Was it odd to have a sleepover with a friend at the age of sixteen?

Maybe. Did Gabe care? Absolutely not. He hadn't had a friend spend the night in what felt like an eternity, but add in the fact that it was his boyfr- no, partner, Yuki? It was going to be a very exciting night. I mean, it was the same as any other sleepover, right? Just two friends, hanging out, eating pizza and playing video games until the early hours of the morning... The chance of cuddling close, maybe a brief kiss good night...

Gabe messed up. Gabe messed up bad.

Well, it was too late now. He knew Yuki would be getting dropped off soon and then the hangout would begin. Gabe also knew his mother would be coming home later in the evening, so it wasn't like the two of them would be totally alone. That would have been a whole other can of worms. But for now, things were simple. Hang out, play some games, and just... have fun. Lord knows the two of them could use it. He glanced to the clock for what felt like the umpteenth time, the digital numbers reading 5:48. He glanced to the door from the couch again, waiting for the knock of his friend and partner so the night could begin.

Yuki combed his hair for the umpteenth time in the car, earning him a sigh and a glance in the rearview mirror from Ace.

"Young Ma-- Yuki, don't you think things will be fine as it is? He's just your friend. It's not like he's going to kick you out for having a single strand of hair out of place." The concerned wereleopard advised.

"You might be right, but... It just gives me something to do. This is the first sleepover I've ever been to, apart from the ones at Yato's. And you know how those went..." The boy shifted uncomfortably in his seat. It was never easy talking about Yato, but so many of Yuki's firsts had been tainted by him. The thought still made him shiver, memories fresh enough to sting... He looked out the window, watching the streets go by. He was trying hard not to live in the past, especially after the whole ceremony to say farewell to his old self.

Ace simply nodded in response; a silent acknowledgement of their shared understanding. Yuki had opened up to Ace and Mahalia, but not to his parents. It made sense, in a way, considering the young man spent a lot more time around the two compared to his own parents. The boy took the time to check through everything once more in his head - pyjamas, snacks, a pillow, clothes, toothbrush and toothpaste...and finally games. Good. He'd packed everything.

Yuki pulled his small suitcase behind him, Ace accompanying him in the lift as he keyed in the floor that corresponded to Gabe's apartment number. He was excited, but...nervous. He knocked on Gabe's door, unsure on who would answer. What if it was one of Gabe's parents? Or a sibling? How would he act? Gabe hadn't told his family yet, right? What if they didn't know Yuki was coming over? What if they didn't know who Yuki was? What if they thought Yuki was an intruder? The boy felt the bubble of panic begin to build, his breathing becoming unstable before a hand on his shoulder snapped him out of it. He turned, looking at Ace who shook his head and smiled, giving the boy a thumbs up.

Yuki nodded, and gulped. Things would be fine.

Right?

When Gabe heard the knocking at the door, he nearly fell off the couch in surprise. He was definitely trying to not be nervous, but now that Yuki was actually here? Welp, his heartbeat was ringing in his ears and he carefully stepped over to open the door and face everything head-on. He was, however, surprised to see not Yuki, but Yuki's chauffeur... Ace? Was that his name? He couldn't remember.

"Hey Yuki! And... Ace?" Gabe gave a small wave, suddenly feeling very oddly dressed despite being in comfortable clothing and had no intention of going out. He was dressed in a long sleeved dark green shirt and gray plaid pajama bottoms. His usual beanie was gone, but he was clad in thick green socks with different color roses covering random spots. His ears were red, but he couldn't help but grin in excitement. It had felt like it had been so long since he had had a friend over, not since Diego.

He stepped aside, dramatically waving to allow Yuki to step inside with his bag. "Please, step into my humble home." He briefly looked to Ace. "And do you need anything? Water? Milk? A moment to warm up before braving the cold?"

Yuki blinked, surprised to see Gabe already in roomwear. Perhaps... perhaps Yuki had made a mistake in dressing up. He looked up and down at Gabe, trying hard to ignore the rosy pink in his cheeks before Ace figured it out. Although knowing Ace and Mahalia, it wouldn't be long before they knew - whether Yuki decided to tell them or otherwise. For now, though? Yuki enjoyed just...being himself. Not being labelled for anything. Although Gabe was making that very difficult, because he looked cute. Very cute. And cuddly. And Yuki already wanted to throw his arms around him and just laugh and relax and...not worry. About anything. And Gabe's lack of beanie to reveal fluffy hair made resisting that urge very difficult.

Yuki paused in the doorway and gave Ace a quick nod without looking at him, for fear of his blush being made evident. Behind Yuki, Ace smiled to himself, glad that the young master was finally opening up to other islanders properly. (At least, islanders apart from himself and Mahalia.) With that, Yuki proceeded into the apartment with his suitcase and started looking around. It was hot in here. He decided that changing into his pyjamas would be something more for sooner rather than later. Because being a sweaty mess when he finally did bump into Gabe's family would not be fun.

