Gabe laughed at Yuki's bad joke before cycling over the different characters and selecting Boo. "Well, you don't have a ghost of a chance. Or... something. I'm not the best at puns." He picked up his controller again, eyes focused on the screen. Okay, he was gonna take this seriously. He wouldn't push for any physical affection after this. Gabe knew he had messed up a little, sure, but Yuki did say the loser had to kiss the winner so...

Was he totally in the wrong?

He wasn't right, that's for sure. They had said they were going to be doing a sleepover for friends. That was the plan. But it was proving to be much harder than he thought. They were dating and Gabe enjoyed the closeness the two got to share. It was a nice feeling that he wanted more of. That was the problem, though. He shouldn't be pushing so hard for Yuki to give the affection he wanted. The other boy was new to relationships (although Gabe didn't have that much more experience) and expecting Yuki to be open with himself wasn't something the plant user was going to force.

"Boooo," Yuki teased, knowing full well it was cheap humour. He had no shame though, and decided to sit on the floor with a goblin grin as he prepared to wipe the floor with Gabe. "That was horrifying. I think I'm MORTified," he laughed again. So the pun was a bit of a stretch. It would do. Plus he got to see Gabe's more dorky side. It was nice. As the game started, he felt the tension in his forehead begin to ebb away as he skipped through the instructions. He was sure Gabe knew the basics of Mario Party, considering he was able to tell it was a game that pretty much ruined friendships. Or partnerships. Either or.

As the game went on, Yuki found himself slowly losing his winning streak. He started to panic during the games, his competitive nature egging him on to do more and win more and become the final victor, but alas... He lost the party. He groaned at Gabe's triumphant look and sighed, the yawn escaping his lips before he could suppress it.

"Oh... I suppose I'm getting tired. Would it be alright for me to, um, head to bed? Should we..." He paused, cheeks flushing as he realised there wasn't really any better way to put it. "Should we, um, head to bed together?" Of course he was going to brush his teeth and wash his face, but he had already had his daily bath. There wasn't much to do otherwise. Would they really sleep in the same room? But then again, there was nothing wrong with two male friends sleeping in the same room. Society's view would mark it as very normal, even at their age... so maybe it was fine.

Gabe couldn't help but laugh at Yuki's terrible humor. It was endearing to see his partner acting so silly. It was a nice shift from the usual stress that lingered around parts of their relationship. He watched Yuki skip through the instructions and introductions. It made sense, though. Both of them knew how Mario Party worked. Play mini games, win coins, buy stars, screw over your fellow players and be number one. Easy enough.

And then the game changed.

Yuki was getting sloppy. His eagerness to beat Gabe seemed to be backfiring and, combining that with a few other moments that worked out greatly in Gabe's favor, Yuki couldn't catch up. It was Gabe's victory. He gave a little fist pump and grinned at the other boy but faltered slightly at the yawn. It would make sense that Yuki's tired. A lot had happened today, after all. Gabe gave Yuki a small smile at the mention of going to bed, but felt his cheeks warm at going to bed together.

What did that mean!? Did Yuki want to share the bed? That was... unexpected. And it was a bit strange, considering that the white-haired boy had been pulling away from physical affection. Was Gabe reading too much into this? He probably was. He'd figured it out when they got to the room. "Sure, Yuki. We can get everything set up and chill in my room till we're both exhausted. If you need to use the bathroom to brush up and everything, you can go first. It takes me a bit because of these stupid things." He opened his mouth and tapped his teeth a few times, careful not to touch the pointed ends.

Yuki smiled, nodding before he took the joycon from Gabe and docked both the controllers - ready for the next morning's antics. Surely he wouldn't have to leave straightaway, right? Sleepovers weren't a sleep over then leave first thing in the morning kind of deal, he was pretty sure. His mind drifted back to his days at Alderidge, and the midnight snacks he'd had with...

