Adelene was scared Eph's reaction was because she WA going to reject her. She thought Eph was laughing at her because she was being absurd and she was never going to get her chance to make it up to her.

Eph's laugh was disturbing as fuck. Adelene was worried, but at the same time she had to cover her mouth because she felt her own laugh bubbling up from her chest, and she felt guilty about it. Eph said it was a precious thing to say, and worry turned to confusion almost immediately.

"Really..?" her brows made wrinkles above her nose. She eyed the hat, absentmindedly taking it. Eph said cute. Oh well, she wasn't the cute one, so she decided to shrug it off. "Does this mean you're saying yes..?"

Eph brought herself up to a standing position as best she could, keeping her eyes level with Adelene, which was proving difficult. Even if they were the same height essentially, her more conical head meant that her eyes were lower than Adelene's.

Seriously, Adelene was too cute for Eph to handle. Her words had that sort of innocence to them, which was very, very rare, as far as Eph knew. She would have jumped at her and hugged her - but after what she did, that was a bit of a bad thing to do without warning.

"Hey, quick warning - in approximately five seconds I am going to hug you. Okay? Okay."

With warnings out of the way, she tensed up, stretched out her arms, and then embraced Adelene with a very wide grin on her face. "Well, yeah! Why not? Who wouldn't want to be friends with you? ...actually, do answer that, I'm kinda curious."

The warning wasn't really all that helpful, as five seconds weren't enough for Adelene to register that Eph was going to hug her. She still flinched, but she quickly relaxed in her hug. And then, as the scene sunk into her, she slowly brought up her own arms to Eph's shoulder blades. She was hugging her back, but not as much as Eph was hugging her.

"Thank you, Eph!"

A soft laugh bubbled up from her chest. As if it's become much lighter instantly, relief washing over whatever had made it heavy.

She pulled away a few moments later, titling her head at Eph's seemingly rhetorical bit apparently not so rhetorical question. "...I don't know," she said. "I've met a lot of people and... they're all usually nice to me. Although... there are people I tend to... dislike..." Meant that she was actually the picky one. She wasn't going to tell Eph that she had a natural disliking to other girls unless she finds something special or beautiful about them and their personality. "You're my first female friend... to be honest... But then again, I don't really have too many friends yet. Why'd you ask?"

Okay. You've hugged her enough. Let go now... slowly. Careful. Don't scratch.

Eph released her grasp carefully and cautiously, because if she messed up she'd end up ruining Adelene's clothes, at the very least. Her tail cautiously pried away Adelene's arms, which proved a disappointingly easy task.

Once they were both free, she attempted a normal laugh, and messed up. "Ha - okay, I seriously should not be laughing around you. It is not good for either of us. I'm just going to calm down a bit, okay? Okay. And 'okay okay' is going to end up a thing at this rate."

She drew her lip back and hissed softly. Adelene's words felt profoundly sad to her. If her first female friend was some weird lizard person she met and knew because of drunken shenanigans, well, there was probably something wrong there. Not that she'd say it aloud though, cause it was a bit insensitive.

"There's something wrong if the first female friend you have is some weird lizard person you met and knew because of drunken shenanigans though, I'd say."

Oh, right, I was insensitive. I remember now, she chuckled to herself.

Her curiosity was piqued by Adelene's mention of dislike. Maybe that explained her lack of female friends, though there were probably some other factors involved there as well. Needless to say, she didn't stay silent about it. "So you mentioned there are people you don't like... tell me more, would ye kindly? I'm interested."

Adelene laughed it off. Even though Eph thought it was insensitive, Adelene honestly agreed, and it was only a matter of fact to her. She saw that Eph was just asking out of curiosity anyway, and that wasn't really a bother.

"It's a problem, you say? Maybe, maybe."

Before anything else, Adelene grabbed Eph's hand again and led her to an area shaded by the roof, before she sat down on the cool concrete ground. They took the effort to come here and talk, might as well sit down and stay for a while.

"I'll tell you why. It's not really a secret but... don't tell anyone, okay? They might be offended. Oh, and I hope you don't find it bad, either." She let her hand go and leaned against the wall. "I'm more used to a male's company 'cause they're the ones I needed for connections before I went here. I usually went to all kinds of pubs and bars to gather information, and most good people I met are guys. The girls I've encountered were mostly punies who don't even know how to swing an axe right. They can't defend themselves when needed."

Technically, she just hated softies. She'd hate puny guys too, she just haven't met one yet.

"If it's not like that, some girls I saw in bars are also too slutty for my taste."

And bitches. With terrible personalities.

"Oh Eph, but you're a fun and adorable girl! Even your outfit is cute, I swear. Though... not sure I'll be willing to try any dresses on."

She said it all so casually, with a smile even.

"Which reminds me, how've you been?"

"Heeeeey! I don't know how to swing an axe right!" Eph groaned. It was the truth, actually. Axes were heavy and unwieldy, and Eph was better with abuse of a speed advantage, what with her abilities. "I use them for trees, but honestly, I'm better with light stuff. Knives, short swords, but you know, I'm fine with these claws mostly." As if to brag, she put up her claws and wiggled her fingers.

