In an odd moment of weird synchronizing, both Gabe and Catalina let out an audible gasp for two very different reasons. Gabe felt betrayed at Yuki's sudden questioning while Catalina was ecstatic at being able to tell a story of Gabriel's youth. She hadn't had the chance to tell any stories since arriving from Halcyon so this was the perfect opportunity. Gabe could only get out a small "No, mo-" before Catalina hushed her son and shifted to face Yuki fully.

"Gabriel, hush." Catalina grinned, gently waving off her son's concern. "I won't tell your friend anything too embarrassing. Yet." Gabe groaned, but seemed to accept that there was nothing he could do to stop his mother. "Okay, so when Gabriel was about six, he really loved to snack on sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds were an absolutely necessity to keep him happy or he'd have a full temper tantrum." She giggled while Gabe simply set his head down on the table with a very loud groan. It was obvious Gabe knew what story Catalina was telling.

"So, this was also around the time that his powers had begun to develop so Gabriel spent a lot of time pushing seeds to grow and blossom or sleeping next to potted seeds to wake up and see what plants have grown. So I'm working in the shop when I hear my little boy crying in the back room. So I quickly run to the back to find Gabe on the floor, covered in sunflower seed shells and crying uncontrollably. I ask him... I ask him what's the problem and he-"

At this point, Catalina is beginning to laugh between words, desperately trying to finish her story. "Gabriel tells me that he had eaten the sunflower seeds so now his tummy was going to be full of sunflowers! So I'm sitting there, trying my best not to laugh at my baby boy because those seeds aren't going to grow. Eventually, I tell him and you know what he does?"

"He starts crying more because the seeds won't ever grow!"
Catalina is full laughing at this point and Gabe has not removed his head from the table. This was not what he expected from this night.

Yuki hung on every word, an image of the adorable baby Gabe imprinted on his mind. Surely sharp toothed people like his friend could be gap-toothed too, right? It must have happened at some point. Sunflower seeds were an interesting snack choice, but there were weirder things to snack on. Yuki could only wonder how Gabe had managed to feast on them without molars. It must have been quite the sight.

Yuki couldn't help but snicker along with Catalina as she continued, the tension rising and rising as the story got better and better and he leaned in closer and closer to listen carefully to the whole tale, pizza forgotten as he imagined the baby Gabe - the Gabey - cry about how his stomach would grow sunflowers until he started crying more at the idea of not growing sunflowers and honestly? It was hilarious!

Yuki found himself laughing just as hard as Catalina, trying to shoot Gabe an apologetic look but failimg miserably as he couldn't catch his breath over the deep humour of Gabe's innocent childhood antics. His stomach hurt and his chest ached for a steady flow of air, but neither of his body's requests were heeded as he laughed so hard he felt tears form in his eyes. He could let his body suffer a bit while he relished this. It wasn't like that was the first time his lungs had been deprived of stable breathing.

"Oh...! Oh wow...! That's adorable. Gabe was such a sweet child, oh my goodness..." He wheezed, unfazed by the sharp look of betrayal that Gabe shot him from across the table. That was too good; just way too cute...!
Yuki wished he'd had stories to tell like that, but his childhood had been too serious for it. He eventually sobered up, a warm yet slightly sad smile on his face as his cheeks protested against him chewing on the slice of pizza and then the second and third after that laughing fit. He still found himself giggling at random intervals. Wow. Catalina was good at storytelling.

Gabe muttered under his breath, eventually returning to his properly seated position. His cheeks were a bit pink and he gave Yuki a look of humor but a subtle layer of revenge-seeking hidden underneath. He quickly bit into his slice of pizza, trying his best not to pout too much while Catalina quietly drank from her glass of water. The two would also enjoy their slices of pizza before Ms. Vega began to clean up the dinner mess. If Yuki tried to intervene, she would politely but firmly refuse and insisted that he was a guest and would not be allowed to help.

"Alright, boys, I'm going to start settling into my room. I'll let you two have your privacy so I don't embarrass my baby boy any more~" She teased, leaving Gabriel to mutter a few words under his breath in Spanish while the tips of his ears turned red. She giggled, moving in to pull her son down to give him a proper kiss on the forehead and a wave to Yuki before heading down the hall and heading into her bedroom.

