"Oh yeah, I remember now. You said it's romantic,"

Lochlann shifted a little.

"I still think it's romantic," Lochlann said. "I mean, it's kind of romantic now. We're up here, we have this amazing view, and when the fireworks go off it's like there's no one else in the world except for you and me."

It took a full thirty seconds for Lochlann's face to turn completely scarlet.

He started to laugh, but now it didn't sound much better than Addy's.

"Sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

Absentmindedly, one of his hands had found her knee, and was tracing small patterns across it. The little bit of contact he had made him desperate for more.

"It was a fun night, wasn't it? I'm also happy I'm with you right now, Loch. At least I got to know you're recovering. I guess I can finally sleep well tonight."

He gave her knee a gentle squeeze.

"You should sleep well everynight, angel," he said. "But I worry about you, too. You're always on my mind when we're not together."

This teasing made Lochlann hope that the actual exploson was going to be awesome. They wouldn't do so many teasers unless it was going to be awe-inspiring, right?

"I think... I think I can start liking fireworks like this. It's a prettier memory than the last time."

"What happened last time?" Lochlann asked, and then frowned, because he hadn't considered the question. He chewed on his bottom lip and then opened his arms, looking up at Addy, inviting her to come and lay with him.

Adelene's face burned much quicker than Lochlann's. It was true, it felt so romantic at the moment, and she wouldn't deny it made her happy. Really happy. But at the same time, she was really embarrassed.

She's having a romantic night with her best friend.

She flinched when he squeezed her knee, and then absentmindedly held his hand. It would only let Lochlann know how cold hers were, because she was nervous, and her heart was racing, and all the blood in her system was going up her face.

Lochlann was saying really embarrassing things.

"C-Can you hear yourself, Loch? You're... embarrassing me, you know. Maybe you should rephrase those a little..."

He opened his arms for her and she regarded it hesitantly, but as always, it seemed so inviting, especially when she knew she always felt secured in his arms. She fidgeted with the sandwich in her hand, before she put it back in the bag and lied down where Lochlann wanted her to.

"Grand fireworks... People cheering... Explosion from the west... Seth... Destruction..." she muttered, pretty much summarizing what happened the last time she saw fireworks. "...People died because I was there."

Now she needed his arms more than anything. Thankfully she had them.

"C-Can you hear yourself, Loch? You're... embarrassing me, you know. Maybe you should rephrase those a little..."

She came into his arms and she felt cold, so Lochlann rubbed her arms and her hands, thinking about what she said.

He should rephrase them, shouldn't he?

But.... He didn't want to.

"I don't think I will rephrase them,"Lochlann said. "There's no one else to hear them except for you, and that's all that matters."

She was in his arms and his body had completely relaxed now. Her effect on him was stronger than any drug Lochlann could remember taking. Without thinking, he pulled her a little tighter, nuzzling her neck while she shared her painful memory to reassure her that he was with her.

"He's not here now, no one is dying tonight," Lochlann whispered to her. "It's just me and you. We can create our own memories, to take back what we lost."

It wouldn't replace it--he'd never want to replace anyone he lost. But he did want to make something new, make himself believe that things might get better.

"My life is already better, because you're in it now."

The fireworks began in earnest now, with a few bursts crashing over the sky right above them, drowning out the sound of his heart hammering in his chest.

It was so confusing and... it was so difficult to believe that Lochlann was saying these things to her. They sounded like... like words a guy would say in a romance movie to a girl he loves. The idea sunk into her slowly, and as it did, her heart raced even more and rampaged in its cage. He rubbed her arm, held her closer, nuzzled her, and she snuggled back in return, clutching his shirt by the chest.

He'd hear her breath because they were heavy.

"Just... me and you..." she repeated as she pondered what those words could really mean, and she looked him in the eye, searching for an answer.

Was it wrong that she felt special emotions for him, were they just confused, or was the right?

"Lochlann..." The mystery was so excruciating. Beads of tears formed in the corners of her eyes, though it was mostly caused by emotions she couldn't contain, not that she was sad or anything.

The fireworks were lighting up the sky already, and they weren't stopping. She briefly glanced at the display, wanting to etch it in her memory, before looking back at Lochlann again to add to that memory that it was Lochlann with her now. She wasn't alone in a crowd and she wasn't targeted by the man she always feared. Instead she was alone with someone dear.

"...are you saying you..?"

She was looking in his eyes, her gaze was searching, and Lochlann let her look. She'd already seen how low he could sink, and she came back, so he wasn't afraid to let her see the want in his eyes.

