After leaving the school, Adam and Tyler found themselves walking through the city, with Adam making small talk about a lot of things. Tyler listened idly and replied only when necessary at first, but ten minutes into their conversation, he started to open up to Adam. As it turns out, they both shared a love for DC comics. They actually spent five minutes arguing about who was better, Green Lantern or The Flash.

'This feels... nice,' Tyler thought with a small smile as Adam animatedly listed down all the reasons why Green Lantern was way better. It's been a long time since he'd had such a lighthearted conversation with anyone. Sure, he had a few friends who helped him get through the... incident, but they never really truly understood him. They didn't have powers or anything. In fact, when he tried to tell Bobby, his best friend at that time, he looked at Tyler as if he had grown a second head. Tyler shook his head a bit and looked up at the clear blue morning sky. 'The past is in the past,' he thought, 'and I came here to start a new life. Everything will be fine.'

He looked back down and abruptly stopped. His eyes widened in panic. In front of them was a crowd. People were everywhere. Businessmen were rushing to work, young people were entering and exiting cafes, children were playing on the street. They were in the heart of the city, and majority of its inhabitants were waking up. 'No, no, no!' he thought in panic. Just three minutes ago, the streets were almost deserted with few people around them. ;Where did this crowd even come from?!; "Wait, Adam!" he called out to the taller boy and grabbed his arm.

Memories of all the people he met and made insane, temporarily and permanently, came rushing back. He saw his cousin screaming and bashing his head against a wall, calling out for his dead mother. He saw his neighbor scratching and clawing at his own skin until it bled, claiming that he could feel the worms underneath his skin. He saw his own mother screeching and slamming the vase into the back of her husband's head, taking her son into his arms and whispering crazed promises into his hair. Tyler was aware that he was on the verge of having a panic attack. His breathing was turning ragged and the grip he had on Adam's arm grew tighter and tighter with each image.

Tyler bit his lip and tried to control his breathing. 'Panicking will only make your powers stronger. Don't. Panic.' he forcefully reminded himself. "C-can't we, um, go through a l-less crowded r-route?" he suggested, looking at Adam pleadingly. He can't go through this crowd. He can't let any one of them see him. He can't.

Adam was just about to add one, or ten, more reasons why Green Lantern was the better dude when Tyler stopped him. At the touch, he felt something giddy grow inside him. Like something struck his funny bone and he had to wince, but instead of pain and numbness, there was elation, and instead of wincing, he had to laugh.

When he looked at Tyler, he felt it multiply tenfold. Adam burst out laughing. Everything was much brighter now and even more colorful for some reason. He felt high. High enough to look at something as simple as the sky and see a burst of mostly blue hues flowing into each other and making weird shapes. And it was good. Not just the simple kind of good but it was good. Adam had no words for it. He was too caught up in his euphoria to bother with words.

And then he saw the people ahead. Or rather, moving things that made his world tilt and burn with impossibly bright colors. It hurt his eyes. He could feel his eyes getting sore from forcing himself not to blink, but it felt good. Too good to want to blink. And those moving things, they were making him itch and happy to no end. Or rather, there wasn't any sort of happiness. They were just really funny-looking and so he just kept laughing.

They turned to people in a blink and Adam felt the need to just mingle with them. He felt that a simple word would make them just as enthusiastic to talk to him, or a simple gesture would get them to pay attention. He felt like he could do anything. He could probably climb the top of that Obsidian restaurant over there Beastboy-style in his lizard form. He could probably jump as high as Kon-El does that one time he lost a major percentage of his powers and do multiple back flips like Nightwing does. It'll be awesome.

Some sounds invaded the vision. They almost seemed distorted, but Adam had understood them. When he turned to look at Tyler, an itch to want to burst into hysterics overcame him again. But the fear and the anxiety in Tyler's tone sobered Adam up a little.

"C-can't we, um, go through a l-less crowded r-route?"

