"Great!" Kaz said.

He realized a moment later that he was still holding Luke's hand and he had absolutely no reason to be. It wasn't like he was actually holding Luke's hand, Kaz justified to himself. He was only really holding the finger tips. He didn't really know what it would be like to hold it. It was just to...uhh...get his attention. Yes, that was it.

Kaz ordered his rueben and a lemon water, opting for a side of mixed veggies instead of fries. He waited for Luke to order and tried to sort out these feelings, but they were uncertain and starting to worry him.

Kaz wondered if, maybe, it was some weird side effect from his misery having come from Jake. It'd never worked like this before, but maybe it was because Jake was a werewolf.

What was he doing in the library?

"Looking for cook books, actually," Kaz explained. "I'm not much of a cook, but my roommate just moved here from Hong Kong, and I wanted to learn more about what kind of foods they ate there. I thought it would be nice to try to have something that would remind him of home...only I have no idea what I'm doing."

Kaz gave Luke a sideways glance and said, "No chance you're good at cooking, is there?"

Luke was stumped on what to get. All of the food was so different from what he was used to. Instead of blindly ordering, he decided to play it safe. Luke ordered a simple grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and plain old water.

"They have cook books in the Library..? This place really is weird.." He thought to himself. He sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "I can't really cook..my parents never really taught me." He said quietly. Luke absentmindedly tapped on the book that rested in his lap. He was surprised something as old as it was had survived the his clumsiness. Although if it was still in one piece, he might just get it back to the librarian minus the repair fee.

"Cooking isn't really my area..I'm more of a musician.." He said, his voice still colored by uncertainty. Almost as if he was unsure of disclosing more information about himself to someone he had nearly run over and just met.

Kaz didn't seem to notice when the other boy tapped the old book. Well, he did, but Kaz himself was the kind of person to tap pens off his knee whenever he had one in his hand. At least he didn't click the tops over and over again; his ex-roommate used to do that and it drove Kaz crazy.

When Luke said his parents didn't really teach him, Kaz nodded. "Mine either. Well, I mean, they had me make golubki with them, they are these stuffed cabbage rolls, but that was mostly because they would make so many at once that they needed the help. And it's kind of hard to tell when you don't know what you're doing."

When Luke said that he was more of a musician, Kaz perked up. His interest in Luke increased. "Really? What sort of instruments do you play?"

"I-I play the flute.." Luke said hesitantly almost as if he was unsure he should be telling Kaz this. "I can also play the Lyre but.." He halted suddenly as he tried to suppress the memories of his father's disappearance and the time spent with him practicing on the family Lyre.

"Never-mind.." He muttered. Luke's thoughts turned dark as the emotions he harbored towards his family life rose to the surface. He shook his head as if to dispel the negative thoughts.

Luke scrambled for something to change the subject for the silence got too awkward. He settled for the old, ask the same question back save. "So..what about you...Do you play any instruments..?" He asked tentatively.

"That should keep him occupied.." Luke said to himself as he once again fidgeted with the book on his lap. The black leather was worn with age, and the title was nearly worn away. "I wonder how old this is.." Luke thought to himself absent mindedly. He then looked around the general area to see if there were too many people around.

Seeing as the area was relatively deserted, Luke slid the bracelet off of his wrist and relaxed slightly at the steady feed of background information that entered his mind. It was strange, he felt more at ease with the bracelet off, being able to sense those around him. Luke felt content for the first time in a very long while, and oddly enough, he didn't feel so uneasy about Kaz.

Kaz was intrigued by Luke's musical ability. It was a special area of interest for him, and he would have asked more but a sudden spike of blissful misery fueled Kaz at Luke's mention of the lyre.

He stored that information away. Don't bring it up now, save it for when you an get the most impact, was what he told himself.

"Do you still play?" Kaz asked. "The flute, I mean, here at the school? THe music wing here is wonderful. The practice rooms are great, and you can usually get one without too much trouble."

Kaz nodded. "The guitar now, mostly, though I used to play clarinet as well, but I hate the taste of the wooden reeds."

He wrinkled his nose at the thought of it.

It was easier to think of how gross the reeds tasted, because the guitar brought a small flicker of sadness through Kaz. But no, he wouldn't feel sad, he did what he had to do. Kaz squashed that feeling down.

Their food arrived, and Kaz grabbed both trays for them since Luke had the large book and brought them to one of the smaller tables. Actually, now that made him wonder.

"What are you reading?" he asked, motioning to the book in Luke's hand.

"Yeah..I still play but, I haven't been to the music wing..there are a lot of people there.." He said quietly. Upon hearing that he played the guitar, Luke was tempted to ask which type, and who made it. Although from the flicker of sadness that was gone almost as soon as it came, Luke decided to refrain from poking around where he didn't belong.

