, and they both come and leave suddenly with no indication.
Mediumship: Shay is able to see and communicate with spirits, even when others can't. She cannot repel them, or send them away. Shay can't turn this ability off, and as such, she's a beacon to spirits or anything without a true physical form. She can't command ghosts in any way but she can touch them like they are physical beings even when they're intangible.
To spirits Shay glows and they move toward her like moths to a flame. This is true primarily of souls who are lost and can't speak to the people around them. Death magic is also attracted to her. If she's to stand between someone and their target, dark magic is more likely to cling to her, as if she had some gravitational pull to it.
Multiple Lives: Shay has a very mild form of immortality. She has seven lives (down to six now) before she dies forever. She can die as easily as any normal human.
When she dies and goes to limbo, Shay must face a series of tests to return to the physical realm. These tests usually involve vague fears of hers and can take anywhere from three days to months for her to complete. Once reborn she rises from the ground. Her old body remains in the world (assuming it wasn't completely destroyed) and her new body gains tattoos representing the trials she has gone through or will go through. People who are sensitive to magic or have the ability to see it will sense magic coming from these tattoos.
The body she returns in is identical to the one she was born with. Save the new tattoos and healed damage (including piercings etc.)
Reactive Magic: Shay's abilities are reactive and tend to create odd effects with most other abilities. Can you send spirits to their rightful place but have killed people? Congratulations, her death whispers ability is warped around you, making it difficult for her to tell if you've killed or not. Are you a literal Grim Reaper? Well, you make a constant buzzing noise to Shay, similar to an industrial light.
Common Magic Items
Aura Warning Bracelet: While not actually magical, Manta Carlos distributes customized bracelets for those with auras. Depending on the shape and color, people can tell at a glance the approximate range and nature of the aura of the wearer.Sex Swap Charm: While wearing this charm, the characters sex is swapped. They still look like themselves, and have a consistent other form that they'll take when wearing the charm. As a safety precaution, this charm also works as birth control for the one wearing it.
Weaknesses
Addictive: While Shay's magic is no longer fighting itself, there is still a level of chaos to it. A potency that should not be.To blood drinkers and others who like human flesh, Shay is especially tasty. There's a unique taste to her. Some might even say her blood and flesh is addictive.
Danger Magnet: Shay has the tendency to find herself in the company of less than reputable people and situations. People on the cusp of change are subconsciously more attracted to her (in the sense that they want to poke her or be around her). It's very common for Shay to stumble upon criminals, crime scenes, and other unsavory types. Shay is equally drawn to those who show signs of zealotry. She is drawn to unbalanced things that need righting, as well as people who are about to go through a great change in their life.
Dark Detection: People of the darker arts can also feel Shay's general area but not pinpoint exactly where she is.
Physically Weak: While Shay is no longer chronically ill, she will always be weaker than most people, even average humans. While no longer fragile enough to break from routine things like snowball fights, don't expect her to be lifting weights or winning any arm wrestles anytime soon.
Troublemaker: As a Reaper, troublemaking is in her blood, making it hard for her to push away devilish impulses and for her to avoid situations that will get her into trouble. Behaving herself is a concept that is more than a little difficult for Shay to understand.
History
○ Was born on Manta Carlos. At six years of age, Eroshay had been left on the stairs of the local orphanage. Soaked through with blood that was not her own, covered in dirt, and seemingly in shock.○ Later adopted by Klaus Rosales, the leader of the Rosales gang. When he was recalled to Hell, she was left fending for her many siblings.
○ Angelo Genovese, a police sergeant, offered to adopt Shay and all her siblings. After a long debate, Shay agreed.
Resources
Shay is a full-time college student who works as a simple clerk. Between her and her husband, Fitz, they don't have a lot of spare income. Most of it comes from Shay's inheritance from her old adoptive father's. Right now, things are a little tight for them.

○ Shay's scent is of flowers, light death, and magic. The magic scent itself is an odd combination of life, death, and intense pure magic. The magic that clings to her feels potent but untapped. The magic around her feels alive.