And suddenly Adam remembered why he was feeling like this. It was Tyler's power. For some reason, he'd lost control of it and it affected Adam. He didn't know why Tyler lost hold of the reins, Adam was still too 'high' to connect it with his friend's sudden panic. It took the scarred man a while to get out of his happily-drugged state and form a decent reply. "Sure," he said. He grit his teeth to stop the cackling. He still couldn't speak straight though. Some chuckles and snorts would interrupt his speech. "You gotta... you gotta tone down first. I can't... concentrate on the road like this."

Tyler's eyes widened in fear when Adam suddenly burst out laughing. His breathing quickened, and his eyes flitted around them nervously. Adam's laughter was going to attract attention. His laughter was going to make people stare, to make people look. He can't have people looking at him. Not here where he was supposed to start a new life. Not now when he was supposed to learn how to be in control. He took a deep breath, reining in as much of his panic as possible.

"Sure. You gotta... you gotta tone down first. I can't... concentrate on the road like this."

He smiled in relief and loosened his grip on Adam's arm, feeling calmer after his scarred friend managed to reply. They still had a problem though. Adam was only barely stopping himself from laughing out loud. He couldn't even get a sentence out without chuckling or snorting .

Tyler looked at Adam, saw him laughing but without any real joy behind it, and felt guilty. 'Maybe if I told him about my power earlier, we could have avoided all this,' he bit his lip for the nth time that day and sighed quietly. He knew his power was dangerous, yet he kept it a secret from Adam, the person who approached him and offered him his help and friendship without asking for anything in return. He was friendly and warm, and his smile showed as much. It was obvious from the first time Tyler saw him. He blinked. 'Saw... him?'

Suddenly, Tyler was struck with an idea. "Don't look at me. Just lead the way and I'll follow, but don't look," he instructed Adam softly. The traveling psychic told him that his powers worked through sight. So if his powers only worked when Adam could see him, then all he has to do is look away.

"Okay," Adam said as before he turned around. Almost immediately, the unnatural laughter dissipated. Soon, he felt right as rain. It was then that he figured out how Tyler's powers were induced onto a person. "Oh," he drawled, almost turning to look at Tyler again. It felt weird not being able to look at whomever he was talking to, as it was more or less a sign that he was listening and interested in conversation. "I think I see now how your power comes to affect people."

And he understood why Tyler would need a nullifier. With these random bouts of extreme inducement on whoever saw him, the place was definitely going to turn into a madhouse. A happy madhouse. A happyhouse? It wasn't even just a house.... A happytown?

"All right, let's go around the main road," he said as he walked towards a smaller path behind the buildings on the main road. He turned his head to see Tyler from the corner of his eye following him. "So your power works by sight, huh? That's nice..."

Because then, that meant if anybody was having a particularly bad day, then all they had to do was look at Tyler and they'll feel the happy this walking Happy Drug possessed. Although, Tyler seemed a little scared of crowds though. Adam imagined it must be like for him to walk into a room and have everybody suddenly bursting out in laughter. That must feel... offensive, if not lonely. "Hey, if you look at a mirror, would you feel the euphoria people feel when they look at you?" he asked curiously as they walked a less known path. It was also out of the way of the main road and wasn't a particular short cut to anything so they were pretty safe here till they got to their destination.

Tyler felt his panic recede as he followed Adam away from the crowd. He smiled, feeling really grateful that his new found friend understood, even a little.

"Hey, if you look at a mirror, would you feel the euphoria people feel when they look at you?"

Tyler smiled bitterly at his question, knowing Adam wouldn't see it. 'He still thinks my power is making other people feel happy...' He knew better than to blame Adam though. The blame fell entirely on him. "Not everyone feels... happiness at the sight of me," he said quietly as they turned a corner. "In fact, I think you're the first person whose reacted to my power like that."

Tyler knew that he was dancing around the topic, but he can't help it. What would Adam think of him after he knew his power? Would he avoid him? Would he pity him? Tyler bit his lower lip again. He didn't want either of those things to happen. He didn't want to be seen as the freaky boy who could make anyone insane, nor did he want to be seen as the pitiful victim of an unfair life.

