Name : Paschalis de Santis
Age :
Birthday : May 5th
Gender : Male
Nationality : Italian Swiss
Category : Teacher / Staff / NPC
Appearance Description : Paschalis stands at a height of only five feet and has somewhat boyish looks but not enough for people to mistake him for a child. It probably has something to do with the expression on his face, which is constantly almost completely vacant, with just a trace of bored amusement. An impression that people get from him a lot is that he's a very serious person. He has short pale blue hair and black eyes.
Paschalis normally dresses in business casual wear. Sometimes he just wears the same thing for days in a row because he's too lazy to find anything else. He's not exactly a slob, just somebody who doesn't care too much about how he looks.
Often, people will see Paschalis either with a fire extinguisher or hanging around one...
Personality Description : Paschalis is lazy and probably already bored with you the moment you meet him. He doesn't really like people, especially the really emotional ones. That's what counselors are for, after all, so if anybody has a sob fest in front of him, he's probably just going to dump them at the infirmary and let somebody else deal with them. There is often a severe air of seriousness around him, which could be extremely off putting to some when combined with his cold mannerisms. At the same time, however, Paschalis acts like a perfect gentleman, albeit one who goes through all the actions mechanically.
Really, though, Paschalis does like a few people. He only hates most of them. Energetic ones in particular. But if Paschalis likes somebody -somehow, who knows why that would happen- he'll be pretty protective of them, even if that person doesn't really see it. His like of people also has nothing to do if people like him at all. He just doesn't care enough about how people feel about him. He doesn't express emotions very well and doesn't want to express emotions very well. If he doesn't like you, and he probably won't, it'll be pretty clear because he'll keep trying to brush you off. Even with people he likes, though, he'll still be pretty snarky and cold. Honestly, the only way to tell if he likes somebody or not is whether or not he goes out of his way to do something for that person without their asking.
He is blunt and quick to say what he thinks, though he sometimes doesn't speak loudly enough for others to hear because he just doesn't care enough to put that much effort in. If somebody takes offense to something he's said, more often than not, he'll simply stare at them and move on.
Base Power : Philosopher's Cabinet - The de Santis family has a certain pool of powers which have been passed through the family for generations. All mature members of the family are able to craft magical objects out of a specific material, though the degree of their skill and the amount and type of magic they are able to put into the objects greatly varies. Only rarely will any two living members be able to craft the same material. The favorable crafting in the family is normally passed down depending on who seems to be the most adequate inheritor. The power is partly based on learning but mostly based on affinity. This affinity can be transferred from one member of the family to another, in part or fully. Usually, the latter is only done towards death. Children will not necessarily have the same abilities as their parents from birth; that affinity also has to be passed down.
Paschalis in particular was born with the affinity to craft quartz, but gained the affinity to craft silver from his father. From his grandmother, he also gained an affinity for grass, which he accepted mostly because she was a nice old woman and he was sort of humoring her. In a way, he is kind of an inadequate successor to both of them because he was so annoyed at being bossed around by the family head -silver was a particularly desired skill and the man wanted it for his own son- that Paschalis went ahead and used up all of his magic on three masterworks so he can no longer craft anything anymore.
Theoretically, if he wanted to, he could undo the crafting he's already done and regain that ability. However, he made darn sure that all of the magic was so tied up that it would be a near impossible task. At this point, he doesn't even have enough magic in him to spark an affinity. Which is just the way he wants it. Unfortunately, there's nothing stopping anybody from picking up the final masterworks that he made and using their abilities. Also, there is nothing stopping anybody from simply breaking the masterworks so that nobody can use them. If that happens, then all of Paschalis's magic would still be tied up in the broken pieces.
Quartz Masterwork : Ahimsa - a surgical scalpel made of pale prasiolite, which is a mint green colored quartz. It is always very sharp but actually causes healing if it is used to cut somebody. It will only heal parts of the body that it is touching and works best when the blade is used to trace over wounds. To heal more internal injuries, stabbing would be required. Since the scalpel heals so little at a time, it is really not recommended for using on people who have serious injuries, including deep internal injuries. It does not replenish blood and also does not heal major nerve damage or any kind of brain damage. Its healing always leaves scarring. In addition, the blade is only an inch and a half long and magic in the scalpel is purely concentrated at that part. If the handle hits something delicate, it'll do real damage.
