Kaz had not felt like this in a long time

He felt....

....like himself.

The changeling was lingering in the library, taking time to stroll through the shelves simply because it felt good to just walk and not have to wonder if he was going to need to sit down because he was so exhausted. He didn't have to worry about keeping a handkerchief for nosebleeds. Hell, even though his glasses were still in the case of his jacket, he didn't need them. Kaz felt freaking fantastic.

He didn't like the reason he felt fantastic: he'd betrayed someone he was starting to care for. But Kaz pushed the memory of Jake out of his mind and tried to focus on this, just this feeling of being alive. The young man was dressed normally--in his well-tailored uniform--though he did still have on the comfortable jacket he preferred even though he wasn't freezing. His sandy hair was pushed back away from his face and, though pale, Kaz didn't look sickly.

He also wasn't looking where he was going.

Kaz came around the corner of a shelf too fast and--tumbled right into someone.

"oh! I'm so sorry," he said, but it was too late.

Up to that point, Luke had been feeling less than one hundred percent. Lately, he'd been getting cryptic messages on his phone from his long lost brother. A brother whom Luke had thought was gone for good. As per his usual response, he ran and avoided the problem. He was currently entrenched in the academy library, wandering the endless rows of dusty books. Some of which seemed like they hadn't been touched in years.

There was a chill in the air, even though he was inside, although his slim frame didn't offer much in the way of heat retention. With a shiver, he pulled his slate grey hoodie closer to his body and moved the zipper upwards in a vain attempt to try and conserve heat.

He was distracted today, which wasn't much of a surprise. He boots padded quietly on the floor as he turned the corner. However as tends to happen when one is only looking at the ground directly in front of them, he failed to notice the other person who had rounded the corner at the same time. With a soft cry he fell backward and landed on his back. The book he had been absentmindedly clutching to his side slid out from his grasp and rocketed across the floor.

With a string of choice words muttered in Norwegian, he picked himself up and dusted his faded black jeans off. "N-no, I should be the one apologizing..I wasn't looking where I was going.." He mumbled as he once again found the floor terribly interesting, not even daring to spare a glance at the person he'd nearly been flattened by.

Several things happened to Kaz at once.

The first was this: He noticed the other boy was speaking another language, which sounded...Kaz couldn't recognize it, it happened too fast, but it was European and made Kaz wish for home.

The second was this: he noticed the person he walked into had grey hair, but appeared to be his own age, which thew Kaz off. He liked the look.

The third was this: Kaz's heart started to race because he liked the way this other man looked. He didn't know what to do with this. He'd thought other people were cute before, but that was just because Kaz could change his appearance when his magic was actually working, so he'd...just..want to look like someone cute, right? That's...that's all this weird fluttering in his chest was.

Kaz couldn't lie, but that thought felt suspiciously like a lie to him.

"No, please, it's my fault, let me get these for you" Kaz said, and he dropped back down to the floor and started to pick up the books.

"N-no you don't need to..I can get them!" Luke stuttered as he awkwardly tried to figure out what to do with himself. For the first time he raised his eyes to look at the other boy whom he had unceremoniously ran into. To say he wasn't attractive would've been a blatant lie, and in any normal circumstance Luke would've been smitten. However with everything that was on his mind lately, a love interest wasn't the first thing that was on his mind.

Luke shuffled his feet on the floor and hoped that he wasn't being too awkward. He'd had enough issue with people, and he certainly didn't want to be the cause of someone else's discomfort. He attempted to hide his eyes behind his hair by staring downward.

"I'm really sorry about all of this, I should be more careful." He muttered. The crushing feeling of awkwardness was almost consuming him. He felt incredibly small, and even though the bracelet locking away his ability was firmly in place, he unconsciously began to fidget with the band, unsure of his next move.

"No, really, it's okay, I'm so wrapped up in my head that I'm not paying attention to where I'm going," Kaz said.

Which was, apparently, why he didn't use past tense when he spoke. Because his hand touched luke's on the same book.

And Kaz felt...warm.

It was a lot like the sudden rush he got when someone was miserable, but that couldn't be quite right, because while Kaz could sense some small portion of misery on the other boy, it wasn't what was causing this feeling. It rooted itself in his gut, small and warm like a firely drake curling up inside of him and blowing fire across his face.

