Sickness isn't fun...

Mery nodded. "Like a baby. You know, that's an odd expression. Babies are generally light sleepers." She shrugged and smiled, feeling somewhat better.

Nicolas laughed softly at what she said. "Heh, I suppose you're right," he said. "And I'm glad to hear that you slept well. Feeling any better?" Just because she had slept well didn't mean she would feel any better, though he hoped she would, in fact, feel even the tinniest bit better.

Mery nodded. "A little." She said. She felt around the table next to her bed for the glass of water. Once she found it, she took a drink and managed to put it back with out spilling it. "My throat's not so scratchy."

He smiled widely upon hearing this. "That's good, I'm glad," Nicolas said. He watched as she reached for the water and successfully put it back down without spilling any of it, a bit surprised, seeing as how she was blind. "Do you want me to get you anything?" he asked.

Mery shook her head. "Nah, I'm good for right now." She said. It was true, but also, she didn't want Nicolas to have to do a lot of stuff for her.

The next day, Nicolas came back to her dorm room, just to see if she was feeling any better. It was his seventeenth birthday today, but he didn't really feel any different. Well, not right now, at least. Actually, come to think of it, he rarely felt different after his birthday.

Anyway, shaking his head and getting rid of his random thoughts, he knocked on her door, hoping she would realize it was him again. He waited outside patiently, also hoping that she wouldn't actually get up to open the door. He wanted her to rest and feel better, after all.

Mery had been in that place between sleep and wakefulness. When someone knocked on the door, she woke up all the way. Guessing it was Nikki, she called as loudly as she could, "Just a second." She climbed out of bed and laid down on the ground. She felt around under her bed until her hand landed on something hard. She picked it up then got back in bed. "Okay. You can come in now."

As soon as she said 'just a second', he was sure she was going to answer the door, and sighed inwardly upon believing that. However, when she said he could come in, he was glad to know that she hadn't actually gotten out of bed. Of course, he didn't exactly know that she had done so, just to get something from under her bed.

He opened the door and stepped inside, closing it behind him. "Hey," he greeted. "How are you feeling?"

Mery thought for a second. "Like I've been shot but forgot to fall over?" She said lightly. "Happy Birthday." She held out his present.

"Oh, well that doesn't sound pleasant," Nicolas said with a quiet laugh. "But, sorry." He blinked upon seeing that she had got him a present, not having expected or even wanted one, but took it anyway, a smile on his face. "Thanks," he said. "But you didn't have to. Should I open it now?"