Well, that's not true. He was terrified that she'd seen the want and go running in the opposite direction. That want was more than something he had for his other friends. It was confusing, and it was complicated, because it was Addy.

"I'm saying that I'm not very good at keeping my promise," Lochlann said. The fireworks were going off, bathing them in colored light, and Lochlann could see the halo of them reflected in her crimson eyes. He cupped her face in one hand, brushing his thumb across her cheek to rid her tears like he'd done before.

"I know you want to just be friends, and that's okay, but I have...I have feelings for you Addy, and they scare the hell out of me because I've hurt anyone I've ever felt like this for, and now they're all dead, and I never want to lose you Addy."

He hesitated, listening to her breathing and the racing of his heart even over the din of the fireworks.

"But you don't have to do anything about them. I'll never mention them again. I just--"

Before he could lose his courage, he tilted his head and kissed her, pressing his lips to hers while the fireworks went off above them. He put everything he couldn't say into the sensation of her mouth against his.

She looked confused at first, wondering what promise he was talking about, but that look in her face gradually faded as he kept on speaking, and his words just... melted her whole brain and body until she couldn't understand them anymore.

Only his kiss snapped her out and brought her back, and she flinched at the contact but...

It felt right.

A tear escaped her right eye, streaming down her face, but she didn't even care. She closed her eyes, before moving her lips and leaning closer, responding to Lochlann by kissing him back and embracing him around his neck.

She wanted to stop being afraid of her feelings, and she let herself drown in this wonderful sensation, with Lochlann holding her close and kissing her. She couldn't even think of anything else at the moment. She was just so happy, too happy, that her chest started to hurt more. She'd move her lips, and even though she was absolutely inexperienced, it didn't even matter because... it felt so beautiful anyway.

She eventually broke their contact, and slowly, everything was coming back to her. The roof, the festival, the fireworks... Yet she was still so fixed on Lochlann's eyes, and her lips were curved to a very small smile. "Lochlann..."

Suddenly she remembered Leon and... suddenly her heart was ripped into two. They were both special to her, really special. She somehow felt like she was going to regret this but...

...she took a few breaths and kissed Lochlann again anyway.

The best part about kissing Addy was that Lochlann did not have to think.

He just had to feel.

Normally, he hated to feel. He pushed anything emotional down and built walls up around it, fortified them with drugs, booze, and casual sex, and tried to protect himself by remembering that he was a monster.

But he didn't feel like a monster now. He just felt....normal? Complete? It was like kissing her was fixing part of him that he'd broken. There was no water around them (Well, they were on an island, but immediately around them) and Lochlann didn't have to worry that this was just part of some deep seated urge to drag her into a lake and rip her to shreds.

Did he?

She broke away and said his name, and he'd been about to ask what when she kissed him again.

Lochlann closed his eyes and melted into it.

This was the very sort of thing he wasn't supposed to be doing, but it felt so good.

The kiss lasted for... Adelene didn't even know. Lochlann wasn't pulling away, and she wasn't pulling away, and it felt like forever but at the same time it felt so fast...

The fireworks stopped and the downtown crowd cheered and Adelene flinched, breaking the kiss for the second time. Her head was swirling, everything felt so hot and surreal and wonderful...

It was sinking into her and oh god, she was embarrassed.

A very soft whimper escaped her, and she quickly buried her face into his chest. Her hands were balled to fists, and they gripped on his shirt again. What was Lochlann even thinking? She didn't know and it tortured her, but in a whole other way.

Never mind the girls she was jealous of, this thing they were doing... It was only the two of them, right? Was Lochlann this romantic to everyone? She didn't want to think so.

"Lochlann..." she called again, much softer, and she refused to reveal her awfully red face. "...what happens now..? Because... I..." I like you very much but I'm still afraid. "...I have no idea how this works..."

When she broke the kiss, Lochlann felt like he was coming up for air after a long swim. It was refreshing, but he wanted to dive back down for more.

He felt her grab onto his shirt and he held her, kissing the top of her head, his breath coming in needy, ragged pants.

That had been great.

"Lochlann..." she called again, much softer, and she refused to reveal her awfully red face. "...what happens now..? Because... I..." I like you very much but I'm still afraid. "...I have no idea how this works..

"Nothing," he told her, his voice just as quiet. He didn't let go of her, didn't try to tilt her head back up. He just kissed the top of her head. "Nothing has to happen now, angel. "

It didn't stop him from wanting it to.
