That was... a lot of money. For a moment, Cass let herself entertain the idea of being nauseatingly rich; never waitressing again was a tantalising notion, as was travelling to Greece to see the ancient sites her father had been so enamoured of, hell - travelling all over the world to see every significant ruin and artefact that an archaeologist's child could dream of. She could even have her art exhibited. She could buy her own art gallery just to do it.
When Fordren contacted her, projecting his thoughts easily over the distance, she frowned briefly and scanned - there was no better word for it - for his location. He was coming closer, an approaching glow in the web that linked them. Oh, good. He'd noticed the magic trick with the link and now he was going to get her killed. It's nothing I can't handle, she thought, her thoughts showing more emotion - currently, anxious anger - than her spoken voice would have. I'm serious, Pink Ranger, back off.
Then the guy's hands were on her shoulders, and Cass sharply returned to reality. Concentrating, she relaxed her muscles by briefly tensing them and letting the stress slide away like she did when meditating. Her only priority right now was to get out of this alive, and that meant being complacent and not punching the guy who kept invading her personal space.
"Deal." At some point he'd be occupied doing something else, and she could use her ability against him. She'd much rather not have to smash someone's brain apart again, but clearly wanting no part in this equated to death, so... "I can lead you to the school. I'm guessing you don't need my help fighting, which is just as well 'cause I suck at it." That was true enough. She was okay at destroying people, though.
Turning, she began to lead an assassin towards a bunch of kids, and ruthlessly squished any wimpy morality that protested. "My name's Cass. You have a codename or something?"
