It's been one week. And just as planned, Adelene was back in the hospital, in Dr. Hart's office, a paper bag of small cinnamon rolls and cheese bread in her hand as she went inside. It was still early in the morning, after all; she wanted to bring some food for the doctor, if ever he hasn't eaten yet.

She looked much better physically. She didn't look dull or dead anymore, since her worries for Lochlann has already faded with the assurance that he was going to stop taking sleeping meds. They've also made up, so that's good.

But she was more or less still troubled about many things. While she didn't worry about Lochlann anymore, she's started to feel confused with him. They've kissed. And Adelene felt both blissful and guilty, because she liked Leon, too, in the same way, and she was being torn by them. Aside from that, memories did start flashing before her in dreams, but they were still so blurred that she couldn't recognize anything. They confused her, instead of giving her clarity. And for some reason, she's been dreaming about Seth a lot. She didn't need that kind of dream, yet her dreams about Seth were the most vivid ones.

The meds were working, but not the way she needed, nor was it enough.

"Good morning, Doctor," she greeted. Her smile was like a small fluffy cloud in the clear morning sky, gentle and easy and small. She closed the door behind her. "I'm curious, do you eat cinnamon rolls?"

"Good morning, Miss Cross," Dr. Hart said. His back was to the door when she came in, and when he turned in his desk chair she'd be able to see that it was because he was trying to coax one of the kittens into drinking milk from an eye dropper. The process did not seem to be going well.

"I happen to love cinnamon rolls," he said. "What prompted the curiosity? That's not usually a question I get from my clients."

He gave her a smile, but his attention was still half on the kitten in his lap. With a sigh and a few more feeble attempts, he picked up the kitten and returned it to the box near the window. Aiden then strode to the small sink to begin washing his hand.

"If you would, have a seat," Aiden motioned to the chair across from his desk. "How are you doing this morning, Miss Cross?"

Adelene found it adorable that a man such as Dr. Hart, someone who gave off a very elegant and stern aura, had the adorable side filler with cats and kittens and his fondness for them. She chuckled, taking the man's offer to take a seat. She placed the paper bag on his desk, before putting her hands on her lap as she waited for Dr. Hart to come back from the small sink.

"I brought cinnamon rolls and cheese bread. It's still early, so I thought I'd buy some in case you'd accept them for... breakfast?"

She was obviously much better, though not fully recovered. Adelene gave a little shrug, before bringing out her empty bottle of the medicine Dr. Hart gave her.

"I'm feeling better, Doctor, if that's what you wanted to know," she answered. "But... I haven't been sleeping well. So I'm a little lightheaded right now."

Aiden's face lit up at the mention of breakfast.

He glanced at his watch, too, because Aiden had honestly not checked the time in a while. He had no idea if it was breakfast time or lunch time, only that he was still in the block of time dedicated to paperwork.

"That was very kind of you," Aiden said, sitting down across from her after he'd turned the coffee maker on. "Thank you."

He helped himself to one of the cinnamon rolls and took a bite, giving an appreciative nod as he chewed.

When she started to speak, Aiden pulled out a clipboard from his desk drawer and started to jot down some notes.

"Would you attribute the sleep disruption as something the pills caused, or are there environmental factors?" he asked. He elaborated, saying, "How are things at school going? Work?""

"I don't really know," Adelene sighed. "I was hoping you can help me determine for sure what's wrong."

She tapped on her lap for a few moments. Where to start, where to start? There were definitely things in real life that she's been worrying about, but her nightly troubles were nightmares not only about those, but also about random things. Things from the past, and things she didn't even know if they were real or her mind was playing tricks on her.

"School is fine, work is fine, but... let's just say that... I know these two people and being with them confuses me." She felt her face warm up. She was not here for some goddamn advice about boy troubles, and she was embarrassed to let Aiden know, but she had no idea where to start. "It's probably contributing to the stress. I'm also... having nightmares every night. But I have no idea where some of them came from."

She turned to Dr. Hart from the table. "What were the pills supposed to do to me..? Because I don't think it's been working right, Doc."