Eph put her hat on Adelene's head and stepped back, framing the view with her fingers, leaning back as though taking snapshots. "Why not? They'd look great on you! I could get you a few clothes made if you asked, not just dresses... but seriously, consider it. It's like high-quality marble just waiting for Donatello."

"Which reminds me, how've you been?"

She bit a claw and leaned on a nearby wall with one leg stretched out, her head peeking out from under the roof and staring at the sky. The clouds sapped all of her focus for a bit and she derailed. Lazily, she said, "I sometimes wish I could be a cloud just floating around and all white and fluffy - wait, okay, where was we? How I was? Right, right."

"I've been fine, mostly... nothing much happened really. After the picnic fiasco, I went home, got frozen solid and put to bed, thawed out, and then I think at some point there was a visitor? Memory gets kinda hazy when you freeze. I recommend it when you're really tired."

She snapped back to attention, alternating between both listless and energetic with such rapidity that she was starting to get lost as well. From her perch, she went to Adelene and sat down, her tail tensing up and standing at attention as something for her to lean on. "But ignore me, we're on you now. Quick question - hell kinda life did you live to have a summary that sounds like an action movie?"

"It was a figure of speech, Eph! I adore people who know their own weapons. I just don't like puny ones."

Eph had bragged about her choice of blades, and Addy grinned to that. She knew most people in this place knew how to fight somehow, which makes her first reason of disliking people less likely, but the second reason... that's a different case. And even though Eph somewhat angered her during picnic, her first impression of her that she was a funny and adorable girl lingered.

And she was right. Eph was absolutely funny and adorable, especially when she suddenly gets lost in her thoughts, just like when she looked at the clouds. Adelene giggled and nodded.

The self-freeze caught her attention in a less casual attention though. Of course, Eph had that power, so she can do it willingly, and without getting in trouble. But no matter how much she wanted it, Adelene can only be curious, nothing more.

"I wish I can clear out some memories too when I'm fed up. Unless I hit myself on the head with my baseball bat, that's not really possible." A sigh escaped her slightly curved up lips.

She closed her eyes briefly, but Eph managed to take her attention again with another question. Adelene blinked at her, before her eyes wandered around as she thought of what to say. She turned back to Eph and shrugged.

"Is that how it sounds like? I don't watch movies that much so... I don't really know how they're like." She also didn't consider her life to be movie-worthy. "Also, before I came here... I was just constantly running away from one person. He's really powerful, but... he still wants my power for some reason. Can't let him have it." She shrugged again. And to make clear that she wasn't going to tell Eph anything more, she waved her hand dismissively in the wind in front of her.

"I really wish I could also temporarily freeze myself..."

"Oh! You - you thought I froze myself. I, uh, didn't." Eph shook her head with a wry grin at the tip of her lips. The confusion was understandable - after all, no one would guess that she lived with another person who could also freeze things. "I... how do I explain. This is kind of a long story, please hold on."

"Where do I begin even..?" she asked aloud, staring straight into her claws, lost in thought. Maybe she could begin from finding Crystal, but that would be even longer. She decided to skip that part instead.

"So, I live with this girl named Crystal, who I fished out of the ocean some time ago, which is a different, also long story, and well she also has similar powers. Came home with that nasty hangover after everything went down, asked her for ice and I think I said 'ice me' so she, uh, froze me. No big deal... we, uh, do that a lot. Is - is that weird? Seriously, I don't know."

Confused brows wrinkled Adelene's forehead, but she patiently and curiously listened to Eph as the lizard lady spoke of this Crystal person who was living with her. Turns out it was another fun story. And she chuckled as Eph finished. "I think it's a little weird, to be honest," her lips were curved up to a grin as she spoke. "But I'm not that familiar with people whose powers are like yours, so I don't really know. Maybe not so weird after all?"

Adelene turned to the clouds, too, but she was looking at the ones far away, and she'd lean more against the wall and try to relax. She really wanted to try that, maybe she'll get her head cleared if Eph froze her for a few moments. After the incident during picnic day, she's been really hoping to find some sort of distraction from all the guilt.

"Eph, how do you do it? What happens if you do it to me?"

"Oh. Wow. Didn't think you'd actually listen. That's... very nice." Eph was dumbstruck, to say the least. Normally, people muted her out the moment she began rambling.

Actually, everything about Adelene at the moment made her want to lower her guard. She could probably kill Eph if she so much as tried anything weird, and Eph was fully aware of that, yet she seemed as harmless as her pa at the moment. Except with more mobility.

"So it isn't weird. Well, how about that. Rest of my family's still weird as all hell, but at least Crystal living with me isn't."

That last particular question didn't seem like something she'd want to touch. There was a lot of weight behind it, and using her magic on anything not a matter of life or death on such a scale... was too risky for her. "You mean the freezing? Sorry, no can do. Freezing someone solid is something I only ever did once in my life, and it was an all-or-nothing then. I don't have enough control to guarantee a hundred percent survival rate, and while it's less than that, I'm not using it."