Ace blinked, snapping out of his loco parentis mental teasing of the young master. His eyes widened a bit, since people didn't normally pay attention to his presence or address him so openly. Well, this was interesting. He'd refuse, though. "I'll be fine, thank you. If you'll excuse me." He said with a bow, dismissing himself. Well, well, well... it seemed like the young master had found himself a good partner. He'd definitely be discussing this with Mahalia later, over one of their regular late-night chats. Perhaps before their weekly meeting with the young master's parents.

Yuki managed a quick "bye!" to Ace before he couldn't hold it in anymore and threw his arms around Gabe, ruffling his hair and giggling. This was so fun! It was so exciting! And the night hadn't even begun! Finally letting go after a few moments of silly banter, he smoothed down his hair and jumper, hoping his shirt collar hadn't been creased too much. Once again, he definitely had to change his clothes sooner rather than later, since Gabe was already in sleepwear. Taking off his shoes and putting on a pair of room slippers, Yuki smiled.

"Hey. How do I look?" He grinned, spreading his arms wide so Gabe could inspect his outfit.

The moment Ace closed the door and absconded into the night, Gabe felt himself relax immensely. He was glad the caretaker was leaving; the whole night was about just the two of them hanging out. Although he knew his mom would be home later, she would likely say hello, chat for a bit, and go to bed from a long day. So this was a prime hangout opportunity without any stress attached.

His relief was thrown, however, when Yuki threw his arms around him and began ruffling his hair. Despite the blush that seemed to want his ears to burst into flame, Gabe couldn't help but laugh and wrap his arms around Yuki's waist to return the embrace. Seeing how excited his partner was for tonight was enough to make up for such a slow day at work. But now, Gabe had a choice to make. Yuki wanted an opinion on his outfit. It was very... preppy. Preppy, but very much on-brand for Yuki's usual attire.

"Well, that's difficult to say. As your friend, I would say that it is a wonderful outfit for any outing and is very much you." He hummed, moving closer and slowly wrapping a hand around Yuki to hug him once more. Gabe leaned in, barely keeping a distance between their faces. "But as your partner, I think it compliments you and makes you ten times cuter. But, for now, my little bell flower..."

Gabe pulled away with a grin. "You should go change into pajamas! Bathroom is the door at the end of the hallway, my room is on the left. We can toss your bag in my room, then we can hang in the living room and I'll order pizza!"

Yuki blushed a little bit, surprised at how smooth Gabe was being. He... he seemed very much in control. It was different. He wondered if Gabe was faking it, but he didn't mind. Maybe this was what Gabe was like when he was at home? Yuki knew that he himself definitely acted different in public compared to at home.

"Yeah... I'll do that." He smiled, not going to mention the nickname for now. He wasn't sure if he liked it, since it kind of felt...belittling? In a sense? He wasn't a girl either, so being called a flower was kind of... well. Anyway, he had more pressing matters to think about. Like saving himself from this sweltering heat. He knew Gabe didn't like the cold, but was it that bad? It felt like a greenhouse in here... Gabe's apartment itself was nice, though. Plain, but not in a bad way. He saw touches of personalisation here and there, like a decoration or two. And the TV wasn't bad, so Yuki knew he wouldn't go out of his mind.

He smiled when he saw the books. A lot of books. Gabe was a bookworm, huh? And a lot of them had cheesy titles too. Forbidden Love, My Boyfriend's a Freak, Bad Romance... pfft. Yuki couldn't help but wonder if these had been joke gifts from Gabe's friends. Which Yuki knew surprisingly little about. Huh. He'd have to ask about them later. For now, though, Yuki had taken his pyjamas out of his suitcase and was now headed to the bathroom. Which was slightly cooler, thank goodness.

Now changed, Yuki inspected himself in the mirror. He couldn't help but wonder if this outfit choice was a mistake too. At first, he'd thought the vest top to be a good idea - it was nice, and read 'good night. Have a good dream.' on it, but now... it was a vest. And did reveal how skinny Yuki really was. But he supposed that wouldn't be too much of a problem. He could just button up the striped cardigan if he needed to. It was warm and fluffy, but the boy couldn't help but wonder if he'd overheat with it being this warm. At least the shorts were fine. Fluffy and warm. And the socks were nice and loose too. When Yuki had spotted the outfit in a catalogue, he just knew he had to order it! But bringing the shoes felt off, somehow, so he'd settled for slippers. The shoes were meant for some cabin-type place, he knew, from seeing the catalogue's model photos.

"I'm dressed!" He proclaimed happily, returning to greet Gabe after having put his bag in Gabe's room. He hadn't rooted around, just left the bag behind the door after taking out his games and such. He didn't want to invade Gabe's privacy. Setting everything down - Switch dock and all - he looked to Gabe. "What do you want to do first? Oh, and um..." He fidgeted a little. "When do your family come home?" The boy knew it was a bit of an awkward question. He knew Gabe had a mum, but did he have anyone else? Yuki had just assumed, so...