What was he reading? Luke looked down at the book in his hands and blushed slightly. "He'll probably think I'm a massive nerd for carting this book around.." He shyly glanced over at Kaz before replying. "It's the Poetic Edda..I-It gives me inspiration for songs somethings.." He said quietly, feeling more and more self conscious.

"Maybe I should've picked up the Prose Edda instead..Would that make me seem less weird.." Luke thought to himself, once again second guessing his actions. Luke shook his head slightly as he tried to dispel his negativity. However, he then noticed something strange. It wasn't just having the bracelet off that was putting him at ease. Kaz was emotionally calming. Which is something of a surprise to Luke as most people are carting around tons of emotional baggage.

Although Luke still didn't understand the random spikes of..whatever the emotion was. He couldn't put his finger on it. Luke mentally shrugged and decided to pay no mind to the intricacies of human emotion.

Kaz nodded. That was as good as a reason as any not to go to the music wing.

"You can reserve a practice room there for yourself," he told the other boy. "You just have to sign your name in a free time slot, and then it's all yours."

Kaz was partial to going to the music rooms to think, but he hadn't gone there since...well, Jake. Kaz must have been doing better because he just felt numb when Jake's name came to mind. He took a bite out of his sandwich.

Ah fuck.

Luke gave him this glance when he asked about the book and there was that feeling again. What the hell was it? Kaz didn't understand it, but he knew that he liked when Luke gave him that look. But why? Why the hell should he like it so much?

He realized he was smiling and Kaz decided to just let himself smile instead of analyzing it.

"The poetic edda?" Kaz asked, and he tilted his head to the side. "It must be really good if it inspires you. What is it about? I've never read it before."

Luke nodded his head in understanding. Maybe he would visit the practice rooms when he had the time. If no one was hanging around the sign up sheet, that is. Upon learning that Kaz had no idea what the Poetic Edda was, Luke gave him a look of pure bewilderment. "I-It's a collection of nordic poems and stories.." He said quietly, while he glanced shyly at Kaz.

"It..connects me to my ancestors..in a way.." Luke said, almost whispering now. His face was a wonderful shade of red as he blushed at how incredibly lame he thought he sounded. "Great, now he's probably going to think I'm completely weird." He lamented subconsciously. Luke absentmindedly picked at the sleeve of his hoodie as he squirmed in embarrassment.

He looked around the general area, trying to find something he could use to distract himself from his social failings. However, as he had found nothing, he was forced to confront the problem at hand. He briefly considered bolting off into the forest.

Naturally, he failed and what he ended up saying made him cringe internally.

"So...W-what's your favorite book..?"

UGH.
There it was. That glance again. Kaz felt his heart do a weird little skippy thing. Was he ill? Had he fed on Jake's misery too late? Did he already have some kind of strange heart damage? Kaz couldn't understand why it felt so good. It wasn't misery. What the hell was this?

He tried to stop analyzing it again and just enjoy it, but it was hard.

"Oh," Kaz said, tilting his head in thought as he considered what Luke said. Connecting him to his ancestors? "That sounds like it must be nice, to have a connection like that. Do you have a favorite story in the book? Or one that inspires you the most?"

He took another bite of his sandwich and when Luke asked him the question Kaz felt another weird little burst of whatever the fuck was wrong with him, because he liked that Luke just asked him a question.

Kaz decided he would go to the infirmary later.

"Is it bad if I say I don't know if I have one?" Kaz confessed, feeling suddenly ashamed for his answer. "I mean, I have read a lot for school, and I love the library, but I've never really read anything that makes me want to read it again and again."

He looked down at his lunch and then asked, "Do you have any recommendations?"

There was that strange feeling from Kaz again. Was he in pain? No..it didn't feel like pain. The signals were jumbled and conflicted. He mentally shrugged and tried to focus on the conversation. Luke glanced down at the book momentarily before bringing his amber eyes up to glance at Kaz. "I like the Voluspa the best out of all the stories.." He mumbled.

Luke momentarily forgot about the tales crammed in such a dusty book and took a bite of his sandwich. He swallowed before continuing. "It's just so..calming.." He sighed absentmindedly. Luke listened in surprise as Kaz told him he didn't have a favorite book. He was then further surprised when Kaz asked him for suggestions.

Luke blushed and fidgeted in place. "Well..what kind of books are you in to.." He asked shyly. Only making eye contact briefly before he went back to studying the cover of the book in his lap.

"I wonder what type of book he likes.." Luke thought to himself as he took another bite of his sandwich.
