"Is that even for real??" she snickered. Picturing Lochlann with pink nails was bad enough; toenails were unbearably hilarious. "What happened to his hair then? Tell--"

"Tell her," Lochlann threatened, "and I will make you regret it."

He glared at his sister and held Adelene tighter to him. His sister was smirking and she winked at Adelene, mouthing, 'Ill tell you later' and Lochlann glared daggers at her.

He felt better with Addy in his arms.

When she said, any cravings, Lochlann whispered, "You."

He didn't realize he'd said it, and his sibling's didn't appear to notice. It was only loud enough for Addy to hear.

"Where you going to say 'bar'?" Lillianna asked. "Because i know i'm under 21 or 18 or whatever the age is here, but I don't need to drink."

Lawrence nodded.

"We looked at a few places after we arrived, but we've only eaten at the hotel. Do you have any that you recommend, Adelene?" Lawrence asked her.

For some reason, Lochlann could not stomach the idea of trying to eat food and stop Lillianna and Lawrence from spilling all his childhood secrets to his best friend. He could not stomach the idea of doing almost anything with his family. He had a hard time placing these uncomfortable feelings.

On one hand, Lochlann wanted to return with his family and leave this whole damn island behind. He'd wanted desperately to return to them for almost two years. On the other hand, he knew that if they found out what he'd been up to, they'd kill him.

He wanted this to be quick.

At the same time, he wanted this night to go on for a while.

"Why don't we go some place that makes a good reuben?" Lochlann asked. He squeezed Addy's side. "Would that be okay with you, angel?"

He didn't mean to call her a pet name in front of his family. Lochlann didn't even realize he'd done it. THe word slipped out as easily as it did when they were alone.

Adelene was like a doll while Lochlann was keeping her close. But as he pulled her even closer, she began nudging him on the side so he'd at least loosen his hold.

Why did he seem like he didn't want her to be so close to Lillianna and Lawrence anyway? He was the one who brought her here to meet them. It should be fine, right?

Her heart skipped a beat. She heard him, she heard that he just said he craved her. And damn her for being reminded of their shared kisses, damn her for remembering their dinner night, damn her for suddenly feeling like she was going to melt. Damn her because she wanted him, too.

"R-Reuben sounds good," she said with an approving nod. She was trying to step away from Lochlann now, because there was no way she'd let him hold her like this the entire time. Not while they were with other people and not if he was going to keep whispering suggestive things to her. It was getting embarrassing. It was a real hard task to act and look normal now; hopefully her face didn't just turn red... "Uh... Loch, do you know a place?" she asked, but she can't look him in the eye this time.

Addy was nudging him in the side and it took Lochlann a moment to realize he had something of a death grip on his best friend. He loosened his hold, but was concerned when she didn't quite meet his gaze

"Uhh..." Lochlann said, chewing the inside of his cheek. "Reubans.."

Lillianna cast a worried glance at Adelene.

"Are you okay, Adelene?" she asked. "Lochlann wasn't trying to cop a feel over there, was he?"

It was a joke, but Lochlann's face flushed none the less, and Lawrence laughed at him. Lochlann shot a dirty look at his siblings and then said to Adelene, "What about that bar that we went to for your birthday? They had a pretty decent menu, they should have reubans, right?"

"I'm alright! No worries, Loch doesn't get away with stuff like that." Adelene laughed, albeit awkwardly. What she just said wasn't entirely true, because she can count many times Lochlann's managed to touch her and she could get herself to do anything about it. She never really minded. And realizing that fact alone was enough to keep her embarrassed.

"Bar?" she shot Lochlann a thoughtful look. She hasn't been in that place for quite a while now, but he was right, they definitely had a good menu and delicious sandwiches. Surely they had reubens. "Oh, yeah, they probably do. Their sandwiches are huge, too. And they have good non-alcoholic drinks. Mm." She nodded, seeing that they've most likely made up their mind on where to go.

The thought of her boss probably being there made her smirk. Since it was daytime, he probably wouldn't be there, but it was still place he often visited. "Loch, what if Kranz sees you?" she teased, before laughing.

She turned to Lillianna and Lawrence after that, stepping away from Lochlann even more. She clapped her hands together. "It's not that far, and I swear it's a good place," she assured them. "We can get there in a few minutes... If you're up for a short walk?" She remembered Lochlann was allergic to iron, which meant it was better not to take a taxi. She wouldn't know about his siblings, but all the same walking was a better idea.

Lillianna laughed.

"Alright Adelene, but be careful. Lochlann had a reputation for wandering hands...I can't imagine that's improved much since he came here," she said, winking at her.

Lochlann wanted to shoot his sister a dirty look, but Lawrence drew his attention in with another question.

"Who's Kranz?" he asked, but whether he was asking Adelene or Lochlann wasn't sure. Lochlann shuddered at the thought.

"If Kranz is there, I'm going to rely on you to save me," Lochlann told her. He wasn't sure why she'd put the distance between them, but Lochlann couldn't really blame her. He tucked his arms into his pockets and tried not too fidget too much.

