Yesterday was aware of the stares he got among the throngs of people. It was warm; spring had come and the lilacs were blooming. People wandered about in shirts and shorts, a few carrying umbrellas to shield themselves from the midday sun. And him? His usual clothes; he only had one set, after all. A heavy white jacket that brushed his ankles, a bright yellow scarf, suit pants that looked too formal, white gloves and boots that nearly laced up to his knees. Yes, he wasn't dressed for this and people noticed.

Well... at least he had an umbrella, like a few others.

His sensors told him that there was a lot of pollen in the air, as well as certain chemicals emitting from the flowers. It was the scent that probably attracted so many people, and then the stalls and vendors and music just came with the wave. How interesting. He dutifully recorded that in his memory and walked among the flowering trees, keeping towards the fringes of people instead of diving right in.

Yesterday scanned the faces of festival-goers as they walked by; quite a few of them were happy, and so he should be happy, too. He quickly put on a cheerful expression to mimic those around him.

He didn't have the slightest idea as to why he had chosen to go to this. It's not like he could make the excuse that he was on his way back from classes, as he didn't have to go downtown to do that. Perhaps he had went up to get something to eat? No, there was a food court at the school and he had plenty in his dorm. Whatever he thought of, he would just have to live with the fact that he was going to a heavily crowded place... Because he wanted to.

He wasn't exactly dressed for the weather. He was someone that didn't like to show off their legs, for many, superficial reasons. He wore a pair of tight fitting jeans, with a barely loose t-shirt, with clean sneakers. He wasn't that bad though, when he looked up to see someone that looked like a traffic cone in a otherwise back and white picture.

He recognized the figure, somewhere, somehow. Before long, he remembered the weird sounding boy he had met a rather long time ago, while he was studying. Yesterday. He gulped, as Maylynn felt bad for not having the book the person had lent him with him. He didn't have anything on him, except his slim wallet in his right back pocket, encase of an emergency. His hands got clammy, his throat coarse like barbed wire as he stopped in the walking path of Yesterday, unsure if he should use his powers and hide away forever from such embarrassment.

He scanned all of the faces that walked in and out of his line of sight, matching them up to his data banks and figuring out who he knew and in what context. A park of being a robot; eternal and endless memory, more or less, especially true for him because he was created to store data.

There were scant few he knew from the past, but now he knew many more faces and they were all stored under 'Lilac Festival' in his mind. That was, until he stumbled across a face he pinpointed to a month and a half ago, in the library, over a biology textbook. He immediately brought up the file in his mind: Maylynn. The island was small, he was bound to come across an acquaintance at one point or another.

Yesterday stopped just a few feet short from the boy, the same fake and plastic smile still plastered on his face. He raised a hand as he'd seen so many people do in a little wave. "Hello Maylynn." His tone, despite his expression, was just as static as ever.

When Yesterday stopped, he gulped again, as it was obvious that he had noticed. Was it the clothes? Some weird way he had turned his head? Or maybe he had just recognized such an odd person like him. Yet again, any explanation wold be futile. He tried to stand his ground as they stared for a matter of seconds, before the man raised his hand, giving him a fake feeling wave. The emotion on his face was almost too much for him to look at.

"H-Hi there...." His voice faded out like some some distant memory, or as if the wind had blew it away. There was no wind though, no distant thought to carry him away from what he was saying. He was there, talking to a boy that knew him. "W-What are you doing here." He flushed red and glanced to the left of him, not wanting to make eye contact unless he needed to.

The boy didn't seem very happy to see him. Huh, how disappointing. He figured he'd made a decent impression the first time at the library, but apparently not. Well, second time was the charm; was that how the saying went? He figured there would be nothing to lose, anyways.

"There is a festival." Wasn't that a reason to be here? It seemed like one anyways; people always said they were going to events and festivals and such. He looked around again, scanning the area in case there was something else he missed. No, just the festival.

One hand reached out to point at the flowers hanging just above their heads. "See? These are what people are celebrating."

Of course, the festival. Maylynn felt stupid for having forgotten something like that. All of the girls were talking about it, as well as the boys, with their various reasons. He had none; he didn't have a significant other that he wanted to share it with, or any friends that he could enjoy it with. He didn't even like events that much, as if just meant a lot of people, people that would judge him and giggle at his weird fashion.

He stared at the person and looked up when he did. "Right, the lilacs." He gave the overhead flourishing a nod. Maylynn then slowly moved his head down. "Did you come with someone?" He wondered if such a good looking man had someone. He wanted to feel calmer, and not so uptight about him being in such a crowded place. He put his hands together in front of him and waited.

Despite the oddness of the subject matter - he didn't yet understand why humans put so much significance in flowers - he supposed the lilacs were pretty. Not quite beautiful; beautiful was programmed into his systems as small, bioluminescent, perhaps transparent and pale. These were basically none of those...

His attention snapped back. Not that it was gone in the first place, but rather split and redirected so he could work on multiple things at once. He shook his head; left once, right once, dead center. "No, I have come alone." Though, upon having his attention called to it, he did realize most of the people attending the festival were paired off somehow.

"Was I supposed to go with someone?"

It wasn't that surprising, considering that he was alone as of now. He shifted his feet closer together, wondering if Yesterday had chosen to be alone, or just had no one to go with. He glanced at him, before directing his gaze to his feet as he listened.

"I think that's the point of the event." He added on as he slowly eyed up the man from head to toe. "It's just a good time to, enjoy it with someone else I'd say." Maylynn wasn't sure of this at all, but it sounded right.

The point of the event? He thought it was the music, or the flowers. Or maybe he was sadly mistaken and he'd really messed this one up. Oh dear... Yesterday blinked; he didn't actually need to, but it was similar to hitting the refresh button on a computer. The scant information he did have on the festival was just from fliers and posters, and it didn't mention a partnered event. He must've missed it, or it wasn't said on the posters but implied. Humans were weird like that; there were so many things implied.

"You don't have anyone either." Or at least he was assuming so, considering the man was asking and the absence of a partner. "Would you like to be my partner? That was the correct question to ask, yeah? It benefited the both of them in this case.

Now humans could be persuaded. He'd kind of learned that through books and watching people interact, as well as a few movies. They would more likely do what you asked if they felt a kinship towards you.

Yesterday grinned a little again, though it still looked plastic and fake. "You're very pretty." Not quite as pretty as he was, according to those analytical graphs he'd been installed with. But he had pale hair and pale skin, and his eyes were bright and he was short. That's how it was supposed to be, was it?

Yesterday was right. Maylynn had no one, he never had. The thought hurt him a bit, as now that he was here, glancing to his sides at couple, he felt a bit alone. Not that he would ever admit that to anyone, as even the thought of asking someone to come would kill him.

When Yesterday asked if he would be his partner, he instantly turned three shades too red. He stood there, like a deer in headlights, just staring at this man that had blown his mind more than once. H
