"Is that even for real??" she snickered. Picturing Lochlann with pink nails was bad enough; toenails were unbearably hilarious. "What happened to his hair then? Tell--"
"Tell her," Lochlann threatened, "and I will make you regret it."
He glared at his sister and held Adelene tighter to him. His sister was smirking and she winked at Adelene, mouthing, 'Ill tell you later' and Lochlann glared daggers at her.
He felt better with Addy in his arms.
When she said, any cravings, Lochlann whispered, "You."
He didn't realize he'd said it, and his sibling's didn't appear to notice. It was only loud enough for Addy to hear.
"Where you going to say 'bar'?" Lillianna asked. "Because i know i'm under 21 or 18 or whatever the age is here, but I don't need to drink."
Lawrence nodded.
"We looked at a few places after we arrived, but we've only eaten at the hotel. Do you have any that you recommend, Adelene?" Lawrence asked her.
For some reason, Lochlann could not stomach the idea of trying to eat food and stop Lillianna and Lawrence from spilling all his childhood secrets to his best friend. He could not stomach the idea of doing almost anything with his family. He had a hard time placing these uncomfortable feelings.
On one hand, Lochlann wanted to return with his family and leave this whole damn island behind. He'd wanted desperately to return to them for almost two years. On the other hand, he knew that if they found out what he'd been up to, they'd kill him.
He wanted this to be quick.
At the same time, he wanted this night to go on for a while.
"Why don't we go some place that makes a good reuben?" Lochlann asked. He squeezed Addy's side. "Would that be okay with you, angel?"
He didn't mean to call her a pet name in front of his family. Lochlann didn't even realize he'd done it. THe word slipped out as easily as it did when they were alone.
