“It’s true, I am not one of the field mice like my best friend before me,” he said, teasing her. “But with all jokes aside, being tall doesn’t help when there’s so many people. And it’s not like you’d be right on my back so…”
Loclann trailed off. It’s not like he could explain that piggy back rides with him could be fatal without having to explain all the other stuff. If he was being really honest with himself—he wasn’t—Lochlann just wanted to an excuse to touch more of her. He was hurting, he was scared, and he didn’t want to lose the one good thing he had in his life. He wanted to hold her and not let her go, and fall asleep with her in his arms.
But he wasn’t honest with himself. The second he started to feel vulnerable he squashed those emotions down. His hand itched for his flask, but he’d left it at home.
If she glanced up at his face, he’d be blushing, and he might also look a little bit guilty.
“I’m pretty sure I can smell the brisket,” Lochlann said. He teased, ”Addy what do you see with your hobbit eyes from all the way down there?”