Silver Masterwork : Ran - a spool of silver thread, about a hundred meters in length. Anything that it is wrapped around is automatically cut when the thread is drawn tightly around it. If the thread is wrapped around living material, however, then it will cause first degree burns instead until it is loosened or cut. The thread can easily be snapped by tugging too strongly on it but people would have to also be mindful of their fingers since putting gloves on wouldn't help them handle it. Eventually, with enough uses and breaks, the thread will run out. The spool is made of granite, crafted by Paschalis's older brother so that the thread cannot not destroy it.
Grass Masterwork : Nazareth - a thimble made of woven grass, with no loose ends at all. The only thing it really does is make music. Depending on how it's blown on, it will produce different notes that sound as if they come from a harp. It is easily crush-able but as long as nobody really stomps it flat, it should be still good to use.

Biography : Paschalis was born into a very large family of magic users, with one of his father's second cousins being the family head. He was born the youngest of four children by his mother, a member of a prominent Italian business family, who was killed in a car accident when he was three years old. There is little that he remembers of her and sometimes can't recognize her in photographs. When his father remarried, Paschalis, for the most part, got along with his new stepmother, although the two never were especially close. The people in the family that he really developed close ties with were his father, his older brother, and his oldest half sister. His grandmother could have been counted in that, too.
From an early age, it was already clear what Paschalis's abilities were. Naturally talented with crafting, he drew the attention of most of the family, which he hated because of the amount of pressure that it put on him. Helping to shield him from that was his brother Durante, who also was getting a lot of pressure put on him for being the oldest in their part of the family. Though their personalities were opposites in some ways -Paschalis was lazy and Durante was hardworking- they managed to simply accept those parts of each other. Both brothers were even more united when their father passed down more magic to them -marble crafting to Durante and silver to Paschalis- and even though they didn't resent him specifically, they came to resent the fact that he had to bend to pressure and do it. For a while, too, the brothers weren't on speaking terms with their sister Tatania, as she was supposed to have inherited silver crafting until she had a falling out with their father.
As their family gained more members, Durante found himself pushed more to the background, to his relief. Paschalis, however, still remained in view of the family head, who was constantly criticizing his laziness and badgering him to pass on silver crafting to the man's heir. For the most part, Paschalis ignored him all the way up to university, when Olivia's affinity made itself clear. Largely regarded as an utterly useless power, his half sister suddenly used as a way to criticize her own mother and full siblings.
Disgusted that the hostility would shift to a nine year old, Paschalis, for once in his life, worked hard to silence those people. With Durante helping him, they essentially harassed everybody involved until they stopped talking publicly about "that useless girl and her mother." Even though their father disapproved of their methods, it won them their stepmother's gratitude and hero worship from their sister. It also was what convinced their grandmother to pass on her magic to them in her later years, although the splitting of an already relatively average affinity meant that neither of them could do too much with it. It was the thought that mattered, anyways.
As he began medical school, that was when Paschalis really began to take serious issue with the criticism from the family head. For one, it was completely harassment and borderline stalking behavior. For another, he just didn't have the time to deal with it anymore. Because of that, he made the decision to simply use up all of his magic making three masterworks. He told nobody but Durante, who disagreed with the decision but felt that Paschalis had the right to do whatever he wanted with his powers.
When everything was said and done, however, the criticism just came in stronger. Thoroughly annoyed, Paschalis began looking into places where he could move to escape the pressure of his family. What he found was Manta Carlos, which he promptly moved to as soon as he got his medical degree. Feeling just a little useless once he got there, though -there were plenty of people who had more healing magic than medical training, which made sense- he decided just to screw medicine and apply for a teaching position at Starlight Academy instead. Powers classes sounded like something he could handle so that's what he went for instead of something like biology or chemistry.
Additional Information : Paschalis is allergic to pretty much everything so he's on a very restricted diet and takes pills so his body doesn't freak out whenever he eats or touches something. Also, he really likes fire extinguishers as weapons. They're even more effective than guns, and they're totally legal, too. And everywhere.
Paschalis and Niccolò Belmonte are first cousins.
The abilities of Paschalis's family are as follows: Sabino crafts silver and marble, Durante crafts granite and marble, Tatania crafts iron, Priscilla crafts maple, Olivia crafts petals, Giotto crafts amber, and Isaia crafts cotton.
Paschalis has a high opinion of musicians.
