Liliana, along with most of her roommates and dormmates, had stayed at school for the Christmas holidays and winter break. And so, after a short discussion, they had decided together to have a New Year's get together type party with music and games in the main common room for anyone who wanted to join them that evening.

Since no alcohol was allowed, Liliana and her friends had managed to get their hands on some non-alcoholic champagne to toast in the New Year along with the standard soft drinks, fruit juices, blood packs, as well as a whole bunch of snacks to accomadate the different diets of her roommates and dormmates. All of which were set around the room, with cups and napkins, on tables so people could help themselves to whatever they wanted.

As people started to arrive, Liliana, who was dressed in a dark emerald green dress that complimented her red hair, put on some music and put out a few decks of cards and some popular board games for anyone who decided they wanted to play a game of some sort.

He supposed he didn’t like the snow too much. It was cold to the touch, made things damp afterwards, and the air that accompanied it made him paler than he already was, his skin numb from the cold. But he couldn’t just stay inside all the time either. He knew, after all, that it wasn’t acceptable to stay in his room the entire time, staring vacantly at the ceiling while the world spun on its axis and orbited around the sun.

Which was why Arata stood here instead, at the main doorway to the commons room where a party had been advertised, occasionally opening the door for other students as they came in, enjoying what he saw through the glass. The music was odd and artificial, the whole crowded nature of the event was suffocating, but from the distance, from his self-created role as a doorman, the youth found himself fairly content, offering shy smiles to people as he held the door open, largely ignored outside of a couple ‘thanks’ or a ‘nod’.

...

Yup, this was definitely better than dropping an anvil through his stomach by walking into that room and being drowned in excess.

Helping herself to a pinkish soft drink from the nearest table, Liliana wandered around the ever filing room, stopping to chat with a younger student, Azucena - who turned out to be a friend of Bel, Liliana's dormmate.

"Okay, sure, I'd like that..." Liliana said to Azu, listening to her talk as she took a sip of her drink, her warm blue gaze falling curiously on the young man standing by the door, opening it for guests as they entered or left the room. Watching him for a bit, Liliana unexpectedly caught his gaze and smiled politely, nodding at him in greeting.

Arata was taken aback when his wandering eyes caught the gaze of a redhead inside the room. For a moment he stared, like a deer stunned by headlights, his hand grasping onto a half-opened door as a couple people awkwardly slid through it. Then he blinked and mimicked her own motions.

A smile and a nod, both performed more awkwardly than she had. And then, just as quickly, he turned away, too embarrassed to continue further.

Seeing him turn away shyly, Liliana hid a smile and turned her attention back to Azucena for a while. When the younger girl was finished a few minutes later, Liliana had agreed to an afternoon of skating at the island's ice rink and the exchange of phone numbers.

Taking her leave then, Liliana decided to go over and introduce herself to the young man. "Hi there," she started, stopping to smile and say hello to a few people that suddenly came through the door, "I'm Liliana, by chance, did you want to come in and join the party?" she asked him curiously.

She was approaching. Why was she approaching? Did he do something wrong? He must of. She wasn’t some monster hiding under the skin of a red-haired woman. There were sins here and there, but nothing grotesque, nothing monstrous, nothing predatory that crawled over her skin. Oh no. Doormanning was a bad idea. Arata visibly shrunk, but he knew that it was a bad idea to straight up run away as well, even if his heart was pounding against his chest with every step she took.

Play it cool. Take deep breaths. Remember your training. She isn’t wearing white.

“Uh…no?” Arata blinked. Too fast. Also sounded even weirder. “I mean, yes! But, w-wait…”

THE TRAINING!

He squared his shoulders, visibly fought to raise his eyes, looked her straight in the nose, and stuck out a stiff, gloved hand. “Atara. No, Arata. I’m Arata. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Liliana. Really. It is. Asomew-bleregfa, I mean awesome.”

He nodded a few times, his head bobbing down maniacally.

Aura was dressed... well in a decently pretty dress for a change. It was dark red, hopefully able to look ok even if she decided to swap her hair color at some point during the night. And she had it swept over her face. She was loathe to reveal her face around so many people she didn't know.

She wasn't exactly much of a party person but she liked music and was trying to meet people. Plus she was one of Liliana's roommates so it made sense she'd be there. The unusual person holding the door for everyone had caught her notice but she had been in the middle of eating a small bowl of raw meat and really wanted to not approach someone new like that.

So she was relieved when Liliana stepped in to go talk to them and Aura hung out more in the background, watching the interaction and glancing nervously at a person with a large cup of something that smelled sickeningly sweet standing near her.

