Samael loved the taste of the fresh forest air on his tongue, his ears twitching at every sound made around him, both quiet and loud, following it back to its source. A mouse, deep in its home, a bird flying over. A stream of water not so far to his left. He was not here to hunt today though, despite not having been on one in a while. Perhaps he would ask his brother whether he wanted to go chase woodland animals someday this week, now that the classes were let out and summer was at its peak. Yeah, he would definitely do that soon, perhaps even as soon as he got back from his walk, he thought as his ears caught on the sound of some of the bigger animals roaming around.

For now though he moved in a direction opposite of them, not wanting to scare them into a stampede with his scent. He was simply out stretching his paws today, letting off steam build both during the school year and the days he had spent working (and not working, but arguing with his father about working) at the bar. Putting some distance between himself and it's possibly soon to be pray, he broke into a quiet run over the forest floor with no directions on his mind, simply running for the sake of a run.

I apologize for my thread title(s), I sometimes think I'm witty when I'm really not

Dreizel's head whipped to the source of the sound. He frowned when he saw only a bird emerge from behind the bush. He trudged on.

Dreizel has been lost for quite a while now. And though he might have at first said it was all right to get lost because he'd find his way sooner or later, at the moment, he wasn't so sure about it. Initially, Dreizel had wanted to see only nature around him because it would remind him of home. So the woods had been the place, naturally. What he didn't expect was that it was vast enough that once you'd traveled deep enough into it, you'd lose sight of the buildings of the academy.

It was foolish on his part to think that he still had the capacity to find his way. He had been stripped off of his powers after all and that meant he could not take flight to get an aerial view of his location or his surroundings. Dreizel might climb a tree, but thought against it.

After putting a calm to his worrisome thoughts, Dreizel closed his eyes and simply took a breath. When he opened them, he saw a cat-like creature from the distance and was temporarily distracted by it, as had all animals he had seen so far have done. He watched it gracefully cross the woods and moved to follow it, knowing that sooner or later he would lose sight of it.

Dreizel grinned in glee as he ran after the nimble little thing, shoes noisily thudding against the ground. He kept his eyes on it. It was beautifully marked with black on a silver pelt. So far, it was moving in a speed he could still keep up with.

It is quite alright. I do like it xD

There was a new sound added to the array of those Samael had been hearing ever since he had entered the woods, one that did not quite belong here, at least not this deep into the trees. It was easy to get lost in the woods though, he thought, as he slowed down and turned to see who exactly was wearing the shoes whose sound as they hit against the hard forest ground had given away whoever it was that it was following him.

It would not be the first time Samael had to interrupt his forest run to guide a lost student home. It was not a hundredth either, but it was not the first as well. Usually they were new, too eager to explore and uneducated in the things necessary for not getting lost in the forest, such as, for example, always keeping an eye on the civilisation, because the sight of school buildings which seemed quite tall at first was actually quite easy to lose.

He didn't mind it, though, helping these students get back, he thought as he finally set eyes on the human following him. It was better that he run into them and helped them back than a real animal which would most probably only helped them into their stomach, or at least into a quite a state of fear. Also, at least this time nobody was getting attacked, he thought as well as he took in the angular face and blond hair of the man following him, shuddering slightly as he remembered the last time he had run to somebody's rescue.

Shaking off those thoughts, Samael tilted his head somewhat as he contemplated turning back in order to see whether this student really needed his help. It was probable that the man was lost, but he had learned not to be 100% sure. Some people did, after all, know their way around the forest.

Ah, I'm glad to hear that. Uh, also, a quick reminder that Samael is a lynx right now, so he is sort of grayish? He only ever turns into a tiger when he is really angry/really needs it because it is panful

Dreizel came to a stop as the cat did. He watched it as he watched him, never leaving eye contact. He was curious about it, what it was thinking, what it was feeling. He'd never really interacted with animals much from where he came from. And if he did, they were usually winged and feathered.

