"Oh, I'm not going to sleep!" Soft laughter bubbled up from Adelene's chest again. She was sleepy, yes, but there was no way she was going to fall asleep while she was having such a good time with Eph.

Eph was funny though. Adelene was almost really curious about how strong she says she was. Actually, omit the 'almost'.

"How strong, exactly?" she asked, her tone tinged with genuine wondering. And then... it suddenly sunk into her what Eph just said before that. Her cheeks lightened up slightly. "...And why did you say I'd be wearing some entirely different outfit if I sleep?"

"Come on... you can't expect me to bring home such high-quality material and not make anything out of it? I mean, if I brought you home I'd start making stuff you could wear whether you liked it or not." Eph tilted her head with a questioning smile, as if asking without words, is this girl serious?

She planted a foot on the floor and pushed herself up with an arm and a tail. Back to a sitting position with her legs folded, she put a finger to her chin in thought. "Hmm... wait, there is one thing."

Hoping Adelene wouldn't notice that she was skirting around the question of strength, Eph asked, "Do you... sing and or dance?"

Adelene's brows wrinkled in confusion, a weirded out smile on her face. "What?" she almost snorted when she shrugged her shoulders, almost as if she couldn't believe Eph was asking that. It was the strangest question she's ever heard.

"Sing and dance..?" She shrugged again. "No, I don't, why?" She doesn't sing. But she was never going to tell that she used to sing slow songs to her parents when she was younger. She doesn't dance either, and she's never tried dancing before, unless it was choreography that could help with her evading and combat skills.

"Just thought it'd fit you and make you even more adorable... ehehehehe," Eph chuckled, taking care to not show her internal conspiring. Everyone sang, and everyone danced - it was simply a matter of finding the right tune to play them to. Her eyes closed slightly, subtly observing.

Adelene - well, Eph didn't know what kind of music she listened to or would listen to. Not yet anyway, but she'd thought of a few alternate avenues of attack against Adelene's defenses. She decided to put one such avenue to the test, and began to sing in earnest, knowing full well that her voice wasn't quite all that high-quality."This song's been in my head on loop since a few weeks ago - I, uh, screw intros, I'm just jumping straight into it."

Going a capella, she sang,

"I can't stop this fee -lin'
Deep inside of me
Girl, you just don't realize -
strangely appropriate, actually -
What you do to me

When you hold me
In your arms so tight
You let me know
Everything's alright
"

Eph jumped up and snapped her fingers to the beat in her head with a gleeful smile, immersed in the mood. She raised a hand to the sky, adding some flair to her singing.

"And I - I - I'm
Hooked on a feeling
I'm high on believing
That you're in love with me
- okay, I'm not singing the whole song. I'm sparing you the agony of my aural torture."

Though her voice stopped carrying on with the song, she kept rhythmically dancing off on her own, tail swinging to the beat of her snapping fingers.

She didn't expect that. She didn't expect Eph would suddenly sing, and honestly, she didn't even know what this song was. It didn't matter though, Eph's voice wasn't very smooth, but she hit the notes, at least Adelene thought so, and that's good.

"I'm sorry, I don't know that song," she laughed sheepishly, apologetically. "I don't listen to specific artists but... rock music is always nice. And by rock I mean rock that isn't too hard or metal. Oh, and some country songs here and there."

Was she supposed to sing too though? She felt obliged, since Eph already went ahead and shared her voice. Adelene cleared her throat and tried to think of some good lyrics, even though her stomach was starting to hurt like some rock just dropped in there because damn, she wasn't used to singing in front of others.

"Life will come our way,
It has only just begun.
The world will die alone,
The frail will fall below.

"Time will take our place.
We return it back to one
The calm before the cold,
The long and lonely road.

"Look for the light that leads me home.

"Tired of feeling lost... tired of letting go.
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down.
Tired of wasting breath! Tired of nothing left...
Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down...
Failure...
"

Her voice faded, and she curled up and hid her face because well. That was embarrassing. She didn't think she'd sing something that long, but somewhere along the lines, she just felt all hyped feeling the music escape her lips. The vibration in her throat was thrilling in a sense. And the lyrics were so awesome to her that she felt them in her chest.

Eph should never know those thoughts. Unknown to her, her voice was pretty smooth for someone who didn't go under voice training.

"...I suck at singing, don't even try complimenting it."

"Oh, I won't try. Nowhere near literate enough to find the proper compliments aside from 'it's great, I love it' a-anyway. Wait..." Eph's voice trailed off, wondering why Adelene seemed so blurry and why her voice felt shaky. She put a claw up to her eyes and it came back moist, giving her an answer that needed further explanation. The first theory was her mother - she always did have unconventional tastes. Despite looking like someone who'd fit in a period piece, her mother would listen to Rise Against in the middle of the night, singing all on her lonesome. "Oh. So that's why."

She tried to carefully wipe away the tears, avoiding accidentally gouging her eyes out with her claws. "Man, is it hard to be teary when you're a lizard. Always worried about going blind. Ignore me, go on, keep singing."

Adelene stopped, though. She didn't know what she did wrong, but seeing Eph's eyes getting teary made her feel like she really did do something wrong. With a small gasp, she cupped the adorable lizard lady's cheeks and stared at her close. It's probably a pretty weird gesture, but Addy was wiping whatever tears were left on Eph's cheeks, and she was doing it in reflex.

Tears were her weakness.

"Eph, what's wrong..?" she asked, and worry was all over her voice. "Why are you... crying? Did I do anything wrong by any chance because if I did, I'm sorry..."

Crap.

In her head, Eph could vaguely hear an archaic video game voice go "The bomb has been planted." Great. She'd caused another misunderstanding. A few unrelated thoughts related to that thought streamed by, bringing a moment of mild confusion. "Thought unrelated but related to that thought... the hell?" she thought.

Adelene's concerned reaction was just too adorable and amusing though. Eph came under a mild fit of the cancer laugh, and wiped away a different sort of tear from her eyes. "It's nothing - you just reminded me of my ma. She used to play rock songs when she was still around... a bit different, but similar stuff. You know, old, classic rock. Queen. REO Speedwagon. The Cars. ACDC. And, uh... Wham. No idea why."

"Oh. I see."

Adelene didn't have a specific music genre she listens to, and it just so happened that she loved Breaking Benjamin. She didn't know if she should be sorry for making Eph cry but... she decided not to push the topic away.

She smiled at her and patted her head again. For once, Eph's cancer laugh has become funny.

"Alright, alright. What do you say about changing locations? Maybe the quiet air is making us emotional," she said, laughing softly.

"Ooh. A court change. I like it. I don't know about you though, because I'm always in touch with my sensitive side, which is located right... here." One hand went to her waist, right above her hip in demonstration. She stood up, picked up the hat that had lay forgotten on the floor for quite some time now, dusted it off and tossed it into he air with a bow. "And now, a magic trick from the magical lizard girl Ephrael."

As she bowed, her tail whipped the hat, making it land on her head. It snaked to the side and swung under her belly, as if an extra arm for bowing down. Eph stood up and fixed the hat, saying, "I wish ma named me Ephrael. At least it would make more sense."

"So... I know where we've come from, but where will we go? Where did you come from, cotton-eyed Joe?" Eph chuckled, trying not to laugh and miserably failing. Letting loose a short laugh, she went back to an unrelated song, humming. "You know, I was worried you'd have hated me like so many people I know but I'm glad you didn't. And since that's over, nothing can stop us now... only the good times le-eft. Nothing can stop out lo-ove... except terminal illness, or sudden accidental death. Thank you for tuning into this week's episode of Eph Kills The Mood."