He stared at the back of Adam's neck, at the visible burns. He glanced at his wrapped hands and thought of the long scar on his otherwise handsome face. Maybe, just maybe, Adam would understand. Maybe he wouldn't push Tyler away or look at him with pity if he knew. "My power's are, um, unsavory," he said uncertainly. 'That's an understatement,' Tyler thought wryly as they turned another corner. "I, um... I could..." He broke off with a hesitant pause "I have the ability to basically make other people insane. Literally." There, he said it. He pulled at his sleeves and waited for the other boy's reaction.

"Not everyone feels... happiness at the sight of me. In fact, I think you're the first person whose reacted to my power like that."

"Really?" Adam asked with a raised eyebrow. He was confused now. So Tyler wasn't a walking happy drug? Maybe it's not just happiness then. Maybe also satisfaction, sadness, fear and other things... And maybe it's different for everyone? Adam listened a little more as Tyler explained, then putting the whole truth of his power out.

It took Adam a while. He blankly stared ahead as he let it process. "Ohh," he drawled for a few seconds before he frowned and stopped in his tracks, his drawl still stretching out.

"I have the ability to basically make other people insane. Literally."

So all that time Adam was feeling euphoria... that was his insanity? His eyes widened. That was his insanity?! He turned to look at Tyler. He managed to stare at the other for a few seconds seriously, though with great effort on his part, before he couldn't take it any longer. Before he could erupt into hysterics again though, he managed to turn away. It took him a moment to disperse all the unreleased hysterics.

"Oh," he simply said before he looked at the ground. His insanity was something like this. Why, he didn't know, but he knew a lot of other people out there probably had it worse. Suddenly he wondered what kind of life Tyler has been living this whole time if he affected everyone who looked at him. And to think, there were worse types of insanity out there. Dementia, uncontrollable rage, schizophrenia... The list could go on.

"I'm sorry to hear about that," he said as he viewed Tyler via his peripheral vision. Surprisingly, Tyler wasn't affecting him as badly as to make his insanity uncontrollable. Now he understood why Tyler was scared of crowds and why he urgently needed a nullifier. He understood Tyler's reaction to when he first saw him and his confusion at Adam's first bout of laughter that morning. "I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to... Anyway, let's go get you that nullifier fast. The faster we nullify your powers, the better you'll feel about, well, everything."

Easily making friends, talking to people in general, walking amongst a crowd, looking someone in the eye without anything happening to their mental balance. All those things people take for granted. He wanted Tyler, his newest friend, to be able to do all that. He pushed forward, now with determination in his gait. Soon, they reached the front of a shop called Blades & Potions.

Tyler stiffened when Adam stopped in his tracks. 'This is it,' he thought anxiously as he prepared himself for rejection, for Adam to suddenly make an excuse about having to go somewhere and never return, for Adam to call him a freak. He clenched his fists and tried to keep calm. He kept his eyes on the ground, not noticing Adam staring at him. He waited as Adam kept silent for a long while.

"Oh."

He clenched his fists tighter and bit his lip. Will it be rejection or fear or pity or acceptance? 'Just like the Wheel of Fortune,' the voice inside his voice whispered cynically, 'only this time the chances of getting bankrupt is 9 out of 10.'

"I'm sorry to hear about that."

There was his answer. Pity. He's still going to be seen as poor little Tyler who can't control his powers. That wasn't what he wanted. He wanted to be seen as a friend, as someone who could do things other people could do so easily, like maintaining eye contact and being part of a crowd. He wanted to be normal. He didn't want to be treated differently. He closed his eyes shut and gave a quiet sigh of dismay.

"I can't even begin to imagine what it's like to... Anyway, let's go get you that nullifier fast. The faster we nullify your powers, the better you'll feel about, well, everything."

Tyler opened his eyes and looked at Adam's back in shock. 'Wha-?' He heard the determination in his voice and saw the resolve in his stride. He can't believe it. Did Adam still want to be friends with him? Did he still want to help him, stay with him, be around him? Even after knowing how dangerous he could be? He stood frozen in his place and watched Adam walk away with single-minded determination, and then he laughed in relief. It felt as if he could float, as if the invisible chains holding him down had dispersed into thin air.

