If I Had One Wish

Noelle smiled but her heart was saddened a little. She would probably never make a connection like that. She was too prone to raise her guard lock herself away in an icy personality.

"She sounds great. I'm sure your friendship is wonderful."

She let out a unheard sigh. There wasn't room for two girls in Maleks life. That was one thing she knew about all relationships. This time now was a one time thing and she's feel alone again. Immediately her guard went back up and she felt as cold as ice, if you'll excuse the pun. She just had the hardest time accepting people.

Although Malek was nice and she wanted to be his friend, she figured it was easier to cut it off now, so it wouldn't be so bad for her. She grabbed her back pack and looked at the time. It was getting late.

"Hmm, I guess I should head back now, it's getting kinda late and soon it will be dark."

Not that the dark bothered her. She had night vision. But she didn't mention it. She just looked forward to the wall back and being alone again. As always.

Noelle paused her gathering to listen to what he said. Leader of a clan? Purge? That must have been the bad thing that happened. And from what it sounded like his father blamed him for it. She pushed down her curiosity and pretended not to hear him. It was easier that way.

"Yeah. Well, I'm a senior in high school so I gotta be able to go to bed on time and stuff. So I can stay awake in classes. Oh yeah, sure, if we can."

That was really a not ever. She couldn't let such things happen. She let out another little depressed sigh and picked up her backpack, making sure her clarinet was tucked in safely. She looked out at the lake and promised to return soon.

She grimaced. She had wanted the walk back to help clear her head but at the same time she wanted to walk with him. The introvert and the extrovert seemed to war within her. She figured since she'd been out this long, she might as well have a little more company.

"Oh yeah, sure, I don't mind some walking company. She threw the backpack straps over her shoulders and pointed go the large building in the distance.

"My dorm is over yonder." She said, throwing a small smile in. She couldn't look depressed until she was alone again. Which was difficult. She didn't know she'd let it get the best of her so much. Maybe some day she could beat it. And did he say he slept outside? Sounded uncomfortable. She shrugged it off and started back on the path with Malek beside her.

She heard him yawn. Come to think of it, she was tired too. She couldn't wait to go to sleep and not have to think about stuff for at least seven hours. She looked at him upon his request.

"Sure, do whatever, I don't think it's weird. It's new but not weird. The longer I stay here the true that becomes."

She thought of the memories she'd made here at the school. Doing a gift exchange, meeting people, helping out in a freak storm that hit the island. If only she could continue to make good memories like that. With peopld.

Noelle watched curiously as he released the wings from their resting place. She was sure that if felt better. Sure enough, he said they had started cramping up. She wouldn't mind if he had let them out sooner. They were not particularly large but she thought they were fascinating and watched with interest as they curled and uncurled. That is till it curled right around her and pulled her in a little. She stumbled a tad before she was released. Malek definitely noticed and apologized. He was blushing madly, poor thing.

"It's okay," she said through a few giggles, "I think it was pretty humorous."

She looked up at the school again and it was closer. They emerged from the woods and were on school ground again.

"How far are you willing to escort me?" She asked. She didn't want to put him out of his way.
