"Thanks for letting me stay in your room for a couple days, Kagerou. You really saved my butt~" Zelyn said as he walked through the main hallway of his dorm, in the direction of the common room. Trailing behind him was a short, black-haired kid with feline features similar to his own, red eyes plastered to the floor.

A few days back, around Christmas, the mischievous teenager had decided to throw a "redecoration" event, which was really just an act of vandalism disguised as community service. This event attracted the attention of a few student council members - ultimately getting him in trouble, and so he decided to do as he usually does and lay low in his younger brother's Elementary dorm room.

Zel threw a glance over his shoulder. "I thought I'd repay you and bring you along to get some dinner, even though it's past your curfew. So head back once you've eaten, 'kay? Or you might get in trouble~" He gave the kid a smug - and even slightly threatening - smile, who just responded with a nod.

With that settled, Zelyn walked into the common area as if he owned the place, his younger brother lurking in his shadow.

"Heyo~!" he called out to everyone in the room, smiling warmly at anyone whose attention was caught by his greeting. His gaze swept over the group that was currently here, checking for anyone he might recognize.

The first one who had caught his attention was no other than a certain red-haired individual he had got off on the wrong foot with. Should she look in his direction, he'd give her a "long time no see" smirk.

The other one was that enthusiastic girl - Evie - who he took a liking to. Despite the... private moment she seemed to be sharing with another girl, he didn't hesitate in making his way over with a slight skip in his step. As he approached them, Kagerou split off, heading straight for the food.

"You two want to borrow my room? It's empty~" he said in a low, teasing voice when he was close enough.

Aura

"Oh, um thanks," Aura started as her face began to show a tinge of pink. Damn, she had even been expecting Evie to greet her with something like that and yet there she was feeling embarrassed. And at what? The girl wasn't even been nearly as flirty as she usually was.

Aura blinked her one visible eye and forced herself to ignore her own internal weirdness about the way she looked. She focused instead on what Evie was saying about school. She had been in a sort of remedial education for about 6 years while on the islets, since regular school didn't really work so well with the dangerous and unstable way she had been for much of that time. She knew the annoyance of having to learn things that weren't as interesting just because someone else said it was important- not that she would ever, ever have told the instructors that to their faces.

"Um, maybe there's something more interesting you can ask to learn about? I don't know how the remedial classes work here on the island though," she admitted as she thought back to how her own classes had gone. There had been times where she was allowed to pick topics that were more interesting to her so that it would be ensured she would stay focused in class.

She really wasn't a party person. Though give her some good music and alcohol she could safely drink and she did tend to relax a little more than most people realized she could. But that was definitely not happening there. "Oh, um my roommates are uh hosting the party so... I don't know, it seemed like a good idea to come."

Her attention was momentarily drawn away by the sudden arrival of a blond haired boy who apparently desired everyone's attention. She looked over, but didn't recognize him so she had turned back to Evie. But of course he'd decided to come over to talk to them. Or rather tease them, as his question made Aura return to full blush mode. She'd caught what he was insinuating even if she hadn't been thinking about that kind of thing at all.

"N-no, that's ok. I have a room. I mean we don't need a room for.. anything," she stammered quietly. She turned away from him and Evie in an attempt to hide her face. Maybe she should just leave Evie and Zelyn to talk, they seemed like they might be able to get along ok....

Of special note, Zelyn approached his passive mind reading would only return static and unsettling growling noises from her mind, rather than her actual thoughts.

KirMir

They knew what anxiety felt like. There were some situations, especially in unfamiliar crowds where there were many potential threats, where they had been in a constant state of anxiety. Just not at the level that hindered them as much as Arata seemed to be suffering from.

"We have some understanding of what you are experiencing. Try to focus only on one or two people at a time if you are feeling overwhelmed," Mir nodded in understanding as he explained the issue and reassured them he was not suffering from anything too extreme. Summoning medical assistance did not appear to be required.

"There is a limited set of etiquette or social rules being observed here but we do not all interact in the same ways. It is ok to be different," Kir added even as he wasn't looking at Arata at all. He'd glanced about at the various other small groups of conversing students. And also carefully watched those who seemed to be slinking around without talking. Were they hunting or just wandering?

Mir gave Lily a quick kiss on her cheek as she correctly guessed where the pastries had come from. "Lily was correct, we traveled to the station before coming so we could pick these desserts up for the party. That shop is our favorite purveyor of sweets and baked goods. But we are glad you are both enjoying them," she answered both of their questions at the same time.

