Delivered around Christmas. A medium sized package, wrapped in old, high quality paper that smells of ink and ancient magic. It hums lightly when held, shiver inducing. Inside is a hardbound journal, handwritten, on the subject of Eldritch. It's unique. Also attached is a letter with spidery writing.
My dearest friend,
I had a difficult time digging this up, but I'd heard whispers of it existing, and I thought you might be able to do more with it than I would. It's better than leaving it to collect dust, another lost and under appreciated gem from my family's rich history of dark magic.
In recent years, it's been better to move towards the light and neutral subjects, in order to keep a good image- and not have your home looted by nosy government officials. It isn't their right to take our heritage, or anyone to attempt to water us down. Magic is magic, it has no morality, it demands to be experienced and explored.
The golden age of magic my ancestors experienced has mostly faded, but I'm not about to let all they accomplished within that die. I will keep working with my own passions, as well as share them with those similar, those who can help keep this alive.
On another subject, thank you for your gift, she is settling in wonderfully. My brother has made no end of complaints, and I think she likes it here very much. It makes me happy to see her happy. I think we have bonded, as when I see her in the morning, sitting at the end of my bed (with no normal way of getting into my locked and warded room), I feel warm and fuzzy inside. She likes to watch while I work on projects and read. Sometimes I leave books open for her, and I think she may take after us in more ways than being cursed.
I'd like to name her, but I thought I'd ask you for your thoughts first. Sophia is rather ordinary, but it came to me nonetheless, as did Belle. If you have anything you think might be better, I'd be glad to consider it.
I shall wrap this letter up before I add more length, and end it by saying that I might just take you up on that offer. Why, I may even text.
I'd say to enjoy your holidays by curling up with a good book or ritual, but you don't need an excuse or special occasion to treat yourself to such things. Nonetheless, I hope your winter is pleasant. I also hope, as always, to see you again soon.
Yours, Valentine Crowther
