Lochlann was exhausted.

He did not want to be back here. He did not want to ever step foot on this stupid island ever again.

But here he was, back on the Manta Carlos, back at Starlight Academy. He felt like he was in a dream, but Lochlann didn't sleep well since the phone call the night before. He'd gone home for the holidays, back to the states, and he was ready to stay there.

Until they called. The police.

He was wearing jeans and a jacket too thin for the weather because he'd packed in a hurry. He had bags like thumbprints under his eyes and his hair was a mess, but it didn't matter. He didn't intend to even come back to the academy, but he needed to pick up his stuff from Cabel.

If there was any consolation to this, it was that he could drop off his holiday presents now instead of trying to mail them.

It'd been months and Lochlann hesitated. He knocked on her door.

"Emily?" he said.

Emily was busying herself in her dorms little kitchen making dinner when she heard the knock on the door. She heard someone's voice through the door, but couldn't really make it out through the muffle. Who could that be? it's kind of late...

Setting the knife down on the cutting board, she slowly stepped over to the door and let it swing open. There was a pause as she blinked at Lochlann, before her face quickly filled with blood as she remembered what he had done the last time she'd seen him. The feeling of his lips against hers became fresh in her memory despite it have been months ago.

"Eep!" she squeaked as she instinctively slammed the door closed and stepped back into her dorm. Ahhh, why did she do that, that wasn't polite at all, and now Lochlann was just standing there awkwardly she was sure. Even though these thoughts shot through her brain she didn't move to open the door again, instead just staring at the wood as she placed her hands against her warm cheeks.

What was she supposed to do now?

"Oh Hi em--" Lochlann said and then the door was slammed in his face just as quickly as it'd opened.

He deserved that.

He really wasn't sure what to expect. After all, the last time he'd seen her, he'd kissed her, promised he'd talk to her again soon and then....he was shipped off to rehab shortly after. It had been a while.

Lochlann slumped down next to the door and sat on the floor. He wasn't even sure what time it was. He didn't have his phone and he never wore a watch. He thought that, even though it was kind of late, it was still probably too early for Cabel to be back.

Lochlann closed his eyes. He could wait here for just a moment. Just a moment.

He didn't expect to fall asleep outside of her door.

Heartbeats past, then seconds, then a couple of minutes. Emily was still just staring at the door, unable to decide whether she should open it and apologize or just pretend she had never answered it.

She swallowed and shook her head a little to break her trance. This was dumb, it was just Lochlann, she'd made peace with this already. Forcing herself forward she released the doors latch once more. "I-I'm sorry... I didn't mean to-"

She blinked a couple times when Lochlann failed to appear in front of her, before looking down next to the door where he was snoring quietly. Once more time passed as she fidgeted around trying to decide what to do, glancing up and down the hallway.

Well... He couldn't just sleep there, right? Her small frame wasn't able to lift him fully, but she managed to drag him inside her dorm by his arms, trying to get him to the couch.

Lochlann was dreaming he was drowning the worst woman he'd ever met.

In this dream, Lochlann wasn't a horse. He was human. Somehow, that made the nightmare all the worse, because when he grabbed onto her and pulled her down to the bottom of the lake, he was holding her by the shoulders and she was holding him beneath the arms.

When he reached the bottom of the lake she started to pull him towards the surface, towards the light, and Lochlann couldn't stand that. He couldn't stand her seeing him as a monster even like this and--

Lochlann was moving. He flailed. His eyes were wide and he was gasping for breath.

Where was he?

What the fuck
how did he get to sleep

"Ahhh!" was the only thing to come out of his mouth and when he tilted his head back suddenly and saw Emily, his vision started to spin. "Emily! What are--where?"

About halfway into the room Lochlann suddenly started flailing and let out a scream. A startled Emily jumped back with another squeak, letting go of Lochlann in the process. She flinched a little as his body fell to the floor without her support.

"Oh... O-Oh no... A-Are you alright Lochlann?... I-I'm sorry... Y-you scared me and I j-just... Oh..." She hovered over Lochlann, not wanting to touch him in case it hurt him further, but not wanting to leave him alone either.

"I-I-I was just... Y-You fell asleep in the h-hallway and... I-I'm s-sorry... U-Um... W-What should I d-do..."

Lochlann let out a surprised yelp as the back of his head slammed against the floor. On the bright side, it numbed him enough that he wasn't flailing around amyore, but it meant he was resting on his back while looking up at Emily with a dazed expression on his face.

His vision was tunneling but he swallowed and managed to keep it together. He'd been through worse.

"Oh, umm," he said, because she was talking really quick and he was still trying to piece together the first few things she said. She looked like she was starting to panic so he said, "Emily. Take a deep breath."

He needed to think.

What was he doing here?

"I uhh...I came by to drop off your present. I was going to mail it but I'm back unexpectedly and thought I'd just drop it off on the way. Um..how are you?"

He said this while looking up at her on the floor. He didn't move once. Honestly, he was a little afraid to.

Emily was indeed slowly working her way towards hyperventilating. This wasn't exactly a common occurrence, how was she supposed to react to things like this. As Lochlann prompted her she wrestled with her breathing to get it under control.

It took a couple tries, but she managed to take a deep breath and hold it for a few seconds before letting it out. "I... I'm sorry, are you alright?... I-I didn't mean to slam the door in your face l-like that... It just... K-Kind of happened... d-do you need... Bandages, or anything?..."

Though a tad calmer now, she was still kind of panicking. It felt like she should be doing something, but she had no idea what that something would be. Eventually she settled for helping Loch off the floor and onto the couch. "U-U-Um... I-I was... Making d-dinner... Wou... Would you like some?... I was making t-tacos..."

"I'm okay," Lochlann said, although admittedly, he said this before he tried sitting up. The room lurched heavily to one side, as though he was on a teetor totter. He pressed his hand to the back of his head; it felt warm, but there wasn't any blood on his fingertips, so he figured he was okay.

"It's okay, I'm fine. It was just an accident," he reassured her. "I'm sorry for scaring you like that."

And shit, was he sorry. It'd probably have hurt less if she'd punched him. That made him smile for some reason.

"Oh, no, thank you," Lochlann said. "I just wanted to bring you your gift. I appreciate the offer though."

His stomach growled and betrayed him.

Lochlann had no idea what day it was or what time it was. Travel disoriented him.

"Do you need any help?" he asked her instead.

Emily fidgeted in place for several moments, feeling utterly helpless being unable to do anything. The tension was broken once Lochlann's stomach growled, and she poorly stifled a small giggle at it. "You seem to b-be contrad-dicting yourself, Lochlann..."

Skipping back over to the counter, she retrieved the knife she had been using and waved off Loch's offer. "N-No... I should b-be fine... I'm a-almost done, j-just need to finish ch-chopping the vegetables..."