The new person looked so nervous she was afraid that approaching might give them a heart attack unless she waited for them to calm down a bit.

KirMir did not live in the dorms so they couldn't just walk in. They had to explain why they were, who they were there to visit and sign in with their student ID. All reasonable and standard procedures but it had made them take a little while getting into the building.

Finally they made it up to where Lily had said the party was going to be thrown. They had stowed any weapons before they had entered the campus of course and they had put away their winter coats once inside the building. That left them in fine evening wear that was fit for a party possibly just a little fancier than the one in the dorm but not nearly at the level of what they had worn to the Ball. Kir was in a black suit with a black tie and Mir was dressed in a black halter neck dress.

As they approached Mir produced a decently large box emblazoned with a stylized diamond on it from where it had been stored in their pocket dimension. Kir gave a small smile upon noticing Lily by the door and they approached to greet her and whomever this other guest was.

"Hello Lily and...," he greeted as they took in the very stiff and controlled body language of this person. Not deeming him a threat but concerned a little bit. "We do not believe we have met you before. We are KirMir," added Mir around the large box as they addressed Arata. The box that held an assortment of desserts they had brought for the party.

((for Arata's sake, they have done a fair amount of killing. Up to you Ashifili if/how that makes them appear))

Liliana saw - to her surprise and silent amusement - how Arata went through a complex stream of mixed emotions all at once. And because of this fairly obvious uneasiness and slight uncomfortableness, Liliana's first response was to reassure them somehow and majke them comfortable.

However, just as she was about to say something, KirMir arrived at the party and immediately drew her attention away from Arata for a moment. "You made it," Lily remarked with a welcoming smile, happy to see them as she gave Kir a quick peck on the cheek and Mir a warm hug, careful not to squash the box she was holding.

"This is Arata," she told KirMir as she glanced warmly at Arata, "He was just going to join us inside, weren't you?" she said to Arata with an encouraging smile.

It bloomed like a heart between the two. Twinned souls, weighted down by the same crimes, blackened arms twisting together to form the heart’s weave as eyes, terrified and hateful, bubbled out from that phantasmal flesh. It did not encroach on their forms, but the sins were numerous nonetheless, more than any regular human would have in a life time. And beyond that, he could sense it. Not just of dirt and earth, but of the cosmos’ stench as well. Beyond the boundary of the planet, stretching further out into the void.

Arata recalled. His teacher. Reminded him. Sins don’t. Make sinners.

But it was still too hard, faced against the vestiges of a hundred revenants, and the boy’s eyes smouldered, those red rings burning with fearful vibrance. Sure, there could be reasons behind all this, but that didn’t change what had happened. Lilianna didn’t seem afraid though. Maybe she didn’t know. Maybe she was friends with them. Maybe she did know. Maybe she didn’t care. She’ll hate him if he did care then. And Arata didn’t want to be hated.

So, even if his instinct told him to leave immediately, he forced a nervous smile, keeping his hands behind his back, clenched tightly.

“U-uh, yeah. Nice to meet you…two? too, Kirmir.” Shit, how did he even refuse this invitation? He felt the bile rising now, another seven anvils rhythmically bashing the bottom of his stomach. “And, I…guess that sounds good. Lilianna. Yeah, ok. This is fine. Hahaha…sorry for rambling.”

Kir gladly leaned in to make it easier for Lily to give him a kiss and Mir shifted the box a little out of the way for the hug, though her hands were too full to hug back at the moment. Kir solved it by putting one arm around Lily for a brief half hug before letting her get back to greeting her guest. They were in good spirits despite trekking through the snow to get there. Stopping off at the space station and traveling to the Academy from there had minimized the problems with weather.

Kir turned and nodded at Arata, sizing him up just as the younger student was evaluating them. Of course KirMir couldn't see souls or sins or anything of that kind. No, they relied mostly on body language and how other people spoke to determine if they were dangerous. "Hello Arata. We are one person with two bodies, but you will not offend us by being confused," he stated calmly and without any hint of malice at all.

Kir stayed with Lily and Arata as they were walking into the room but Mir stepped just a little further away, glancing around the room for the table where the food should be placed. Trying to guide them that direction. Of course she remained within a certain distance of Kir no matter what.

"Would you like these desserts on the table over there or in another location for later?" Mir asked Lily without regarding Arata. Kir was already focused on the unusually nervous boy so there was no logical reason for that body to be focused on him too.

Another thought, one of many, slipped into their mind and Kir spoke up again even while Mir was talking to Lily. "Would you like to try one?" he suddenly asked Arata as if it was perfectly normal to carry on a second conversation in the middle of another. "They are chocolate filled pastries."