And the strangest thing happened. The cat tilted its head as if in question or in thought. Dreizel continued to stare, wondering what would happen next. He swallowed, contemplating on talking to it. There was a probability it wouldn't understand him and he'd scare it away, but seeing as these woods were part of a strange island where strange students go to a strange school, the probability of the cat understanding him might actually be a little higher than normal.

"Hello," he said quietly and slowly, doing his best to project respect and amiability. He waited for a response patiently, a small smile on his face. He remembered what he should be doing and looked around at where they had stopped. The buildings still couldn't be seen from here and he had a feeling he might have followed the creature even deeper into the forest.

He turned back to the cat and decided to try talking to it again. "Um, I'm lost... Maybe you can help me find my way back to the school?" he asked, unsure. He hasn't gone so desperate to start talking to animals... Or maybe he has. The point was, he needed a way out and there was no one around. It probably wouldn't hurt to try speaking with an animal, betting that it could understand him. If it did, that was good because then he would have gained something from probably looking like a fool. If it didn't, then he simply had been a fool. Nobody was around to see so it wouldn't matter if he looked like one or not, really.

I see. My bad. I've edited the thing naw \O 3 O/

He had been right then, Samael though as he sighed, or at least did the closest thing a cat could to to a sigh. Yet another student had wondered too far from the school, and into the woods. It was a small sigh though. He didn't actually mind having to walk lost students back to school, he was only worried about what happened to those who did not run into him.

He had already been over these thoughts, however, and multiple times at that, so he simply shook his head once more as he got up, taking a few steps away from the man in front of him. He needed space to turn back if he was to do it correctly. Once he was far enough in his opinion, he allowed his body to move swiftly yet again, as it changed shape in the space of one single breath.

''Hello'', he then answered the man in front of him, making his voice soft and quiet as he knew that seeing him change could sometimes spook unsuspecting students, especially if they were knew. Or could spike their curiosity, he thought, as he remembered the odd friend he had made one day when he wanted to take a nap at a school yard.

''School is that way'', he continued to speak once he was sure that the other man was not going to jump out of his skin with fear. ''I'll show you back. It is really easy to get lost here. You should be more careful.'' He did not mean to preach a person he had just met, but the thought of somebody getting hurt in the forest weighted heavily on his mind.

Ah, it's okay, don't worry about it, I just thought I should mention it. Also, I just noticed how weirdly I worded that last spoiler, oh my god xD

Dreizel jumped when the cat turned into a man in front of him in a blink. It was surprising not only because the cat could turn into a man, but because the cat was also a man and had been able to understand him from the start. Dreizel felt the curiosity about all the other animals he'd seen so far now. Were they able to turn into men too? Were they able to turn into any animal they wished or could they only turn into cats? Could birds here turn into men also? He wanted to know.

The fallen angel smiled at the man when he offered to take him back and started to follow. He was reminded of his superiors back at home when he was told to be more careful, but he let it go. There must be a good reason that this man was scolding him. "Sorry," he said. "I'd only wanted to get away from the school for a bit... I guess you could say I like this scenery more."

He followed the man back through where they were ran quietly for a bit until his curiosity got the better of him. "So could you change into a cat at will?" he asked, his excitement showing in his voice though he had mostly contained most of it. "And are there others like you?"

So another curious one, Samael thought as he set a slow pace in the direction of the school, the man he had just met following behind him. Well, it is better than those who got scared and tried to run away, deeper into the woods.

''There is no need to apologize'', he said first however, feeling the need to warn this student hopefully without scaring him. ''I am just afraid those like you who get lost in the woods could get hurt too. If you wish for a change of scenery, make sure to find a road to follow, or somebody to guide you along'', he finished his warning, before addressing the question of his powers, yet again.