Was he blushing? He didn't think he had a fever. He shouldn't be getting ill! He'd just fed not too long ago! What the hell was wrong with him?

And why did it feel so good?

"I'm Kaz," he blurted out, and then tried to sound more casual and added, "By the way."

It was less casual than he anticipated.

What the hell was wrong with him?

"I'm Leucos..Luke for short." He muttered, his arms tightened around the books clasped to his chest. Luke was unsure of what to do, this was the second time he'd been cornered in the library, and the feeling of causing trouble for others was starting to eat at him. "You're always in the way, why can't you just be normal for once." He berated himself in his mind. Luke began to bite his bottom lip in his uncertainty.

"U-hm..I'm really sorry for running into you..I should really watch where I'm going.." He mumbled, hoping that he didn't look as pathetic as he sounded. Internally Luke was still beating himself up over the fact that he had inconvenienced someone else. That simple perceived thought was eating him from the inside.

"Uhm..I'll just..go. You're probably busy and I'm in your way.." He said with a quiver in his voice, almost as if he was about to cry. Abruptly, Luke turned and started back down a different aisle of book shelves.

"Luke," Kaz said. "It's uh, good to run into you."

Poor choice of words, Kaz ol'buddy ol'pal. What the hell was he doing? He flinched as soon as he said it, especially because Luke had picked himself up, apologized, and was taking off in the opposite direction.

And Kaz followed.

His brain came up with reasons he was following, but they all felt short, until finally he settled on one. Luke looked cute nervous, and that was a potential source for misery, and why should Kaz wait until he was feeling ill before he found his next mark?

That's absolutely all this was, he told himself, as he said, "Wait!" and very gently grabbed onto the other boy's elbow.

Sparks danced through Kaz's fingertips and he wondered if this was maybe the start of magic.

Fairy magic, of course.

"I feel really bad, you should let me make it up to you," he said. "Could I uh...get you...lunch or something, maybe?"

Luke jolted as he felt something halt his forward momentum. He slowly turned back around in time to catch his words. "O-oh..Uh..I-I guess you could..if it would make you feel better..that is." He stumbled through his answer, speeding up on the last few words in an attempt to mask his anxiety. It was at that moment Luke took a moment to seriously study the person who had nearly flattened him and then chased him down the library aisle.

He was well dressed, and cute, although he seemed like he was warm. "A-are you alright..you look a little red.." Luke said quietly, almost as if speaking to himself. He hoped the other boy wasn't sick. His skills in the medicinal area were lack luster at best. He fidgeted awkwardly in place and hoped he hadn't screwed up by asking such a direct question.

He bit his bottom lip once again in order to keep himself from saying anything else that might embarrass him further.

"It would," Kaz blurted out.

What the hell was wrong with him? Why all the blurting? And why would taking him for lunch make him feel better? Oh. Yeah. Because target. That's why.

"Oh, yeah, we should, probably...check your books out first, sorry again," Kaz said. He let go of the other boy's elbow, surprised he was still holding onto it. His face still felt hot and when the other boy called him out on it, Kaz reached up to touch his cheeks. He looked at his hand as though expecting to see war paint on it.

"Yeah, I uh...guess I'm just a little hot," he said, smiling at him in what he hoped was a normal, non-awkward manner. "Probably why I crashed into you then."

He was starting to get a grip on himself. Sort of.

"So what do you like to eat? It will be my treat," Kaz asked.

Luke nodded quickly and led the way back to the checkout area. Thankfully he had the route memorized as he practically lived in the Library most days. He breezed through the process of checking out his books as most of the Librarians knew him by name. Embarrassing doesn't even begin to describe the mess that is his life. He was frantically trying to figure out somewhere he could choose to go eat lunch that wouldn't annoy or infuriate the other boy.

In his frantic rush his mind and mouth both froze and he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind. "I-I'm okay with anything really..I'm still new here..so, I don't really know where everything is.." He trailed off, his uncertainty getting the better of him. Luke cringed at how helpless he sounded. "I might as well be a damsel in distress with how I act." He ranted at himself subconsciously.

Luke wrapped his arms around his midsection in a vain attempt to appear smaller. "So pathetic.." He thought to himself as he hopefully waited for an answer to his suggestion.