“Alright,” Arata nodded. “Ok,” he said. “Got this,” he affirmed. “Just one person,” he repeated.

But that was hard to figure out too, wasn’t it? That may be reasonable if everyon present were nothing more than a bunch of background drones with colorless souls, but there were simply too many of them, too many people shadowed by incomprehensible horrors. Arata forked another slice of pastry into his mouth, chewing slowly, mechanically, the taste already dying on his tongue, his appetite gone. A pure soul tainted by masks that grew like tumors, a black mass reflecting a distorted world, a creature of many hands that plucked away at objects it could not plunder. Too many to count, too many to ignore.

The nervous youth tried anyways, doing his best to focus only on Lilianna, even as one half of Kirmir encroached upon her presence and brought their own horrors upon her as well. A headache then. He remembered his training and faked a headache, squeezing his eyes shut and massaging the bridge of his nose to buy even a few seconds of blindness. Shook his head slightly, until his hair fell over his eyes. Envisioned, reenvisioned, the horror that stood behind the twinned creature, and steeled his resolve.

He opened his eyes once more, realized he wasn’t ready at all to face such sights head on, and instead just chuckled nervously. “Th-these pastries came from space? W-wow, I thought gravity wasn’t a thing there. Uh, like, how did it even? Work, I guess? Do you know? Bleahfeg, I mean, wouldn't all the flour float around and make a mess in space?”

“Ahhh, so it’s because of obligation. Gotcha, gotcha.” She said with an understanding smile. It was hard to imagine Aura showing up to one of these things just for the hell of it. She figured it was for a reason like that.

“But nah, I don’t get any say in what I do. It’s just a whole lotta maths and sciences and shit. I haaaate it.”

She paused for a moment. Evie knew Aura clearly wasn’t human, she’d been clued into that in their first meeting, so she just assumed that the girl had grown up on the island, though it sounded like that wasn’t the case. Curious, she was just about to ask about it, before the two of them were suddenly interrupted. Evie also recognised Zelyn from the previous night, and while she could always appreciate a fellow delinquent, something about him seemed off to her. It felt like there was a level of malice in the way he acted that night.

Well, it’s not like that really mattered to her either way. Other people’s reasons for doing things didn’t affect her.

Unlike Aura, Zelyn butting in to tease the two girls didn’t throw Evie off at all. She just immediately rolled with the punch.

“Aw, Aura, I can’t believe you’d shoot me down like that! Was it something I said? Am I really so repulsive to you? How cruel!”

She gave her an exaggerated sad look, like she was about to cry, but quickly dropped the façade moments later, having a small giggle to herself. Evie hadn’t been thinking about that sort of thing either, though, she did think Aura was pretty cute, and hook-ups were pretty common at parties. She also had a sneaking suspicion, however, that if she were to try and make a move the other girl would most likely bolt on her. Besides, with how bummed this time of year was making her, she didn’t really feel like trying her luck for the moment.

"Wassap catboy?" She gave Zelyn a nod. "No more art projects to work on?"

Lily reached out and laid a hand warmly on Mir's arm when she kissed her cheek and told her she had been correct about the pastries had come from, her attention solely on KirMir for a moment. Pleased actually that she had guessed correctly.

"Oh, right," Liliana remarked then grinning, her attention back on Arata when he jokingly mentioned no gravity and ingredients floating everywhere, which, she had to admit was an amusing if not funny thing to imagine.

"You probably don't know much about the space station," she explained, totally understanding his confusion now. "It's an amazing place, Arata. I didn't know much about it either," she told him hoping to distract and ease him somewhat.

"KirMir took me there and showed me around," Liliana told him as she glanced at a Mir happily for a second, remembering the tour up there,"they have, like, an artificial gravity up there. You hardly notice the difference at all."

KirMir

Kirmir could tell that Arata was definitely suffering from... something. But he had changed the subject to focus on the pastries and on space so they decided it was best to just go with it rather than question him further.

Mir sort of leaned against Lily on one side as Kir stood there acting much like a support for the both of them. A slightly weird dynamic, but one that seemed to work fine for Kirmir's needs. They let Lily begin explaining about the space station to Arata as she seemed to be better at handling difficult social interactions like this than they were.

"The space station is like a more metallic and sealed version of the Academy orbiting the planet. The artificial gravity prevents the flour from dispersing into the air any more than it would do here on the surface," Kir added in support of what Lily was saying. They knew there were those individuals who had trouble even comprehending the idea of a habitable synthetic structure in space and artificial gravity. This Arata seemed to be from a place where space travel wasn't possible or at least wasn't common.