The moment Catalina disappeared and the familiar click of her door shutting fully, Gabe whipped his head around toward Yuki and he grinned maliciously. "You, sir, are going to get it. How dare you get an embarrassing story about me out of my mom!? You tricky little sneak!" He hissed, clearly teasing his partner as he moved toward the living room and sat in front of the television. "You. Me. Smash. One v. One. And then prepare to beg for forgiveness."

Gabe couldn't help but smile during his whole threat, not actually mad at the story. But he was excited that it was just the two of them once again.

Yuki couldn't help but hum a quiet "awww" at the cute moment of familial love shared between Gabe and Catalina. He'd never had many moments like that in his childhood, so seeing the two of them interact set off a small feeling of emptiness inside; he couldn't really understand it but he wanted it gone, like an itch you couldn't scratch.

With Catalina having insisted on doing things herself (quite pointedly, one might add. Yuki had tried helping out anyway to find the plates removed from his hands swiftly) and leaving the room before long, Yuki found his gaze traveling back to Gabe to see a startling sight.

It was a nice change to see Gabe grin properly with all his teeth, but their pointedness did carry a level of malice. His tone of voice was threatening but his face was light, although his words made Yuki's insides churn for a moment as an unpleasant memory crossed his mind. He shut his eyes tight and shuddered, forcing the scene away and praying that Gabe wouldn't use those words ever again.

"Alright. Consider the gauntlet thrown! You'll have no sympathy from me." He smiled back, pushing thoughts not related to Gabe out of his mind in an instant. "And yes. That was a reference to Ike. Do be prepared to face the Great Aether." He laughed, then checked to make sure Catalina wasn't anywhere near before hugging Gabe tightly and pressing his face into Gabe's clothes. His pyjamas were warm and fluffy. Warm and comforting. And Gabe was sturdy; his rock. His anchor.

Thank you, Gabe. You chase my demons away. He thought to himself as he revelled in the other boy's warmth.

Gabe was already plotting which character to counter Yuki with before he felt the other boy hug into him tightly. The light smell of lavender hit his nose with his partner so close and Gabe couldn't help but giggle as he he returned the hug and held on just as tight. The warmth from the hug was nice, but it was a different kind of warmth that made Gabe really. This warmth was comforting to Gabe, a reminder that he was wanted and needed and not useless. He felt useful and important and all of the things that people were supposed to feel...

Right?

"I... am ready to face combat, Yuki. Although I like you a lot, I must fight for my honor. Your champion fights for his friends, but mine fights for the future!" Gabe grinned, slowly loosening the hug but still keeping his arms around Yuki. He'd let go completely when the white-haired boy was ready but he wasn't going to keep the other boy trapped in a hug. He knew there were limits to how physically affectionate they could be, considering the point of the sleepover was meant as a hangout as friends, not partners.

Yuki smiled, eventually letting go before booping Gabe on the nose. He was going to keep it low key so that the two didn't get caught should Catalina suddenly decide to come back in. Part of him couldn't help but wonder if there might be cameras around the apartment or something, but that was probably just him being paranoid. Gabe wasn't like that. Besides, Gabe was a good person. He couldn't do anything wrong, no matter what he said about himself.

"Bring it on," he smiled back lightheartedly before booting up the game. He suffered a loss in the first round, which brought his competitive nature out - it was time for a little strategy. "The loser has to give the winner a kiss sometime," he whispered in Gabe's ear and smiled as he felt Gabe literally warm up next to him. And surely enough, Gabe ended up losing the next four matches.

"I can't help but wonder if you threw those," Yuki drawled after his initial cry of victory. Why was Gabe so fun to tease? He turned to look at his partner's face, and...

Gabe could almost feel the steam rising from his ears at Yuki's flirtation. Clearly, he was trying to play some sort of mental game to keep Gabe from utterly destroying him in the game. But, alas, it was a foolish effort. The plant user wouldn't be so easily swayed by a simple bet to lose the battle so easily. Who did Yuki think Gabe was?

...Apparently, Gabe got played.

