RE: Everything's Fine

"Cool."

Tyler whipped his head up and looked at Adam in surprise. "Really?!" He exclaimed happily, and gave him a genuine smile. He got a dorm. Even better, he got someone who actually wanted to room with him! 'He's only being nice to you because you're new. You do know that, right?' that little pessimistic voice in his head said, effectively making him deflate. He bit his lip and looked back down. If it were another new student, Adam probably would have made the same offer to them...

"Who do you need to talk about your powers to? I might have already met them."

Tyler was snapped out of his thoughts by the other's voice. Luckily, Adam seemed to be so preoccupied with stopping his random fits of laughter that he probably didn't notice Tyler's brief pity party. "Oh! I, um, don't actually know who I should t-talk to, actually," he mumbled softly, feeling a bit embarrassed. He virtually knew no one on this island. So far, Adam was the only person he actually talked to so far!

"I guess anyone who could, um, get me some kind of power nullifier o-or something," he continued, his dark blue eyes looking down again, "or anyone who has experience in, um, teaching people how to contain their powers. Do you, uh, know anyone like that?"

RE: Everything's Fine

"Well, I am still kinda new here so I'm not really that acquainted with everyone, but I do know a place where we could, you know, maybe get a nullifier," Adam offered. He could see why Tyler would need one. It was crazy funny how everything else seemed to be getting funnier and funnier, especially during those times Tyler looked directly into his eyes. Adam just decided to look at the point between his forehead so he wasn't actually making eye contact.

"Come on," Adam said, motioning for the other to follow him as he turned to leave the Admissions Office. "There's this shop downtown that sells potions and other magical knickknacks. We could ask if they have a nullifier in there. Oh, and don't worry about making anybody else too happy. It's still kinda early."

He shoved his hands in his pockets as he walked and glanced at Tyler momentarily. A lot of things still seemed real fun to look at and sent tickles up his spine, but the urge to laugh randomly was more controllable now that he wasn't always looking directly at Tyler. That wouldn't stop him from glancing at the other like he would normally at a conversation though. "So your powers... It's rad, you know," he said, not suspecting at all that he was mostly wrong about it. "I understand why you'd want it to get toned down, but it's pretty rad. You didn't have to be so shy about it. A lot of kids here are actually pretty open about what they have, and trust me, some of them have stranger powers so you shouldn't worry about yours too much."

"There's this shop downtown that sells potions and other magical knickknacks. We could ask if they have a nullifier in there. Oh, and don't worry about making anybody else too happy. It's still kinda early."

Tyler frowned, confused. What did he mean by 'making anybody else too happy'? What was he talking about? He shook his head and followed Adam, still puzzled about his statement.

"So your powers... It's rad, you know. I understand why you'd want it to get toned down, but it's pretty rad. You didn't have to be so shy about it. A lot of kids here are actually pretty open about what they have, and trust me, some of them have stranger powers so you shouldn't worry about yours too much."

Tyler stopped in his tracks and nearly laughed out loud. Instead, he settled on a wry chuckle. He got it now. Adam thought he had the power to make other people happy. 'If only,' he thought as he hurried after Adam, whose smile was starting to look much more normal now that he wasn't looking at Tyler directly. 'Is this why he offered to be my roommate? Because he thought my powers were rad?' he wondered, idly staring at the burns on Adam's neck (he felt curious, but not curious enough to pry). 'If that was the reason why, then he should probably ask someone else,' the small voice in his head was back, already making him question his friendship (was it even really or was he just assuming things?) with Adam.

"I think you've got it all wrong," he said softly, a small amount of bitterness lacing his voice. "My powers... they're not rad or anything," Tyler continued, looking at his shoes as they walked outside of the building and into the school parking lot. "In fact, they're the exact opposite." He didn't elaborate further because when he looked at Adam, he saw his warm eyes and kind smile. "My powers, they-- you know what, let's just go to this magical shop." Tyler walked ahead of Adam, feeling ashamed for even thinking ill of such a good person.

After a short while, they were out of the school.
