Death by Heat Wave

It was way, way too hot. Or at least, that's what Skittles thought. It was most probably because she couldn't gather enough bravery to go swimming. Which was why she had decided to take her battery operated fan to the top of the building and die in peace there.

She was draped under a random ledge in an attempt to have shade, but when the sun managed to creep into her hollow, she decided it was time to move once more.

She sat up abruptly, only to whack her head on said ledge. She groaned as she rolled out from underneath the ledge, and sat up dully. She was vaguely aware that she's scraped her forehead, and healed herself quickly. "That wasn't fair." she growled, shaking her fist limply at the sun.

And then she flopped over onto her back again, dragging her fan closer to her. She was vaguely aware of a presence near by, but decided to try the baby animal routine. The whole 'If I can't see them, they can't see me.' thing. Which she accomplished by closing her eyes to the sun.

He enjoyed the occasional trip to the roof. It wasn't common to find someone else up there, and he could usually relax and think in privacy. He didn't notice Skittles up there and the sun caught the attention of his eyes before long. He really had to learn to stop staring at it, though, for he became temporarily blinded once again due to looking at it for too long. He ended up tripping and making quite a bit of noise due to this.

As usual, her strange tactics didn't work. Or rather, they did, but then the guy nearly killed himself. That's what it sounded like anyways.

The sound was enough to make Skittles sit up and eye the new comer warily. "Err... Are you okay?" she asked tentatively. She'd far rather just continue hiding, but she couldn't just sit by and let somebody be injured. She did, of course, immediately regret the decision, and resigned herself to making the wrong one, yet again.

She didn't get up though. She just remained where she was, sitting crosslegged. While she waited for a reply, her mind wandered to how the heck dogs kept cool with all that fur.

<Insert corny anime shot of his mangled body sprawled out on the floor, then jumping up perfectly fine after seeing someone else there. Blindness cured and all.>

"Yup. Perfectly fine, thank you." He turned around and yelled loudly with his hands over his mouth due to the pain, as if she wouldn't hear him. He then turned back around and smiled as if nothing ever happened. "I didn't think any other people came up here. Did you come here to think too?"

She'd been so deeply engrossed in the thought of how exactly dogs kept cool, that she was only jerked out of her thoughs by his poorly muffled yell, and only in time to hear him comment on the lack of people.

She twiddled her thumbs in an attempt to harness her nervous energy. "Err.. Yeah. I don't like people." the words were out of her mouth before she could stop them, and her eyes widened slightly, "I mean, not that I don't like you. Er.. Well I don't know you.. err.. I mean.. I like people in small doses. I'm really not antisocial!" she rambled, talking rather fast in an attempt to make her comment sound less bad. "Um.." she looked away. "Aw crap." she muttered.

The inner her was flailing and hollering at her idiocy, but outwardly, she was just blushing lightly and trying to pretend that nothing had happened. "Ehh..Do you?" she ventured uneasily, hoping to distract him from her horrid display of putting her foot in her mouth with a feeble question.

He became so confused at what she was saying that his eyes wandered back to the sun and began staring at it again. When she said "Do you?" he snapped out of it and turned back to her. Of course, his eyes were pretty screwed up at this point and he couldn't really see well. "Huh? Do I? Well.. I'm not so sure I'm ready to be married yet. I think we should just be friends." Wait... what?

She breathed a quiet sigh of relief when he seemed to have been distracted from her long speach, but what he said wasn't any better, and caused her to blush furiously. "Err..." she was momentarily struck speachless, and just stared at him.

Even though it was him who had said it, she felt rather like throwing herself off of the building and then disappearing into a deep dark hole. "Um..." she sounded very intelligent indeed, and fiddled with her fan. "Ehh... I meant, err... Do you come up here to think...But I just realized when you asked you said "too".." she glanced at him, and then looked away again. She felt horribly uncomfortable.

"Ehm...What's your name?" she questioned suddenly, cocking her head to the side. She wasn't going to offer her name first, but she would if forced to.

"Hmm... you appear to get embarrassed easily. Am I correct?" He walked up to her and knelt down to get a better look. "My eyes are still screwed up a little from the sun, I'm afraid. But I can most definitely sense your anxiety. Are you afraid of me?" He actually completely ignored her question about his name. In all honesty, he forgot.

Skittles was starting to think this guy was strange. What she sensed from him wasn't scary, and almost prompted her to open up, but he was just..weird. When he moved closer, she blushed again, stood up and put a few backward steps between them. "Um... Yeah.. You kinda are scaring me." she admited, trying very hard to not panic.

She absently nibbled on her pinky nail in another nervous habit. Being a girl from the country, she had a very large personal space bubble, and didn't take too kindly to people invading it. She berated herself, telling herself she should have acted more brave, but her lack of coming up with anything intelligent to say prevented her from doing so. She probably would have run, had he not been positioned between her and her precious fan. Well, that and had it not been deadly hot out.

"Hmm... not often someone like me scares someone. I mean with the outfit and all." He turned around for a second and showed his coat that had the cross on the back. "Then again, I suppose we've all heard those stories about the priests. What a shame." He shrugged.

"So are you always afraid of new people?" He walked up close to her again. He seemed to completely forget about everything that was just said. "I can't imagine being in a school like this while being so shy. But I suppose its kinda cute in a way." He walked right up to her and pressed his face up against hers. For a moment it seemed like he was going to kiss her, but he merely looked right into her eyes curiously. Not many people understood why he did this, but it actually allowed him to more accurately tell if someone was telling the truth or not.