''Yes'', he said, answering the first question. ''I am a lynx shifter. And as far as I know, many, though not always lynx, and not always cat at all. Though there are those who are exactly like me too'', wondering how far would the questions go, Samael reached the conclusion that in a half an hour it would take them to reach the school, a lot of can be asked and answered.

Of course, of course! You should rest up! (Actually I should too probably, it's late here too xD) Good night, sleep well :D

Dreizel beamed, getting even more interested as he followed his new guide. He shrugged away the warning behind the other's concern. "Meh," he said, cocksure. "I'm pretty sure these woods aren't as harmful as the arena back at home."

He stepped up to walk by the side of the stranger enthusiastically as he continued his tirade of questions. "So there are men who could turn into birds as well? That's really cool!" He said, almost jumping at a thought. He turned to face the other, almost walking sideways now with wide eyes full of zeal. "Is it an innate thing? Or can other people learn to do it, too? Do we have to be from this world to be able to learn it?"

If he could learn it, it would be like getting his wings back. Plus, he could experience firsthand how a bird feels when it is flying. And he'd know how it felt like to be able to rotate his head in ways that he couldn't at the moment.

''There are not as harmless as students would like to think either'', he said, frowning a bit. He then had to stop himself from overreacting-it was true that other than in the forbidden parts of the forest there was nothing exactly evil among the trees. Just animals and easily confused roads. The part of the other man mentioning 'arena back at home' did not go past him, however, he quickly deduced that that was probably one of those things one should not ask about. Having spent his whole life on the island, he had developed a fine instinct of guessing and predicting which topics he should avoid with people, though sometimes it would fail him still.

''Yes, there are men who can turn into birds'', he said then, nodding his head as he followed the topic of conversation further from arenas and getting lost in the woods. ''There ought to be a few on the campus as well, though I don't think I have met any personally yet.'' His mother had thought him that shifters came in all shapes and sizes so to speak, with many other shapes which would be different to his own. Werewolves were the most common though, but that did not meant things such as bird and fish, mouse and lizard shifters did not exists.

''I am also afraid that as far as I know it is a matter of bloodlines. One must posses the right in order to be able to change his body into anything else.'' Though that could have been true just for his bloodline. Perhaps somewhere out there there was a way for those without blood to learn how to change, a training or a spell. He had never heard or met anybody who knew of that either, so the most probability laid with the theory that bloodlines were the only source of ability to change.

On the question of did one have to be from this world to be able to learn, he did not have an answer, and could also not bite his tongue hard enough to hold onto a question of his own. ''Are you not from this world?'', he asked, the world escaping from his mouth before he could remind himself that that was also probably something he should not pry about.

At hearing that the ability was passed on through blood, Dreizel felt a bit of his enthusiasm melt away. But he had been expecting that so he didn't feel as saddened. "Aw, that's too bad, I guess," he simply said. "I would have wanted to try that..."

He turned to look at the taller man when he was asked this time. "I'm not," Dreizel said with a nod. "I came from Planet Equilibrium. There's always a war there. Or rather, they are called Combat Games, but they're almost the same as a war, you know," he explained.

He wasn't so privy about his original world. It was factual and not something the felt he needed to hide from anyone. If he was to be privy about anything, it would probably be about how he had lost his wings as an angel. It was one of the reasons why he didn't ask too much about anyone's past, as they usually would also ask about his. As an ex-angel, he still wouldn't lie, even to hide his mistake. Sometimes however he could be too curious and he'd forget about his own rule and come the time they do ask, Dreizel would rather just change the subject and talk about something else instead.

And this conversation might lead to his past so he'd do the same now. Dreizel turned back to his new companion and flashed a smile. He still wanted to know about shape shifters after all and he wasn't going to let that subject drop any time soon. "So bloodlines, huh? Does that mean that your whole family could turn into lynxes at will?" he inquired, already imagining a whole clan become cats that looked like the one this man could transform into. Silver cats of different sizes, all with black marks on their bodies and the same green eyes. "I'll bet your family reunions get interesting..."
