I don't care what you think as long as it's about me

Lochlann thought the sad endings were a little more realistic.

"how is it different?" he asked, and then said, "oh! duh. I'll wait and see."

She brought the coffee back and he accepted it with a thanks and took another sip. He used the excuse of her movement to shift closer to her, tilting a little on his side so it felt like he was sharing more space with her.

"Is there going to be singing?" he asked. He sounded genuinely curious, not that singing would turn him off to the movie. Lochlann liked music. All of it. He'd never heard anything he'd disliked, and in his opinion, he had far too little music in his life.

But Cat was like a song and she was quickly becoming a melody he couldn't get out of his head.

"If you could be a disney princess, would you be Belle then?" Lochlann asked her. His understanding of disney was limited, but he nodded sagely when he said, "I think I would be Pocahontas. I'd even take the raccoon, knowing they smell like trash and all."

"It's different because the antagonist to the story isn't even that same. In the story she has brothers and sisters, the sisters are the antagonist. In the movie it's Gaston. I think he's probably one of the best Disney villain's but he isn't even in the original tale."

He leaned into her when she scooted nearer and she felt a flutter in her stomach. Caitlin tried very hard not to look sideways at him but was smiling foolishly all the same. For something to do with her hands, because suddenly she didn't know what to do with them, she cradled her coffee cup by cupping both hands around it.

"It's Disney, there will most definitely be singing." She did look at him now. "I hope that isn't a problem," she said as the credits ended and the opening scene came on, instantly into a musical. "Because if you don't like musicals you'll just have to suffer through this one," she laughed.

She was surprised by his question and an even more surprised laugh escaped before she could stop it. "Don't forget Flit! Pocahontas? Why it that?" Pocahontas was a very free spirit, of course, and wildly different from the other princesses. She supposed what surprised her was that he'd chosen a princess instead of assigning himself a Prince. "Ariel," she replied. "She's spunky and she knows what she wants and goes after it but she's also young and devastatingly naive. I'm not stupid but I know I can be a little bit naive sometimes. Plus...I'd get to be a mermaid. What little girl didn't want to be a mermaid when she grew up?"

Lochlann considered this.

"I thought brothers were usually the antagonists in these things," he grinned. He'd never seen Cinderella. Lochlann draped his arm over her shoulder as though there was no other place for it to be. The couch seemed at once both too big and too small to Lochlann.

"Singing is okay," Lochlann said. He settled back, getting comfortable, and then BOOM. Music scene. Lochlann did not grow up with television. Even when his parents bought the farm, it was a luxury they weren't interested in. They had a broken TV for appearances sake, but they never plugged it in--it was more convenient to just tell guests that it was broken instead of that they didn't have one.

So Lochlann was always delighted with movies. His eyes were wide and he took in the moving pictures with an unexpressed look of delight, much like a child might upon seeing them the first time.

Lochlann had never seen the little mermaid, or he might have chosen Ariel for himself. He would gladly trade his voice to be human.

"Oh yeah, i liked the hummingbird, he was cute," Lochlann said. He considered this. Why Pocahontas? He wasn't exactly sure what about her had resonated with him when he watched the movie. "She recognizes that, even though John's reactions to her ways are violent, he can be taught."

he was thinking of the scene in the colors of the wind song where John raises the gun towards the bear and when she lowers it, it had three cubs. Lochlann could never forget the taste of gunoil in his throat.

"Of course her curiosity pretty much got her entire family killed," Lochlann said. That was the more realistic part for him.

"Ariel?" he said. he was about to ask which one she was, but she filled him in when she said mermaid. "I haven't seen that one yet. But she sounds a little bit like you already."

He laughed then.

"My sister," he said. "She hated mermaids. I think she actually might have met one, but I don't know how. She was so small when we came over. I think she resents the idea of not having feet."

Lochlann settled in for much for the duration of the movie, but when the library scene came on, his eyes were huge.

"oh," he said. "I....okay, I can see why this one is your favorite. How can you not be won over by that?"

His arm draped across her shoulders and she instantly snuggled in against his side, drawing her knees up until her feet rested on the edge of the couch and held her coffee cupped close to her. It seemed natural to curl in against his side and somehow made her feel small and protected. Irony at its best that she felt protected by possibly the only creature she knew personally who she probably needed protected against.