He got played hard. The initial round had gone so well! What happened!? Yuki swept him so easily; it was like the white-haired boy had been simply toying with him and let him have the first match. ...He didn't do that, did he? Did Yuki play him like a fiddle from the very beginning!? Of course, after the last match, the trash talk continued. Not like Gabe didn't deserve it, but it was definitely a wound to his pride. But, on the bright side, the bet wasn't a total disappointment. And maybe, just maybe, Gabe could get a little revenge, too.

When Yuki turned to look over at Gabe in his post-victory glow, the plant user swept in. The controller had been set to the side and he pulled Yuki in with both hands on the other's cheeks. Their lips were pressed together in a kiss but Gabe didn't let go right away. He had a plan and he was sticking to it, regardless of how embarrassing it made him feel. Gabe held the kiss close for as long as he could, trying to draw out every second of the embrace before pulling away slowly with a small grin. His breathing was a little shaky from nervousness but he was going to try to keep a straight face. A new game had been started now.

"One down, three to go. I did lose four times, after all."

Yuki felt his face suddenly grabbed by warm hands as Gabe pulled him into a kiss. Wha--
What?!

No. No way. That was not on. That was unfair. Yuki was trying to tone himself down, and here Gabe was trying to expose them?! No.

The white-haired boy's eyes widened as he took in a sharp breath, hands trying to figure out what they were going to do before they rested on his partner's hips, rather limp from the shock but trying to enforce their presence. This was not a kissing moment. This was...this was meant to be an evening between two friends. What was Gabe doing?! Why was he trying to mess everything up?!

The boy felt panic rise in his chest before he cut it short, forcing the mask on over his heart. Okay. Butterfly Yuki could handle this. Butterfly Yuki could avoid upsetting Gabe while keeping the mood light. And once the butterly had done its job, he could let it fly away. Simple.

"Oh come on, Gabe," he giggled, cheeks genuinely flushed from the kissing. Good. That was a good thing. It made him more believable. "Now's not the time or place for being boyf-- er, partners." He tucked a strand of hair behind his ear with a small smile. "Let's change the game, before things get too serious." Before he knew it, Yuki was already going over to his Switch to change the cartridge, face falling as the mask slipped off once Gabe was out of view. He knew it would have worked. Not even Gabe could escape Butterfly Yuki's smooth slickness.

He was sure of it, he thought as he heard the familiar booting up of Mario Party.

Gabe could feel a small frown forming from disappointment. He lost the game and had to kiss Yuki, right? That was the whole point of the game? Then why did his boyfr-... no, partner, seem so hesitant on actually following through? He continued to think as Yuki pulled away to change the game before the very obvious realization hit. Yuki had said so himself. "This wasn't the time or place to be partners." Gabe mentally cursed himself for getting distracted. Of course Yuki didn't want to kiss or be partners. He had already told Gabe earlier that the affection had to be toned down.

So tone it down he would.

"Alright, Yuki. But you're choosing Mario Party next? I hope you're ready for the game to mess with both of us." He laughed, shifting slightly in his spot. Once he had adjusted properly, he leaned his back against the couch and gave a small sigh of relaxation. This was nice, even without being able to be totally out in the open with their relationship. Just having his partner here to hang out and have fun without stress was honestly the perfect way to spend the day.

Without stress? Ha. What a funny idea. Yuki could feel his head start pounding a little, eyebrows creasing as he tried to ignore it. When he turned to face Gabe again, a bright smile was all that was left on his features. He could ignore a little pain.

"Be prepared to lose. You'll be surprised at just how far I'll Toad." He snickered, starting the party and choosing the familiar mushroom-headed servant. Toadstool. Whatever it was called. He couldn't help but wonder if Gabe was familiar with the meme, but Yuki was versed enough in popular culture to make the reference. Then again, maybe it wasn't a well-known thing. He kind of just wanted the night to be done with so he could sleep and not have to think about how to enjoy the night with his partner without being too lovey-dovey or socially distant. Or...mentally distant? Romantically distant? He didn't know the term.

Oh. Emotionally distant. That was it. His emotions were kind of on lockdown at the moment, until he could control them. But he did allow himself to feel happy.
