Oh... Did he say something wrong? Was he mistaken in his compliment? Yesterday was somewhat aware that humans blushed, but back at home when peoples' faces turned different colours, it usually meant they were angry. For humans, blushes could also mean anger but apparently also embarrassment.
Maylynn's words came out as if he were a record player with a scratch. He believed this was called 'stuttering', and he did that a lot while his face got exceedingly red until he had to hide. Huh, so perhaps that wasn't a good way to go about it then. He reevaluated and made sure to make note of that for next time. Humans didn't like being complimented after all? Were all those books wrong?
He changed his expression to a frown, though even then that looked a bit dead eyed and fake. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that." But what else was he supposed to say, then? He didn't know; he hadn't read enough literature to know. He'd read plenty of textbooks but those said nothing about human interaction unless it was clinical, like in psychology or sociology.
He wasn't even looking at him. He must have messed up really badly. Well, there was always a learning curve, he supposed.
"I would understand if you didn't want to be my partner."
