Tadashi fidgeted with his gloves a bit but offered Ezra a weak smile of his own, stepping even closer so they could hear each other over the sound of the music and other people in the room. "Rafael wanted to make sure I was dressed properly. I even had to comb my hair," he wrinkled his nose in annoyance. But here he was, and Ezra looked like they had been really preparing for this.

"Um, i'm kind of mostly here because you wanted to come. And my sisters probably would have dragged me here either way. But i'd like to do... what you want to do Ezra. I'm ok with dancing if you want although..." his gaze drifted across some of the more enthusiastic couples. "There sure is a lot going on in here."

Finally Tadashi stepped forward again and rested a gloved hand on Ezra's shoulder. "You know you look nice all dressed up too"

Katie

Katie just grinned as Vespa came in for a second kiss. After all, if this really was a date, then there shouldn't be a problem. You were supposed to kiss on dates, right?

Closing her eyes and pressing her lips against Vespas, Katie had to resit the urge to try to deepen the kiss, after all, there were other people around, and Katie didn't want to risk getting in trouble because they had gone too far.

Ezra looked to Tadashi as the boy rested his hand on their shoulder, then looked out to the people in the crowd dancing. They noticed that a few couples were engaging in romantic gestures and it was... odd. The dance was about socializing, right? Or was this a form of socialization that was deemed acceptable for a high school setting?

"I would like to dance with you, Tadashi. At least for one song." They turned, reaching up to their shoulder to take Tadashi's hand in theirs. "Would a slower dance be acceptable? I know next to nothing about modern dance styles for our age group. But I would also understand if it was too... forward of me to ask." They seemed to ponder on the word for a moment, then looked back at the bakeneko.

"Oh, and... thank you for the compliment. You are very kind and it is very appreciated."

Tadashi looked back at Ezra and tried not to pay too much more attention to all the couples being romantic. That was a surefire path to scaring himself away from this dance. He flinched slightly as his hand was taken but he didn't pull his gloved hand from Ezra's.

Instead he paused to think and then slowly nod. "I think a dance would be ok. I want you to be happy Ezra. I... don't know that much more than you do."

He shrugged and then forced a small smile onto his face.

Ezra gave a nod in response, slowly leading Tadashi toward the dance floor. They didn't want to go too far in; always make sure you had an avenue of escape. At least, that's what Asteria had told them. Although that pertained to a high end function that had a chance of being raided or attacked, rather than a high school dance. Once at a satisfactory position on the dance floor, they assumed a formal dance position that would let Tadashi lead and Ezra could easily follow. Ezra could have led the dance but they didn't want their friend to be too uncomfortable and could easily pull away if he felt uncomfortable.

"Tadashi." Ezra stated, giving the boy a look of almost disappointment with their brows furrowing. "I appreciate that you want me to be happy but I would prefer that you also look out for your own happiness. I want this to be a fun outing for the both of us, not just me. Let us enjoy a dance together and then you can see what feels comfortable after. Besides, I am already happy. You came out to the dance with me despite the obvious discomfort you feel about this sort of gathering. It shows that you care a great deal and I should be... appreciative of your efforts."

Not going too far in was a-ok for Tadashi too. He didn't expect a raid or anything at a school dance but he did feel on edge. He frowned at the disapproval from Ezra though. It really hurt to think that he was making it less fun for his friend.

"No, no, I'm here to have fun too. Promise. It's not your or my fault that I feel a little weird," he hurried to explain as they set up to dance together. He was certainly no expert in dancing but... well, he's learned enough to not step on toes. At least not the literal ones.

"Really, I'm fine. I've uh, heard thinking to much can trip you up. So lets try to just do this dance thing and see how it goes, ok?" He gave Ezra a slight smile and began to hesitantly start leading them.

Ezra nodded, following Tadashi's lead with as proper form as they could muster. The bakeneko's form was alright but seemed a little off? Maybe this wasn't a common thing for him to do so he was unsure? Or perhaps it was whatever weird feeling Tadashi was having. Ezra watched the boy in front of him with an unblinking gaze, shifting appropriately as they followed the rhythm.

"Alright, we will continue to dance without 'overthinking', as you say. But I want you to tell me if you are still not feeling well after. We can go for a walk around the area after if you need to clear your head. Your well being is important, too." They gave a small smile, stepping in slightly to make it easier for their dance. "And the dancing is nice. You have been taught, correct? Or is this your first time dancing in this setting?"

Tadashi tried to keep his focus confined to the little bubble they occupied on the dance floor. All footsteps and careful movements and... ok, so the unblinking eyes were a little unsettling. But Tadashi tried not to let it bother him too much.

"I was taught some, but I don't really dance that often. I don't even really like how fancy the Del Bosque family parties can be- but you can't tell them that. They've been so nice to me." He answered and tried to add in a quick request, not sure how well Ezra understood that kind of discretion.

"Um Ezra," he whispered. "You're kind of staring at me without blinking."

Ezra tilted their head, realizing that they had, in fact, been maintaining their gaze on Tadashi for what was probably an inappropriate amount of time. They continued to sway along with the song but proceed to blink a few times. "Apologies, Tadashi. My thoughts were elsewhere for a moment. But I promise I will not tell your family about your dislike of their celebrations." They nod, eyes scanning the room again. It really was strange how many couples were so intimately close. They couldn't remember any of the previous events they went to where the attendees would dance so close or even initiate romantic actions with one another. Perhaps the casual nature of the event allowed such intimacies without judgment?

"I will admit that the idea of dancing with you more would be enjoyable. However, I do believe the song is coming to an end soon, though, so we can step away now. Are you comfortable lingering around the ballroom more? Or would a breath of fresh air be preferred?"

Tadashi nodded with a bit of relief. It felt weird to have it said aloud though- his family. He had an actual family. Or rather two families really. His sisters and the Del Bosques. Between their little bit of chatting and the distraction of his nerves Tadashi barely realized the song had played through nearly to the end.

"Um, actually. Do you mind if we try one more song? Then we can go get some snacks. I just... kind of forgot to just enjoy the dancing." He turned his focus downward, embarrassment causing him to have trouble making eye contact with Ezra for the moment. "It's not your fault though- it's all me being weird."
