RE: im going to fight the ENTIRE OCEAN [open]

"Look, unless you're secretlyyyy —" Elaborate, sarcastic hand movements, "— a serial killer looking to skin my carcass and fuck my sweet, supple underaged corpse, I'd be fine with going to your place even if it's a bit far. I can handle myself. It totally beats breaking and entering, yeah? I'll practice for a bit and I'll make us dinner. Sound good?"

It would be nice to make and have dinner with other people again. He was sick of just eating instant ramen and sadness.

Deith's grin became wider, much wider, with a sinister yet playful sort of look to it. He was trying hard not to laugh, that much was evident to his trembling lips, but Lei's sarcasm wasn't helping. It sounded wonderful, much more wonderful than having dinner. He wasn't going to say anything about that though. He wasn't a serial killer. At least at the moment. "Yeah," he replied, still struggling to contain some laughs. "Sounds good, it's been a while since... I had some homemade dishes... Hehe... You might want to put your clothes on first. Car's waiting by the road."

He snorted. "You're so creepy, dude."

Lei stood up, punching Deith playfully on the arm and started getting ready. He wiped himself off with his towel and pulled on his school clothes. God, the sand was just everywhere. He couldn't escape them at this point. He wrapped his hair with a towel and slung his backpack on his shoulder.

"Right. Ready when you are."

Deith turned around and motioned for Lei to follow. Honestly, he was really amused about Lei not treating him as suspicious. Lei would've been a perfect prey like this. Deith could feed and have fun, and nobody will ever know what would happen. But the young man was giving him too much laughs, he actually wanted to try being friends with him for real. Without the attachment of course, because that never ended well.

Just this once, I'll be nice. Nothing funny. Good thing I'm not hungry.

They were in his car just couple of minutes later. It was black, with some white tribal designs all over it. Inside, most of the parts were black as well, not much decorations. Deith started the engine and drove off at a steady and safe speed, eyes on the road, while continuing their conversation. "You can have a shower first before anything. I'm pretty sure you're still coveted with sand," he said.

"All right, but no more watching me because the ocean's fine but the bathroom is kind of creepy."

Lei had never been in a car before and it was kind of dizzying watching how fast they were passing by places. He wondered how city-goers made use of these machines without crashing into one another. He supposed he'd never know.

"So, why are you in this island? You a student here or something?"

"Nope." By now, Deith was already able to get rid of his grin, replacing it with a gentle and friendly smile. "I like this place, the views, the nature, so I decided to stay. It's peaceful too, and nobody here ever calls me..." a pause, "...a monster."

He was silent for some seconds, thinking about what be just said. It didn't really matter that people called him a monster, because he really was one, but being away from those mean people felt peaceful to him. "I'm just a resident. I don't really have any business here. Why'd you ask?"

"A new start, huh? Makes sense." Lei leaned against the window frame, thinking about what Deith said. He talked like a man with quite a past. Lei's life probably couldn't compare, but he understood well enough the feeling of wanting to run away. He was starting to understand the guy a little better. He felt a bit tender, it was disgusting.

"No reason. You looked like a student, but the kind that skips class to smoke near dumpsters." He snorted. "You'd have shit grades unlike me."

"I never went to school. Just kinda learned everything on my own." Deith made a turn to the woods and took the opportunity given by the straight road ahead to glance at Lei briefly. "Besides, who needs school with my age and experience? I never did need it. And... I don't smoke. I do drink blood for breakfast though." Deith laughed. He wondered what Lei's reaction would be, but decided not to let it get to him. "I'm joking, of course." Well, not really. But he might as well say it.

"Pffffffffffft." Lei laughed. "Sure you do, buddy. Personally, I like to skip the blood and go straight for the heart. God! Your creepy jokes are so weird."

The woods were a little creepy. No wonder the guy was so weird. He probably made a lot of 'cabin in the woods' jokes for the shock factor. "Do creepy things happen out here? I mean, I can appreciate wanting privacy, but damn. This is some real werewolf transforming under the moonlight shit."

Lei was most likely not going to laugh if he found out that Deith lied about joking. Deith just shrugged it off, though. "Creepy things, huh? Well of course they happen. It's Manta Carlos, after all."

They were by the entrance of the woods a few minutes later. Deith didn't drive into it, instead he went up a hill bordering it. The night was catching on them quick, the sky already dark by the time Deith stopped the car. They stopped in front of a two-story American-style house. The place was darker than the usual evening darkness, and somehow supported Deith's claim, that yes, creepy things do happen there. "They're pretty normal around here, creepy things happening, I mean," he said as he got out. He scanned the surroundings slowly, just like always. "...I'm here after all. It can't be helped."