"Wait up!" Tyler called out, happiness lacing his voice, and ran after Adam. 'I'm fine now,' he thought happily and with new found confidence as he caught up with his friend, 'Everything's going to be fine.'

Adam's head was reeling. How many people have Tyler made insane? How many times has Tyler suffered being the only person who probably wasn't affected by his powers? How long has he had it with him? How did Tyler even cope with all the insanity around him?

It explained why he would be a shut-in and afraid. And Adam truly felt sympathy for him. He couldn't even begin to imagine how it was like, but he knew it must be painful.

He looked up at the shop they stopped in front of, Blades and Potions. It was easily distinguishable from the rest of the shops because it was made to look like one of those stores one usually saw in olden times. There was a large signage at the front where the shop's name was displayed in fancily-forged metal. It was beautiful, made to be so even more because Adam was a sort of geek about these things.

"Here we are," he announced. "I don't actually know if they sell anything here other than blades, but I figured they might have some nullifying potions or at least magical trinkets, you know."

He stepped up to enter the shop. The interior was amazing, and it promised the same Middle Ages feel that the front presented. It was Adam's first time entering the shop so he was impressed by the authentic feel to it. He let his eyes roam the entirety of the interior before he saw the aged man behind the counter.

"Welcome to Blades and Potions," the white-haired shop owner greeted warmly as they stepped closer to the counter. "Feel free to browse. We offer an array of weapons here as well as potions. We also take specific requests."

"Do you have any potion that nullifies power here?" Adam asked the man.

"Here we are. I don't actually know if they sell anything here other than blades, but I figured they might have some nullifying potions or at least magical trinkets, you know."

"So cool." He whispered in awe. Tyler's eyes widened when he saw the building in front of him. It looked like something from the Middle Ages. When they entered the shop, he gasped. "Awesome." He exclaimed quietly as he took in the interior of the store. It looked like something from a MMORPG, except better. Weapons lined the wall and potions filled different shelves around the shop.

Tyler was even more in awe when he saw a huge old man behind the counter. He was probably more than six feet tall. He looked around the shop again, leaving Adam to talk to the old man who was probably the owner. He wandered around the shop a little, glancing at the different weapons. There were axes, maces, swords, bows, spears, he even saw a scythe.

He kept looking around until he saw a wall displaying lots of daggers. "This is so cool," he murmured under his breath, staring at the different designs of the hilts and the blade itself. 'Woah, an anelace dagger!' He picked it up. It's blade had a dark blue tint and the hilt was pure black with a simplistic design. Tyler was so in awe, he barely heard Adam asking about potions that could possibly nullify his powers. He stood there in front of the daggers, waiting to hear the old man's answer.

"Ah, as of the moment, we don't have any of that. I can mix some up for you, but I don't know how long it'll take to get the mixture right," the shopkeeper said apologetically.

"Oh, I see," Adam said. He pulled out his wallet and gave the man his card--an old one he still used back when he was working as a 'blacksmith'. "If you do get any, will you let me know? I'll give you my number and you could send me a text."

"Sure, I'll do that," the older man replied as he took the card with a much bigger hand. "Feel free to check out our other products, yeah?"

"Of course. Thanks," Adam said with a nod as he turned to get Tyler. Adam had heard Tyler's quiet murmurs and grinned, knowing that even if they came here to find nothing that could help Tyler's case, his friend at least enjoyed the blades here. The raven looked pretty interested with a certain blade, too. Before Adam could get far from the counter, he turned back again and quietly asked the shopkeeper how much that blade in his friend's hand cost.

It wasn't cheap. But Adam figured that Tyler might like it as a gift. Adam quietly handed over the payment for the blade before he thanked the bigger man again and made his way to his friend. "How do you like your newest blade?" Adam asked as he stepped to stand beside the other. "I'm serious, that's yours now. I took care of it."
