Practice makes perfect.

Lei doesn't have his mentor anymore, but that doesn't mean he's going to degenerate into worthless piece of shit. He attempted to hone his power everyday, usually at the pool, but the swim team seemed to have annexed that location with their washboard abs and hoards of fans indefinitely. Damn those perfectly sculpted monsters.

Therefore, Lei had no choice but to go to the beach after class and change into his silver swimming trunks, forced to practice at the ocean like a goddamn animal. Like most things, Lei hated the beach. What was the deal with sand and crabs? What was the point of it all? What creator allowed this monstrosity to happen?

Unhappy as he was, he waded a feet deep into the tides and began executing the movements he knew by heart. He couldn't get it right. He was unable to predict the rhythm of the waves, and what little he could do was made laughable compared to what nature was doing. Nature was terrible.

After a few hours of trial and error, Lei managed to make a few waves around him. He was so overjoyed watching the water move back and forth at his own will that he didn't see the huge wave coming right at him. It knocked him down. He fell backwards into the water, hitting his rear into some coral and consequently swallowing a mouthful of disgusting ocean water because he didn't have the common sense to close his mouth. He resurfaced in a few seconds, feeling like salt and sand... got everywhere. They just got everywhere.

He was furious. Despite the incredible heat, the ocean water around him began to freeze and turn into ice.

"What!? So now you're doing something!?"

He waded out of the water, leaving a trail of frozen ocean water behind him. Eventually, the ice he made too was swallowed by nature's waves.

RE: im going to fight the ENTIRE OCEAN [open]

There was something else Lei hadn't noticed. Somewhere in the distance, not that far of a distance, a tall brunette had been sitting on the sand, admiring the beauty of the water. Unlike Lei, this man had nothing to be flustered or frustrated about-- at least not at the moment. This was one of those afternoons when he just wanted to rest and wanted to be alone. He figured out soon enough that the latter wouldn't be happening today, but he felt very much compensated.

Deith's indifferent summer-green eyes caught sight of the unrest in the waters. And by unrest, he didn't mean the water itself, but the man in it. He grinned, amusement filling his system for the time being. Just sitting there and watching was enough for him to be entertained.

His grin soon enough became unable to hold the laughs he meant to control. He tried to be silent, and the force only made his stomach hurt. To the point where he had to roll and crouch and grab on something. What is that kid doing? Playing in the water... in silver trunks! Seriously!? His giggles lasted a few more seconds before fading away at last and letting him breathe once again.

Deith stood up, and decided to help out the poor guy, just for the heck of it. He brushed off the sand from his t-shirt and jeans, before walking closer to the water. He got there just as ice started to form. Oh. So that's what he's been doing. Another giggle passed his lips, his head shook for a moment, before he cleared his throat to get the young man's attention. "Good work with that ice."

Lei... wasn't crying. His eyes were just leaking a little bit. As he was limping and sniffling dejectedly out of the ocean, he saw a man he had never seen before near his clothes.

Fuck.

Holy fuck.

Lei reeled backwards and, fortunately, didn't trip this time. But he was incredibly mortified. Please, honest to Mountain God, he hoped the man didn't see his embarrassing display, but he probably did, because Lei's life is terrible and sought to punish him for existing at every turn.

He blushed three shades of red before pointing at the man with a shaking hand.

"You —" His voice cracked like a prepubescent boy. He swallowed, trying to clear his salty throat. "Your face is stupid."

.........

Deith was silent for a moment, processing out what the young man said. At the same time, he felt a nerve near his right eye twitch.

If he heard that in another context, it would really piss him off, but he understood that it was just the young man's defense mechanism playing, and he found that hilarious. He found that red face, and that shaking hand hilarious. He snickered, unaffected by the insult thrown at him, and mirrored Lei's hand that was stretched out. But instead of pointing back at him, he opened his hand, inviting Lei to join him in the shore. "I don't really care about my face. Now why don't you get out of the water? Your fall was pretty bad, wasn't it?"

His eyes were steady on Lei's. The color was the same. Even their hair color was the same. But this young man was nothing but strange and new and... strange.

Lei looked at the offered hand and the intensity of how the man watched him. He blushed. Sure, his ass hurt like hell, but he was a big boy and he could take care of his damn self. He stomped past the man, making sure to avoid eye contact because holy shit embarrassing, and plopped next to his belongings. He wasn't ready to call in quits just yet, but it didn't mean he couldn't take five for a breather.

He gathered up his hair and squeezed out all the water. There was a stick tangled in there. He pulled it off and gave no care about the mess of hair gathered around it, wincing a bit.

"I'll have you know that I'm the Chosen Jiu Zhu of the Cun People and I don't need your help, asshole." A beat. "I... well, unless you know how to control water too. But I'm not begging."

Deith's hand lowered. He didn't mind that it wasn't taken; in truth he thought it was better that way. He shrugged, and turned around to continue to watch the young man. The longer he kept that attitude, the more adorable he gets. Deith hadn't realized that their height difference was also big, though he realized it soon enough.

"I have no idea what those Chinese whatevers are... Those are Chinese, right?" he replied, both honestly and teasingly. This was fun. He never got to mess around with people like this. He was sure the young man won't be pleased but... Oh what the heck.

Putting the tease aside though, the brunette hopped closer. Control water, huh?

"I dunno about controlling water, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be getting angry at nature if you want to channel it."

Lei's face flatlined and he gave Deith the finger because of course they were Chinese you huge braindead dingdong.

"As far as I'm concerned, nature can go fuck itself in the ass."

After his angry, sharp statement, there was a long pause before he let out an exhausted sigh. Lei scratched the back of his neck and hung his head miserably. This dickbag distracted him from his misery for a few seconds (mostly through infuriating him) but now that his heart was no longer racing, he was back to feeling like crusty, expired shit. His eyes were tearing up again. Probably because of the sand or whatever — he totally wasn't crying.

He rubbed his eyes angrily and huffed. "Not one word."

Deith wasn't going to be told what he'd do, though he wasn't going to make this young man cry harder either. Well... maybe. He wasn't really sure he wouldn't make him cry, after all he wasn't really a nice person.

"Did you open your eyes in there?" he asked, as he pointed back to the water. He walked closer. This was probably going to be awkward. He took a handkerchief from his jeans' front pocket, and held it out to him. "Here. And how about taking a rest?"

Lei deliberated on the offered handkerchief for a few moments. The only other garments he had inside his bag were his school clothes and a towel, and he wasn't about to sneeze on either. But if he didn't blow his nose soon, it was going to start leaking. It was starting to get chilly out.

He sighed and finally took the handkerchief, blushing from embarrassment all the while. He blew his nose and wiped the sand and water from his face, finally feeling a little bit dryer.

"...Thanks," he said in a quiet voice. "Sorry I'm gross. I'll return this to you after I put it in the wash, all right?"

Lei plopped backwards, finally lying on the sand. It just caught up to him that he was tired as fuck. "A rest sounds like a good idea."

"Uhuh. Oh, and you don't have to return it, it's fine."

Deith sat down beside him, while maintaining a distance between them. It wasn't like he was happy the young man was calming down, he really didn't care, but keeping him company was a good way to kill time.

Some silence lurked for a few moments, with almost nothing but the waves to be heard. It's probably irritating for the poor guy. He cleared his throat again, and shifted his gaze to the side. "Name's Deith," he finally said. It wasn't like it was important for them to know each other's name but Deith was more than sure they would meet again in the next days to come. "It's strange that this is the first time I've seen you... I'm here almost every day."
