Joker is that kid in High School that puts up inappropriate meme flyers everywhere. There’s really no other way to put it. He’s become so desensitized with basic human decency and appropriate behavior that he dedicates his entire life to satire and an appreciation of the bizarre.
He has a keen interest on things that fall outside the norm, even mocking the norm itself, but this is because he is an outsider wanting to feel like he belongs. Despite talking a lot of shit about socially acceptable standards, he still alters his appearance to become desirable and will only be a rebel if it makes him look attractive.
Joker comes off as aloof, uncaring and seemingly with no respect for anything, and it might even be true most of the time, but once Joker sinks his teeth into something, whether it’s a hobby or a person, he gets really into it. He doesn’t waste time and effort in small things but rather dedicates them to things he thinks matters. He might fail classes several times in a row, but he’ll never, ever forget your birthday.
He’s a passionate man underneath his aloof demeanor but that could also lead to some problems. See, given his past and the way his modifications alter his body heat, Joker has developed a really bad temper problem. He teases people but doesn’t really appreciate being teased back and, sometimes, he takes it too personally and ends up violent and doing irrational things he will probably regret when he cools down. His friend, Digit, installed a non-regulated update, hence upgrading it to TORCH MOD: BETA v. 2 v. DIGIT.

This where subjects are installed their mods, observed 24/7 and practice their powers.

As a child, he was seemingly without passions and he only cared about hanging out with an intelligent, go-getter, green-eyed girl. He loved to listen to her and her wild dreams about living on the surface. He wanted to be with her forever until she got dragged into another facility when their time to get modifications came.
#91827364501, now “Torchâ€, proved to be incredibly talented when it came to using his powers. Practicing fire became his new favorite hobby and he became a sort of MVP at the Training department. He got an upgraded room and commodities unavailable to regular students. He met a cute girl, Gil, and started dating her. Life was good…
…Until the Green-eyed girl began whispering to his mind in his sleep. He would be constantly flashed with the image of her in a tank with wiring all over her body, and though she couldn’t speak, he felt the pain she was enduring and she would constantly send messages to him for help.
The telepathic connection soon became unbearable. He began snooping around the biodome, following her power signature in a half-dazed state, and encountered a BINARY MOD named Digit. BINARY MODs were living CPUs so they didn’t have the same training as him and the other combatant mods. Instead, they were supposed to regularly maintain the wiring and electricity.
Digit dragged him to a dark place and told him about the Green-eyed girl messing with the facility’s electricity with telepathy.
The messages became clearer and more elaborate. The Green-eyed girl began filling his nights with conspiracy theories about their superiors. She kept telling him that they didn’t have their interests in mind but he refused to believe her. He was treated well as an MVP in the biodome.
He met a guy, Ace, a BRUTE MOD who shared his opinions. They quickly became friends. He and Digit began vying for the guy’s affections while Torch climbed through the ranks with hard work and pure talent, but their High School drama was short-lived when things slowly began hitting the fan.
Gil died because of overheating. Chloe, an ILLUSI-MOD who acted as Torch’s mentor, disappeared mysteriously after her affair with a scientist. Ace lost his arm and they stubbornly refused to provide him prosthetics. The icing on the cake was, Green-eyes, now Lady, figured out what they were doing to her and told him that she was being used as a generator to power the biodome. Torch began seeing her point in the worst way possible.
He had a breakdown in the cafeteria and picked a fight with a radical biodome-supporter who also happened to be a BRUTE-MOD. It was a one-sided fight. He was immediately creamed and almost died himself, but the scientists brought him back to life with bones better than ever. But for some reason, he couldn’t find it in his heart to thank them.
When he went to sleep, he told Lady what he was feeling and she told him of her plans to start a coup.
She dug up information about this girl, Emily, who used to be widely beloved by the student body. Her disappearance was attributed to “hospitalizationâ€, but it had been five years since anyone saw her last. According to the whispers she’d heard, her body was buried underneath the men’s bathroom floorboards.

He rebranded himself as “Joker†and used Digit’s connections to spread posters with Emily’s picture on it with the words ‘WHERE’S EMILY?’ The scientists weren’t able to clean up the mess before sunrise. Pretty soon, everyone looked at the posters and wondered – where is Emily? The night before prom, there was a huge red paint on the lockers that said: EMILY IS COMING TO PROM!
Everyone was excited. They were hyped to see Emily again. After an hour in, with almost everybody inside the gymnasium, the lights flickered off and Joker wearing a mask descended from the ceiling with his prom date, the rotten skeleton of Emily. There was an uproar. Many guards attempted to pacify the situation but there were super powered people screaming and fighting everywhere.
While they were distracted, Digit hacked into the servers and downloaded everything in his hard drive, from student profiles to architecture and body modification schematics. He upgraded his friends’ and Joker's modifications before they planned their breakout with Lady.
Meanwhile, security was cracking down on whoever so blatantly ruined their reputation. They were beginning to torture the students that even vaguely resembled the man at prom. They had to act fast. Their modifications were upgraded, the students were unsettled, and the security was sloppy. Lady set the whole thing in motion when she started a riot among her peers that soon spread through the biodome like wildfire.
Lady, Ace, Digit, Coral and Joker headed for the exit but the submarines that would take them to the surface were unavailable. Instead of giving up or going back to the chaos and risk having them all killed, Lady used a telekinetic ball to bring them all up but she didn’t anticipate the extreme pressure of the water. She held them for as long as she could but, nearing the surface, she overheated and immediately died. The four of them were left to fend for themselves but Joker was catatonic because of the death of the love of his life.
They spent a few months doing odd jobs with their powers except for Joker, who was extremely silent and unapproachable as he mourned the death of Lady. Digit was the most helpful because he was a mechanic, and he used what little they earned to repair their mods as well as provide food and shelter. A few months later, they all received a letter for Starlight Academy. Ace and Digit refused to return to a school, but Joker wasn’t sure what to do with himself anymore so he decided to have a new life there – away from the terrible memories.
