Anastasia had no powers to manage. There was nothing to learn. No skill to master. She simply returned to life, and the only way she could conceivably practice was by dying over and over again. So, unlike everything else, she would absolutely not be practicing her power.

She shook her head. "It makes sense that most would not be open about their powers. Especially newcomers to the islands. I imagine people who have lived here their whole lives would not be bothered, but we are both new, yes?" It made perfect sense to her, and she saw no reason to take offense. After all, she'd only just met Adelene, and she could hardly wish to pry into her secrets, even if Anastasia herself barely had any. Her parents had always taught her that being open with things that didn't truly matter made it easier to hide the things that did.

When prompted, she fished into her pocket to withdraw another neatly folded piece of paper - a schedule. "Advanced math to start, History, Literature, Computers, and then... an empty slot, although I am supposed to take another elective." She'd opted out of power classes for obvious reasons.

"Ah, I suppose. I guess I am still pretty new myself."

Adelene was relieved Anastasia wasn't taking it badly. If only she could, she'd explain why she couldn't tell anyone her powers. Although technically the two most important people to her here already knew a lot.

She stopped and went beside Anastasia as she grabbed her schedule and read it to her. Adelene tilted her head thoughtfully, humming softly, before reaching out a little. "Can I borrow your map? I want to see how it looks." It was less awkward to ask now. "We can go to the high school building first. It's always a good start to familiarize yourself with the places you'd go to often. I didn't really get to be toured around when I got here, but that's how I did it myself." She gave her another smile. She wanted Anastasia to smile again, too, she was more beautiful with her lips curved up.

Anastasia was fine with the secret, and she stopped when Adelene stopped, essentially huddling up to let her go over the schedule. She didn't like that she was a high schooler. She should have been done. Graduated. Moved on to... well, something, if not the military itself. Instead she had another year to go through, and then... then what? The military was not an option. There was no military on the Manta Carlos Islands, no base to speak of. Even if there had been, it still wouldn't be an option. People would be willing to accept civilians screwing up, but if she was shot, body bagged, and on her way home when she woke up again... well, the cat would be out of the bag, and she didn't want that. She didn't know exactly what would happen, but she was certain it would be bad. They would want to make use of her power, one way or another. Maybe it meant experiments, maybe it meant using her as a soldier.

None of it would be good, and despite Adelene's own smile, Anastasia only frowned. They were dark thoughts, and ones she'd be better ignoring.

"Here." Distracted as she was, she handed over the map just the same. Not too bad, but a few minor mistakes. That sort of thing happened in a school where doors could be sentient, and the building might occasionally be rebuilt due to damage. "You must have had a hard time learning everything about the island at once."

Adelene was a little concerned seeing Anastasia frown. The girl didn't seem to smile much, but a serious face was still different from one that reflected some bad thoughts. She was concerned, but she didn't want to pry.

She took the map to give it a good look, finally. The mistakes were pretty clear to her just with a glance, and Anastasia would catch her shaking her head at it. "Mm. New people will always get lost if the map's like this," she muttered, more to herself, before giving it back to Anastasia. Adelene relied on maps a lot, and she, too, wanted them to be a hundred percent accurate. Missing and misplaced doors might cause a new student to miss their class.

She pointed to the direction beyond the large building behind the fountain. That would be where the high school buildings were. "Let's start from the classrooms. So if ever we can't finish the tour today, at least you won't be having trouble finding the important places."

With that said, Adelene started to head to the direction she pointed. She walked really slow until Anastasia was beside her again. "If you wanna ask anything, just ask away, okay? I'll try my best to help."

Anastasia headed right after her as they made for the classrooms. With any luck, they would be ordered in a neat and organized fashion... but somehow she doubted it. The entire island was a very bizarre place, and she had no doubt that at least some teachers would probably have odd classrooms. The island hosted a whole variety of bizarre species, and it was foolish to assume they'd all be able to teach effectively in an ordinary human classroom. Maybe some needed a giant fish tank at the front. Maybe some taught better in a forest. Maybe some had to be underground. Who knew. Maybe Baba Yaga was a teacher, and they'd be taught in her chicken legged hut.

The thought caused the briefest of smiles, which lasted for only a moment before she became more serious, trying to consider good questions. Having nothing to ask was unlike her. Her parents had always taught her that asking good questions was better than asking none at all.

"What are the teachers like? Strict? Or are they relaxed?" So far the school itself seemed fairly relaxed, but she hadn't seen very much of it. The admissions office itself had been chaos, but a part of that could simply be the fact that it was the hub of new students.

"The teachers?"

The teachers were all fairly interesting people to Adelene. Anastasia's question also brought a smile to her lips, an amused one, as she tried to recall what the teachers she's met were like.

