Mery nodded and smiled. "Yes. And hurry, because I'm impatient." She listened for the crinkling of wrapping paper. She hoped that he liked what she got him.
Nicolas laughed. "Fine," he said. He blinked when he saw what she had got him, but his smile widened, happy to see his present. "Thanks, Mery!!" he said, flipping through his own copy of Interview With The Vampire. "Really, this is awesome."
Mery smiled, glad that he liked it. "Welcome. Now if you ever have to do a book report on it again, you don't have to worry about me getting you the wrong book." She said jokingly. She leaned back against the pillow. "So how has your birthday been so far?"
Nicolas laughed quietly, though it was a nervous sort of laugh. "Eh, sorry about that..." he said, referring to when he had asked her to get the book for him in the library. He shrugged his shoulders when asked how his birthday had been so far. "It's been ok, I guess. It's just another day, really... I don't really feel any different. Oh, well, whatever."
Mery shook her head. "It's not like you knew." She said. It's just another day, really... I don't really feel any different. Oh, well, whatever. Mery nodded. "Yeah, I think that's how it usually is." She agreed. At any rate, that's how it was for her.
"Yeah," Nicolas said. He continued flipping through the book, and decided to just read a little of it. He went back to the first page and started reading, though keeping an ear out in case Mery said anything. He didn't want her to think he was ignoring her or anything, after all.
Mery could hear the pages rustling, so she guessed he was reading. She stayed quiet, so that he could concentrate on his book. She closed her eyes, but didn't fall asleep.
Nicolas continued reading until he noticed her eyes close. He could tell she wasn't asleep, though. "Sorry if it seems like I'm ignoring you... I promise I'm not," he said softly. He didn't want that, and he didn't exactly want her to feel bored, either. Even if she was sick and couldn't do much, she should still have something to do.
Mery shook her head. "It's okay. I'm remembering how much fun it is to not be sick." She said the second part jokingly. "How's the book?" She asked, not sure if he actually wanted to talk, or if he was just checking on her.
Nicolas offered her a comforting smile. "Sorry," he said to her comment on remembering what it was like to be healthy. "You'll get better eventually, I'm sure." When she asked how the book was, his smile widened and became more happy than comforting. "It's great. I really like it, thanks again for getting it for me."