"The ice cream sandwiches!" Yuki gasped, rushing over to his bag and practically tearing into it with no remorse. He gave a great big sigh as he took them out to see that they were unmelted, and that he'd definitely chosen right to put plenty of dry ice in his bag. He couldn't help but wonder if it had been a bad idea in some ways, though. He couldn't even properly make out its contents with all the smoke that was swirling around in there. It would probably be fine. He just hoped Gabe didn't get concerned over it. "They're fine..." He said, taking the packs out. Playing games so fervently did make one hungry, after all.

He handed one to Gabe with a grin, having four in total. Two cookie dough, two neapolitan. He opted for the neapolitans first. "Here. It's time for a late-night snack! These are really good." He'd treated himself to one on his first day on the island, and that's how he knew this brand was the best. He had some Ben and Jerry's still waiting in his bag, though. It was cold enough in there, but Yuki supposed the 'wiches would be better off in Gabe's freezer. Gabe did had a freezer, right? It was the kind of thing everyone had. "We can eat them now so we don't have to worry about brushing our teeth later," he said as he bit into it and gave a noise of pure delight as his face scrunched up and arms shook a bit in happiness.

An evening of games with his new best friend and junk food as a rare treat. Could life be better?

Gabe tensed up at Yuki's exclamation, very confused at his outburst. Ice cream sandwiches? What ice cream sandwiches? He furrowed his brow before watching his partner dig through his bag haphazardly for something before pulling out actual ice cream sandwiches. Was Yuki just hanging onto these the whole time? Why didn't he mention having them sooner?! They could have kept them in the freezer so they would have stayed cold. Although seeing the cold, thick wisps of fog emanating from the bag, apparently the sandwiches were still chilled.

When Yuki handed off one of the sandwiches, Gabe couldn't help but smile. Of course Yuki'd want a sweet treat to end the night. It was very cute to see his partner's excitement at the treat and his reaction to the bite. He took a bite of his own sandwich, enjoying the neapolitan flavors on his tongue. Can't go wrong with a classic mix, that's for sure. Carefully biting through, Gabe would finish the sandwich with slow, careful bites in order to not get brain freeze.

"I can't believe you were hiding these treats the whole time. They're so good." Gabe hummed, unable to resist smiling at the tastes in his mouth. "But did you want to sleep right away after we get comfortable? Or did you want to talk... or something? I don't really know what you do at sleepovers beyond video games and movies." He laughed.

"Well...we used to have some midnight snacks back at Alderidge. Me and my friends would meet in their room to just talk about random things and eat crisps and sweets. But this is already our midnight snack. Kind of." Yuki smiled at the memory. It was one of the things that had remained blissfully untainted, more or less. What had happened afterwards was a whole other issue.

"So after we brush teeth and whatever, we can go to bed. And um, maybe we can read some of your books? I saw some interesting ones..." He laughed, remembering all the trashy-sounding novels he'd seen on the shelves. So Gabe was into that, huh. A sappy soppy romantic. He was definitely going to get an earful for it later. He finished his sandwich and threw the wrapper away, taking a drink from his water bottle before announcing that he was heading to the bathroom.

Face washed, teeth brushed, he smiled at himself in the mirror. He still couldn't believe it, really. He couldn't believe that Gabe was being this good to him. He still didn't get why, but maybe... maybe that was alright. Maybe it wasn't a problem. He sat down in Gabe's room and began to poke around a little, now that the ice had been broken and he was comfortable.

Ooh, that was a dangerous idea.

Gabe knew what his book collection was like. Having lost the small collection he had when Halcyon was destroyed, it had been a small pleasure in life to build up a new library of romance novels. Manta Carlos also had rather unique novels as the authors also catered to a multitude of supernatural creatures both big and small. Finding all of the different novels had been a treat and being able to see the difference romances had always made Gabriel's heart feel fuzzy with joy.

But he also knew of the more... passionate scenes that lay within some of the books. Scenes that might make your new boyfriend/partner fluster. Or maybe even creep him out a little. So there was some concern. As long as he knew what book Yuki wanted to read, it shouldn't be too big of a deal to read together, right? He waited for Yuki to return from the bathroom before he entered himself, carefully scrubbing each tooth and washing his face thoroughly before returning to the room.