Aiden nodded and listened.

When she mentioned the two people in her life, Aiden arched an eyebrow, but didn't offer any advice on the subject. He made a note on his clipboard, just in case.

"This is the hard part about magic and medicine," Aiden sighed. "Normally, I would tell you to ignore your dreams, because dreams are just random images produced when your brain works to store information and events from the day. Despite years of science, we don't know as much about sleep as we'd thought."

Aiden glanced over to the kittens for a moment, and then took a bite of his cinnamon roll. It was positively delicious, and he savored every bite.

If he had a bigger conscious, he might feel worse about Adelene's roll in his plans, but Aiden's conscious was like a fossilized skeleton; the framework of it remained, enough to tell you what it'd been like, but nothing substantial to learn from.

"I think what we're going to do is increase the dosage," Aiden told her. "The nightmares may actually get worse, and for that I apologize. They will get worse before they get better. It is my interpretation that the nightmares are there to discourage you from remembering the past. Consider them the dragon guarding the proverbial treasure, if you will."

The coffee maker chimed, but Aiden didn't get up yet. He looked at Addy with a thoughtful expression on his face and said, "Miss Cross, can you tell me about one of your dreams? Whichever one seems most vivid, or most frequent?"

Adelene wouldn't argue; she agreed dreams were supposed to be... not so important. But she was curious about the ones she can't recognize and wouldn't it be nice to just find out what they were?

She cringed. She didn't want the nightmares to get worse before they can get better. She was afraid that it might be painful. But she expected the conversation to lead to this matter. Increasing the dosage.

Her lips curved to a small frown, her eyes trailing away in thought. They landed on one of the kittens, and decided to keep watching. "I usually dream about this person that's been chasing me," she answered. Seth was a big part of her life, she couldn't help it. "I've been seeing the accident from when I was eight, too. And... There's this vast rose garden with a kid in a distance. He kinda looks like me but I never got to see his face up close so I'm not so sure."

Aiden should have been writing this down, and he would, but not yet.

Instead, he stood up and approached the coffeemaker. He pulled out two mugs, real mugs, not the styrofoam cups the hospitals were so fond of, and filled them both. He made her coffee the same way she had the other day and then returned to the desk. He slid one cup across from her and took a sip of his own.

"I see," Aiden said. He sat down in his chair again.

He opened his desk drawer and slid her another bottle of the pills.

Same amount, higher dosage.

"This person who sort of looks like you...does this person run away when you approach them?"

The coffee appeared in front of her, and quickly later on a new bottle of the meds. She eyed both for a moment, even though her stare looked empty. She took the mug first and took a cautious sip, smiling approvingly at the taste and turning it to Dr. Hart. "The coffee is wonderful, thank you." She set the mug down, before taking the medicine bottle, only to put it down again in a corner.

She tried to recall her dreams as best as she can. The struggle showed with how her eyes squinted in the process.

"He... He doesn't run but... he quickly turns around and walk away, and then sometimes he disappears to the trees ahead," she spoke softly as she tried to replay the most vivid images she saw. "I get closer and closer though. Last night, it felt like he was already in my reach... but I woke up just before I can catch up."

She released a sigh, one that was obviously caused by all her frustrated attempts to catch the boy in her dream, and by the stress she's been enduring because of those restless nights. She shook her head and took a few sips from her mug.

"Does that even mean anything..?"

"Often, it means you're getting closer to uncovering something," Aiden said. "Do you know what you will do if you catch the other person?"

Aiden took another sip of his own coffee. After the night he had, this moment with Adelene was a welcome relief. He hoped for her sake that her progress went well, but, for a moment, Aiden hoped he would see her again next week. He jotted down a note in his planner that probably looked very doctory since his handwriting was illegible, but really, Aiden was making a note to remember to bring baked goods to work.

"Think about what you will do, say, or feel when you catch this person during the daytime. Think about it before you go to bed. Visualize it as much as possible, and then see if you can dream it," Aiden said. "Does this sound like a plan, miss cross?"