"Personality-wise, we can't really generalize what they're like," she said. "I know a few instructors who are... really serious about teaching, I know one will do anything to keep his students safe and comfortable, I know one who is... cool and level-headed with everything..." she snickered a little, being reminded of Mr. Watanabe who she admired and idolized a lot, "I also have a teacher who's always drunk, and he speaks in foreign language half the time, but inside his hard and low-quality shell, he's actually really good at the things he does..." That was Mr. Trinidad, "Also, there's... a... a few I can't help but dislike--" dislike was an understatement. She hated the flirty kind of teachers and it would be her pleasure to at least shoot bullets at them. "--but that's just me."

She took a moment to ponder through what she just said. So far, she didn't know if she really did answer Anastasia, but she supposed she could just keep on talking anyway, instead of having to suffer unnecessarily awkward silence.

"Capability-wise, I think they all have their own forte, strengths and weaknesses, but they're mostly great teachers. Some are strict, some aren't. It depends, really. And... I haven't really met everyone yet but it's not so difficult to pick up stories from busy hallways."

He was feeling hungry.

Lochlann was having a craving again, the kind that he couldn't sate no matter how he tried. It changed something in the way he walked, and a few girls turned their heads to watch him as he walked. He couldn't help but give them a wink, while the part of him that was a predator looked for an easy target.

His eyes scanned the area and then....there. She was the one.

Lochlann trailed towards her and then pounced--well, not quite pounched, but he came up behind Adelene and wrapped his arms around her from behind, giving her an unexpected hug and resting his chin on her shoulder, knowing full well that surprising her like this would probably end poorly.

"Hey Adds," he said, and then his eyes found....

....well hello there. Someone new.

"Who is your friend?"

It seemed like there was a rather large variety of teachers, although they all sounded a bit more casual than Anastasia would have liked. Anastasia liked order and discipline, and it didn't sound like she'd have very much luck with that. Well, maybe there would be one or two, but far from the majority.

"I am curious to see what they will all be like." She was indeed curious, although not terrible hopeful. She realized that most people would not care for the type of teaching that she wanted. She wanted military style discipline. She worked best under that. She did best when things were clear - when she knew what to do and who was in charge. She didn't want to fumble around in group projects with no chain of command.

There were people around (it was a school after all), and Anastasia almost didn't notice the boy approaching. About their age. Almost definitely a student. She assumed he was going to come right up and say hello, right up until the moment when he more or less grabbed Adelene. Anastasia didn't go red - she wasn't actually embarrassed, per say - but she was definitely taken aback by how blatant the show of affection was.

Boyfriend? Boyfriend.

She was more than capable of introducing herself though. "My name is Anastasia Mikhailovna Usenko. Adelene was just giving me a tour, since I am new." Her accent was obvious, and she made no attempt to hide it.

The moment she sensed Lochlann's touch, however, she's already had her elbow making contact with his gut. With a gasp, she turned around, glaring at the said man. He knew it the most that Adelene shouldn't be surprised like that.

What always made things worse was that she would feel really bad about it. "Loch what the hell you shouldn't surprise me like that now look at what you made me do--" she paused, as Anastasia's voice and beautiful accent sliced it's way through her own startled one.
She sighed, hoping to slow her heartbeat down, before composing herself again and putting back her smile.

"It's as she said." She turned to Anastasia, gesturing towards Lochlann as she then introduced him. This was unexpected, but not doing so could be a little weird and awkward. "And, Anastasia, this is Lochlann... my, uh, best friend. I'm sorry about that just now, he's really weird." As she said "weird," she gave Lochlann a quick glare, but she immediately turned away and the look on her face also disappeared easily.

...It took a few more seconds for her to realize that she was with two really tall people now.

Lochlann's grin didn't falter even when her elbow knocked the breath from him and caused him to exhale heavily into her shoulder. He withdrew with a breathless laugh.

He responded to her glare with an even wider smile. It was the well practiced exchange between close friends.

"She says I'm weird like she's not," Lochlann tsked, shaking his head. "Poor Anastasia, you don't even know the half of it."

He eyed Anastasia unabashed while he took in her features, assessing her. She was taller than Addy, but still not as tall as he was, and there was something about her that made him hungry.

He turned up the wattage on his smile.

"Addy is giving you a tour? Addy, you better not have shown her all the best places to eat, or I won't have any leverage if I ask Miss Usenko here to dinner."

It was probably a bold statement, but he said it with such nonchalance that it might be hard to judge his intentions. He looked like he could turn serious or burst into laughter at any moment.

If he was being honest, Lochlann wasn't sure what his intentions were, either.