"Not always, girls can be incredibly spiteful you know?"

She shook her head at his practicality. "We were talking about Disney. She doesn't get her family killed in Disney," she playfully poked at his arm. "We will watch the Little Mermaid next time, then. Do your kind..... not get along with other water creatures then? Or is it just your sister who doesn't fancy mermaids?"

Cat loved this movie but she spent much of the movie with her head tipped back, watching his reactions. She smiled when he was wowed by the animated library. "I'd like to actually see a library like that. I can't even imagine being so surrounded by endless opportunities like that." Her eyes turned back to the screen to watch the beast tell Beauty that if she loved the library then it was all hers. A smile touched her lips and she sought his free hand with one of hers, twining her cold finger around his, icy from the cold coffee.

"I think it's just my sister," Lochlann said, in reference to the mermaids. He considered this. "Fae is such a big umbrella term. It's hard for me to give examples. "

Lochlann considered this as he watched the two dance across the ball room.

After another moment he said, "I have a thing with unicorns and I don't know why. I don't think I've ever really met that many unicorns. But I feel general animosity towards them. I think I got that from my parents. So I don't know if that's all water horse and unicorns or just something I picked up from my folks."

Her fingers were cold and wrapped in with his. Lochlann tended to run warm, skirting the edges of being feverishly hot. Right now, Lochlann was feeling progressively hot. Almost a little bit too hot.

Lochlann took a deep breath and that's when the pain hit.

It hit him on the temple and spread outward, in tune, and Lochlann said, "Excuse me for a moment."

The headache that was threatening him for so long broke our just as the rain did outside. The musical number on the screen made him distracted. He didn't even realize that the loop of cord on his necklace had come untied and slid against the seam of the couch when he got up.

He stood for a moment and remembered about being honest so he explained, "Migraine. I'm going to borrow your sink."

Lochlann slipped into her kitchen and leaned over the sink. He held his head under the faucet and turned it on, letting the water soak is head. He closed his eyes and for a few moments, Lochlann felt the pain washing away, but with it came a trickle like the water running down the back of his neck. A trickle of..something else. It was subtle.

The pain abated quickly, which surprised him. It normally lingered. Lochlann didn't think about his necklace, though he should have. He didn't think about anything but sliding back onto the couch with Cat.

He did and leaned in close, resting his head against the crook of her neck, his damp hair brushing against her skin.

"I would like to whisk you away," Lochlann whispered to her. He wasn't thinking of beauty and the beast when he said this, even though his eyes were back on the screen.

She considered that both siblings had a viable dislike for a different creature without a real reason. Her thumb rolled over his hand in a thoughtful rhythm.

"I wonder if maybe you dislike them innately, as in natural enemies, predator and prey, that sort of thing. Even humans with no abilities at all, like my brother, occasionally meet people that they just instantly don't like without reason."

His warm fingers around hers and his arm over her shoulder felt natural and she closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling and the sound of Angela Lansbury singing Belle and Beast around the ball room. And then Lochlann took a deep breath and excused himself suddenly. As he stood and moved away Cat's hand fell to her lap and she felt the instant absence of his arm around her. She felt small curled on the couch alone looking up at him.

The space between her wide brown eyes creased with concern as he moved off towards her kitchen space and explained he had a migraine. She leaned over and set her coffee back on the end table, uncurling her legs from the couch, then turned back to watch him again. "Do you need an Excedrin? I might have some."

Nerves raced up and down her as she watched him wash his head beneath the faucet. Truly, seeing him with wet hair was something she'd not imagined because water was supposed to be so taboo for him near her. She was mesmerized by the beads of water that rolled out of his damp hair and clung to his skin as he moved back to the couch beside her. He rested his head down onto her shoulder, cuddling in against her neck, and his cold, damp hair raised goosebumps that raced in waves down her back and her arms.

Caitlin's hand rose and pressed to the side of his face comfortingly. Her fingers stroked across his temple, attempting to help soothe the sudden migraine.

I would like to whisk you away.