"If you want to, you can read some? I don't think you'd like a lot of them, though." Gabe said quietly, cheeks warming. He shut the door to the bedroom, moving with quiet steps to his bed before pulling the covers away and sliding into it. He wasn't ready to lay down yet, though. He moved a few pillows over to the side and scooted closer to one side. He looked to Yuki and felt his voice catch in his throat. The idea of being curled up with someone wasn't new to Gabe; he had shared a bed with Diego before back in Halcyon during the rougher times. But this was different. This wasn't just two close friends; Yuki and Gabe were dating. And Yuki had been insistent on keeping it more platonic for tonight.

After pondering for what felt like an eternity, Gabe felt his voice quietly slip out into the room. "...did you want to sit up here to read, Yuki? Or maybe even just... cuddle? No, wait. That's too forward. Ignore that. You didn't hear me say that." He began to babble before grabbing one of the pillows and hiding his face in it laughing.

Yuki stared at the book, and it stared back at him.
Honestly, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

The silver tie, knotted impeccably and patterned with small spikes, the title's four words, printed with a colour change in the word 'grey' and the author's name: EL James. What. On. Earth was Gabe doing with this book?! He felt his opinion of Gabe fall physically, like actually physically fall along with the book as it tumbled off the shelf. He stared at it with morbid fascination. Yuki had never expected to find Fifty Shades of Grey in his partner's room. But then again he hadn't expected the other novels to be in there either. Did that mean that most of them were harlequin?! The boy would have to take this minefield of literature very carefully. He didn't really want his mental image of his partner to be ruined - Gabriel was almost perfect, and Yuki refused to believe otherwise. He put the book away carefully, as though it were contaminated with something.

He was glad to see Gabe come in, smiling at his friend's face and internally screaming at how cute he was when he was all embarrassed. Seemed like he knew about the harlequins. So he did read them. Well, Yuki supposed he couldn't judge. He knew if he came out to Gabe about his otome games, he might get a raised eyebrow or two. Gabe's voice cut through his thoughts, suggesting something kind of crazy but...really nice.

His body moved of its own accord, really, settling onto the side of Gabe's bed and ignoring the mattress that had been laid out for him. "If you want, I can. I'd be, um, happy to." He replied softly. The idea was exciting. Platonic cuddling.

Gabe felt the bed shift and his body tensed in surprise.

Yuki... wanted to cuddle? Like, was genuinely okay with it? He looked up to see his partner sitting on his bed with that faint smile that made his heart pound. With an audible swallow, he sat up properly and shifted to face Yuki properly. This had to be a dream. He didn't think Yuki would actually go for it. On the other hand, he didn't think he'd actually admit it out loud, either.

"...really? I, um... didn't think you'd be open to the idea... But I'm happy you said yes! I mean..." He trailed off, deciding not to keep babbling like a nervous idiot. He shifted back under the covers and held them open for Yuki to slide into as well, but paused and let his hand fall back down onto the bed. "I... realize you might not want under the covers. Sorry. I just... run cold so I'm getting curled up under here." He laughed.

Yuki felt secondhand embarrassment from Gabe's awkward word vomit. He cringed a little, but smiled too. The expression on his face probably looked like pity.

"That's um...fine. I can...go under the covers too. It's totally platonic. I saw it in an anime once." He giggled. It was true - he had seen it. Sure, the characters had been a bit younger than him and Gabe, but it was probably fine. Plus the idea of curling up under the blankets with Gabe was enticing. Warmth. Companionship. Intimacy. And all without the possibility of temptation.

Gabe was cute, anyway. The kind of cute that made Yuki want to hug him and not let go. The kind of cute that made Yuki want to squish his cheeks or rub their cheeks together or muss his crazy hair up with his hand. Because that hair was nice and long, and Yuki wanted in. So he crawled under the blankets, albeit a little hesitantly.

"If you want me to get out, I can. If you want me to go back to my bed, I can do that too. Just...tell me what you want, and I can do it." He whispered.