"A walk is fine with me," Lawrence said, and Lillianna and Lochlann all nodded. The group headed down the street and to the bar, and Lochlann was more than happy to be moving. Usually, it helped clear his head, but all he could do was worry about the distance between him and Addy.

Things had been tense for a long time now, and even though they kept repairing the damage, he wondered if she'd ever look at him the same...or if she'd ever look at him the way he looked at her.

he swallowed and picked at the stitches on his hand. he'd probably have a scar from this.

When they got to the restuarant, Lawrence and Lillianna headed inside to get a table, and Lochlann told them he'd be inside in a moment.

"Addy?" he asked her once his siblings were gone. "is...is everything okay?"

Adelene of course filled Lochlann's siblings in with details on who Kranz was, the he was her boss from work and that he hated Lochlann and intentionally adds a 'd' at the end of their brother's name all the time. But she didn't tell them why.

When they got to the bar, she told the two that the second floor was much more spacious than the first, and so asked them to reserve a table there, once she realized Lochlann had something to say. She wasn't sure she was ready for any serious talk though. She had been doing her best to keep the air light and casual.

"Of course," she answered, smiling at him. It was a lie. She was tired and near sleepless, and she was still confused and bothered over her thoughts about Lochlann and Leon, separate and together. There were dark circles under her eyes if Lochlann would just look closely, and she was trying to hide them with some light concealer and face powder. It's also her first time to attempt wearing any form of make-up that wasn't lip balm.

She didn't want to ruin this day by looking sick.

If he meant everything between them though, then her answer was probably not a lie.

"Is something bugging you?" she asked. Of course it would trouble her to know that Lochlann was bothered by something, as always. She hoped he was okay now. She hoped he wasn't hurting himself again, or getting himself in a mess. Most of all, she hoped he didn't worry about her.

Now that he had Addy to himself, Lochlann realized that he wasn't entirely sure what to say, or how to say it. He stood here for a moment with his hands tucked in his pockets and studying her features.

Finally, Lochlann just sighed and leaned against the door.

"I feel like I fucked things up too much and I miss you," he told her. "I want to have fun with you, but not if we're both just pretending."

Lochlann swallowed, and then regretted it. His throat was still raw and he hated that, even right now, with the woman he was falling in love with, he wasted a molecule of his thoughts thinking about Her.

"I'm worried about you, Addy," he said.

He held out his bandaged hand like he was offering her something, but Lochlann didn't know what he could give her.

"I don't like thinking that you're hurting.

This. This was exactly what Adelene didn't want. Serious talk. Hearing Lochlann being concerned about her, feeling that something must be wrong. She caught herself just before she could frown. So she was able to keep it inside, hidden by a smiling mask. She was still trying to keep the heavy air low.

"I'm not pretending. I don't know about you though," she said, closing her eyes briefly as she pushed her hair behind her right ear. But even though her mask was well-made, she can't look at Lochlann in the eyes while speaking, even if she tries. "You sound like you're pretending, Loch. I should be the one getting worried. And I am. You always look like you're hurting." At this, she can't help but drop the smile. She eyed his hand, confused, unsure of what that meant. She didn't know, so she didn't do anything either. She just... stared. Before eventually shrugging it off and looking back to his face again. "Don't you think you've got this the wrong way? I should be the one telling you all those things."

Lochlann was actually relieved when Addy dropped the smile because he was starting to feel like he was the only one who cared.

She still wouldn't look at him and when she did, Lochlann was quick to try and turn the hurt on his face into something more neutral, but he couldn't figure out what.

He was still holding his hand out and when he realized she wasn't going to take it, he dropped it and stuck it back into his pocket.

"I am hurting," he confessed. "But I hurt less when I'm with you. And hurting doesn't mean I can't worry or care about you."

He swallowed.

"But you won't even let me try. I feel like you're shutting me out. THings don't have to go back to the way before, i understand that they can't, but I'm tired of feeling like you're walking on eggshells, or that you can't tell me anything, or that we have to pretend."

Lochlann wasn't even sure what he wanted. He knew he wanted Addy, but he didn't know what to do to fix this situation. When had all his relationships become so...complicated?

When you slept with Guinevere Haze, something in his mind whispered to him, and Lochlann stuffed that down deep.

"You take care of me all the time. Let me take care of you, too," he whispered.

Adelene laughed. But she was quick to stifle it by covering her lips with a hand. She didn't like how it sounded. It was like she was about to laugh hysterically because of... pain. She was actually so confused, not knowing why she was down and depressed. As if everything contributed to it even though there was no reason why.

"Funny, because..." Only one thing was clear. "...I've been restless mostly because of you. How can you take care of me?"

She shot him a look, but quickly looked away again anyway. She didn't want to be talking about this. She didn't even know if she had the right to be feeling terrible. "You're the one drifting away. A lot is happening with you and I can see it, but you won't tell me anything." She crossed her arms. And a frown on her face slowly became more and more obvious. "Are those words really for me, or for yourself?"

She was hurt. One reason was that she felt like she wasn't important enough to Lochlann for her to have a right to know what's wrong. Thinking about it, she realized all this just keeps bouncing back to Lochlann anyway. This conversation had nowhere to go. Sighing, she turned around and began to walk inside. "Let's not keep your siblings waiting too long."