Caitlin laughed softly. "Whisk me away to where, Lochlann?" she asked, the amusement ringing in her tone. It didn't occur to her that his sudden shift in mood had to do with anything other then the shift in the mood of the movie. Her fingers continued to gently rub his temple in slow circles. His damp hair made her shirt wet and the goosebumps stayed but she found she enjoyed the nearness enough to remain still, cuddled close.

Lochlann looked and felt better when he was wet. Most people looked a little silly when they were soaked, but Lochlann's curls flattened and his green eyes seemed a little more vibrant.

He felt good. Really good. And Lochlann hadn't felt good for a long time.

But here he was, with a beautiful and intelligent woman sitting next to him. She smelled good. She was close to him. They could go anywhere together.

"I'd take you someplace beautiful," he said. His voice was low and quiet--as it should be, they were watching a movie--but there was a new lull in it, a new lilt like the ocean.

He said, "Do you want to know the most beautiful thing I've seen today?"

He was like a house cat, enticed by a flickering string, unable to separate the ability to hunt from the ability to play.

"You," he whispered, and he made a move, a subtle one, placing his hand on her leg.

I'd take you someplace beautiful.

Caitlin glanced sideways and down with her eyes, as if trying to see his face without moving her head from the place where her cheek nearly rested on his wet hair. Somewhere beautiful. She smiled. It was a sweet thought. She could imagine going somewhere beautiful with Lochlann. Maybe they should have hiked to the wild flower field today instead of watching a movie. Although, she reminded herself, he was injured so maybe not.

She settled in, resting her cheek fully against his hair, content to enjoy the moment just as it was. Something niggled at the back of her mind, though, and she could neither pin point what it was or shake the feeling.

Caitlin laughed softly at his cheesy one liner. If he weren't already known for corny pick up lines up to this point, she might have wondered at it. As it was, she was surprised by his hand landing on her leg, subtle but very much noticed. The warmth and weight of his hand on her thigh sent a wave of nerves and pleasure through her but....

coupling the bold move with their rules, she was more nervous then pleased all of a sudden. He'd told her she should make all of their first moves. Of course, he also shouldn't be able to do something she didn't want him to do...and she'd be lying to herself if she said she didn't want his hand resting exactly where it was.

Cat reached out and lay her hand on top of his solidly, effectively keeping his hand there. She was both keeping his hand on her leg where she enjoyed feeling it and keeping it from possible wandering.

"You're being very sweet for someone whose head must be splitting," she commented lightly. "Where would this somewhere beautiful be?"

"I can be sweeter," he said. His voice was low and soft, like he was responding to a challenge with self-assured confidence, like he'd been training for this his entire life. It was different from his default self-depreciation.

His head wasn't splitting though.

"The sink must have worked," he mused. He wasn't fidgeting or tracing circles on her like he might normally. His hand was still while he thought. "It helps, sometimes, but I think it's because I'm with you. I feel better when I'm with you."

Usually what helped was being submerged completely. Lochlann was oblivious to the rain outside. His eyes were only on her.

Where would this somewhere beautiful be?

"Let's go find someplace," he said.

I can be sweeter.

Chills raced over her skin. It wasn't the words. It wasn't even really the low, soft way he spoke. What suddenly gave her chills was the tone. Lochlann usually came across as restrained and cautious to her. He was open and flirty but not....seductive. The word came to her unbidden. Sure, he probably was supposed to be seductive given what his natural state was but with her he'd always kept that squashed down.

She left his hand resting on her thigh, her own remained over his, but she slid out from under his arm under the pretense of turning her body sideways to face him, drawing the leg his hand rested on up sideways onto the couch between them, the other leg crossed over that ankle and trailed down, foot planted on the floor firmly. It placed some distance between them without rejecting him completely.

"I'm glad it worked," she said, reaching up and pushing his damp hair back from his face, then letting it drop to her lap. She liked that he was he felt better with her. it's something he'd said before and it filled her with warmth. It made this sudden shift in mood feel just a little more natural to her.

"Aren't you a little bit too injured to be running off on an adventure searching for somewhere beautiful right now?" She grinned be she felt like it was forced. Something about this exchange, or maybe the mood shift, made her uneasy.