Gabe hummed as Yuki went off to change. This was exciting! He gets to hang out with his friend and no drama to interrupt! He threw himself on the couch and glanced at his phone. His mom hadn't texted him to give a return time, but she usually returned around eight PM. That gave the two boys about two hours of being alone before having to be socially polite.

At the sound of Yuki's voice, Gabe glanced up to see his friend in a very unexpected choice of pajamas. Not that he was complaining about in the slightest because, holy heck was Yuki cute. Feeling his face flush for a moment, he quickly turned towards his phone to pull up the nearby pizzeria's phone number. That would be a good distraction to not think about your partner and how much you want to hold him close when you're trying to keep your relationship on the down low.

Which hasn't worked since half the friend group already found out plus the second note which Gabe should probably mention to Yuki at some point.

"We can do whatever. If you want, we can get the Switch set up so I can begin my horrible reign of trash talk during Mario Kart. I adore you, Yuki, and you're my partner, but when we race, all bets are off." He giggled, glancing at Yuki occasionally but looking away. Stupid teenage brain being ridiculous. "And my mom will be home... eventually? It kind of depends on whenever she decides she's had enough at the shop and comes home. No later than eight, though."

"Also, what kind of pizza do you like? I can call that in so we can have delicious greasy food."

Yuki noticed the flush crawl across Gabe's cheeks and felt his own warm in response. Dammit. What was with this boy and making him blush? He was good at it. And that giggle was so adorable. So Gabe was more relaxed than usual. It was cute, so cute. Gabe needed to stop being cute - it should be made illegal.

Yuki died inside at being told Gabe adored him. That was it. Nail in the coffin. His face burned brighter than Venus. This was too much. He didn't deserve Gabe. He didn't deserve any of this. "...I'm going to win." He said, face still in his hands. "And...when your mum comes home, I'm...going to try to tone it down a bit. So for now..." He sat down beside Gabe, resting his head on the other boy's shoulder. His presence was comforting. It was like magic - when Gabe was around, Yuki found that his metaphorical demons tended to ebb away. He could surpress them a bit more easily. In general, he'd been getting better, but he was still far from out of the woods.

"Anything's fine. I don't eat pizza that much, and you promised not to put pineapples on it, so..." He smiled, nuzzling into Gabe's shoulder more. It was nice to just... relax. And having Gabe around helped him to do that.

Gabe let out a small snort. Yuki was trying to argue back about winning at Mario Kart, but it was a bit harder to understand through his hands. He smiled as he watched Yuki lean into him, and the tiny voice in the back of his head wanted to be closer. If Yuki planned on toning it down when his mom got home, got to enjoy the most of it now, right?

With a gentle tug, Gabe guided Yuki's head to rest in his lap, a parallel to their position back at the Valentine's celebration at the community center. He let out a small hum and begin to gently run his fingers through Yuki's hair. He wondered how Yuki kept his hair so soft but he supposed that it was some sort of expensive hair product. He'd have to ask later.

"I know you want to keep our relationship quiet. I'll be good when my mom gets home. But," he pauses, looking down at the boy laying in his lap, "Whenever you're ready, I can't wait to introduce you to her again. I'm honestly so happy to just have moments like this. Where it's just us. No stress, nothing terrible looming. No interruptions."

He stared down at Yuki for a few moments longer then used one hand to pull up his phone to start tapping an order on the pizza place app. He could call and it would probably go faster, but Gabe wanted to just continue to enjoy the moment he got to share with his partner. "We'll keep it simple. Pepperoni pizza is always good."

"Yeah. It is nice." Yuki relaxed on Gabe's lap, enjoying the warmth and the floofiness as he played with Gabe's pyjama bottom leg. It was less fluffy than Yuki's own, but still nice and warm. It was comforting to have things like this. Little reminders that yes, Gabe was real and that no, Yuki hadn't just dreamt him up one day. And now he was in a relationship with this guy. Who was definitely real. And kind. And not a jerk. All good things to be.

The boy pouted and made funny faces at Gabe's phone, just in case Gabe was taking a photo. (Which Yuki definitely had to do at some point. Sleepover selfies with Gabe was high on his list of priorities.) The other boy probably wasn't, though, so eh. It was fun messing about a bit, and the feeling of Gabe's fingers through his hair felt nice and familiar. It reminded him of their many late nights alone in the community centre. It was crazy, when Yuki thought about it. They'd only known each other for just over two months, and they were already dating. Yuki had never imagined his first love would be anything other than slow burn, let alone him being swept off his feet by someone he'd essentially just met. Even if it already felt like they'd known each other forever. Come to think of it...

"Hey, Gabe ?" The boy began. "Back at the community center, when we first met... Why did you push me? To open up, I mean."
