Shay was precious, and her first reaction, that adorable bubble of laughter and the way she melted into his cuddling, meant the world to him. "I didn't have to, no… but I
wanted to, and that's what counts, sweetheart." He would've appreciated it all more, but he knew once the blindfold was off, she'd start getting swarmed by everyone lurking around, with an merciless, good intentioned zest. And the first, bafflingly enough, was his boyfriend, and one of his favorite possessions, Mikhainon.
He was as dramatic and glamorous as ever, that was for sure! Mikh loved to make an impression. Klaus placed a reassuring, protective hand on Shay's shoulder as they had their little interaction, though he didn't interrupt it. He knew better than that. There were some things she needed to experience for herself. The gift appeared to be glorified stalking magic, which Klaus found absolutely hilarious. He muffled a laugh over the thought of what his daughter would get up to with her new toy. He gave his lover a nod. This was a good move.
Klaus backed up a bit and grinned at Sherry, one of his newer daughters, when she came over to him. She was a little angel, if he was being honest, and he was glad to have her in the family. "Aw, c'mon, let's be real. Did you ever doubt me in the first place? I'm the best at cool, kiddo. Coolest dad in the universe, even." He pushed up his sunglasses, letting them glint in the sun, to signify his point. Which was likely that he was ridiculous, but nothing if not fun. Klaus reached over, putting his arm around Sherry's shoulders and pulling her into a half-hug, rubbing her back. "You're such a good kid. I hope you have fun today too."
A welter of other people crowded Shay, as Klaus expected, and he kept a careful eye on this. He was ready to step in if needed, shoo them away. There was a present table, and plenty of activities for guests to amuse themselves and each other with, so this made him roll his eyes a bit behind the dark sunglasses, impossible to catch. The perfect snark crime. He gave Nico, cheshire cat boy, a wave and smile, amused by his formality. "Hey there, sharp dressin' jazzy cat." The bodyguards appeared to go take a break, which he allowed (in the end, Klaus was the top bodyguard to Shay).
Klaus couldn't help but dissolve in a fit of giggles when Shay received a treasure bag. This was starting to look like one of
his birthdays. How Rosales appropriate! And Shay was doing such a good job with the pleasantries and socializing. God, she'd come a long way, and in such a short timespan. He was really proud of her.
He noticed Shay's small, odd, often hostile friend shyly lurking around. He was happy the girl was comfortable enough, or, he should say, enjoyed Shay enough to show up here, in such a loud unknown situation. He worried about that one. He'd seen a lot in the Underground, as it was his home, and it appeared to be her home as well-- but in her case, that wasn't a pleasant thing.
Klaus was desensitized to a lot of evil, or outright liked some of it, as he was a crimelord and a demon. But not this kind. Never, never the kind that involved children. His chest hurt when he looked at that girl. He hoped Shay could be of help to her, as he knew it wasn't yet his place to go too close, too fragile a situation, and he was… well, he knew who he was.
And there his dear kitten was! She was carrying around something rather large, which made Klaus raise an eyebrow. It was Addy, so this gift was almost guaranteed to be a little out of control or outlandish, but he couldn't claim to not be guilty of the same habits. "Cute dress, kitty!" Klaus said, tipping up his sunglasses for a wink at his bouncy daughter. Green looked lovely on her!
Klaus took any presents handed off to him, promptly and pointedly placing them all on the present table, and hopefully this would give people a clue. Sheesh. He watched Addy's opened, blinking. Well, that was definitely something, wasn't it? He'd have to talk to Shay about using and practicing with that safely, later, but he was far from the no fun police for, so he'd wait. They'd have a lot to talk about after the party either way, too. He predicted them both passing out first, then maybe chatting about it over some popcorn and LuxTV.
Klaus watched Shay set down the scythe, then seem to give her sister a farewell. He could see where this was going, lips twitching with his continued amusement. Shay turned right around, pulled open his coat, and went under it, making a Shay shaped bump under the fabric. Dramatic kingpin coats were very useful as children hidey-holes. Klaus' smile softened, and he put his arms tight around his baby.
Klaus' face lit up as soon as he heard that trumpet. Oh, lord, he'd forgotten about the Birthday Fairy! This guy was a riot, a novelty at parties, and their cake tasted fucking mindblowing. Klaus had know them for years and years now, as they'd been to all his birthdays and a lot of his friend's and family's birthdays, and reacted very jovially to their presence. "Pip! Pipster! What a pleasure, as always! You're here to see Eroshay? That's great!" He patted her through his coat. "Mm. She's just feeling a little overwhelmed right now, but you can stick around. It's great to see you, bud."
He looked again at Rho and Sherry, the cuties. "Just give her some time."
To Shay, in a much, much quieter voice, for her only, he said, "Hiya. You wanna talk? You wanna snug? You want me to kidnap you from your own party for a bit for a breather? Say the word, and your dad will make it happen. Love you." Unwrapping his coat momentarily, he kissed the top of her head, then re-hid her.