"We would offer to invite you to the station too but we believe your anxiety would likely be exacerbated with the unfamiliar setting and crowds. Instead we would like to offer an opportunity to participate in this party in a nonverbal way," Mir offered as she looked between Lily and Arata. An idea had come to mind, and they didn't know if it made sense or not but they were willing to try.

"We would like to dance and we have two bodies and two other current conversation participants. Is that something either or both of you would be interested in?" It was an innocent and honest question from Kir, with them being unaware that it would probably terrify Arata to no end.

“Artificial gravity?” Arata understood the term, but at the same time, he didn’t understand at all why something like that would be present to begin with. Wasn’t the charm of outer space supposed to be the lack of gravity? He didn’t voice his confusion this time though. With talk of space stations as if they were totally normal things, the raven-haired youth practically knew that he’d be an object of ridicule for vocalizing those thoughts.

Yeah, better to just smile and nod. Training tip number eighteen. After a period of time, he even tossed an innocuous “I see”, regardless of how much of his vision was actually obstructed by his hair. That innocuousness was totally wiped out by the suggestion of dancing though. Oh God in Heaven, dancing? It wasn’t even the fact that he was going to be in close contact with these twinned sinners that scared him, but the fact that he would be in public, moving in a way that definitely wasn’t the Arata-trademark movements of ‘small and unnoticed’. Instantly, his heart rate accelerated again, eyes bugging out of their sockets.

Refusal was rude though. Rejection was unkind, even to a couple of mass murderers. Who knows, maybe they were good mass murderers. Lilianna did seem to like them. And it was something they wanted to do too. A proposition. A deal you couldn’t refuse. Arata gulped.

Training tip number forty-two: don’t be afraid to try new things.

For now, he decided to die by the sword.

Liliana had actually put her arm around comfortably Mir's waist when she leant against her side and glanced up at Kir when they spoke about gravity, nodding in agreement as he explained to Arata that is was like an enclosed academy.

"Oh, that'd be such a great idea," she remarked excitedly, pleasantly surprised when they suggested dancing. The dorm common area was fairly spacious and they'd just need to move that table and two or three chairs out of the way.

"What do you think, Arata?" Liliana asked, looking at them expectantly, and breaking out in a wide grin when they very shyly accepted KirMir's offer. "You can dance with Mir if you want," she suggested, "And don't worry, KirMir are excellent dancers and great teachers too." she gushed, wanting to reassure Arata that it didn't matter if they were good dancers or not.

"In fact, I am not that great of a dancer either, so we can both terrible at it together," she told him jokingly.

KirMir

KirMir weren't sold on the idea that Arata had understood, but they were not there to try to give him a lecture on physics or living in space. They were there to enjoy time with Lily and the others at the party, and they really did want to dance.

Would they have been upset or bothered at all if he had declined the offer to dance? No, they would have just nodded and moved on without any further issue. But instead he agreed... and spewed out his words in such a rapid way that KirMir had to focus extra just to make sure they understood the general idea of what he was saying.

"We would be glad to lead you Arata," Mir said warmly even as she was smiling back at Lily. There was a pause of reluctance and then she gave Lily a kiss on the cheek before gently removing her arm so the two sets of dance partners could arrange themselves.

The table and chairs were easy enough to move and within minutes there was enough space for them to dance.

"We won't need you to set up any music. We can supply something appropriate," Kir said mysteriously as he took Lily's and and showed Arata how to approach a dance partner. Not as formal as ballroom dancing, but not the chaos of the club either. Kirmir were familiar with a wide range of styles now, owing to their apparent keen passion for dancing.

Kir began leading Lily in something very simple and from seemingly nowhere music began to start up. It was hard to place but whatever it was seemed just perfect to what they were doing.

Mir offered her hand to Arata, waiting patiently for him to approach closer. "When you are ready Arata."

Aura

Truthfully Aura had a sudden lurch of panic even though she was pretty sure Evie was still teasing her. "W-what? No, I didn't mean that at all Evie.... oh. You're still... sorry I get it," she spat out the words quickly and stumbled over them like she was confused. Her face was a deep shade of pink from the combo of embarrassment from the flirty talking and from clearly making a bit of a fool out of herself.

It didn't help that there was this unknown guy there now joining forces with Evie. She didn't recognize Zelyn but it seemed like he might be the kind of person to push the teasing a little further and she didn't want to make things awkward.

"Um, I'll be right back," she quickly excused herself to slip back to her room. A quick splash of water would be good for her. She'd be back though.
