"Oh, don't be sorry. I often ramble too," Liliana grinned at Arata as she very naturally and without thinking stepped closer to Kir while noting the younger man's nervousness again and chalking it up to social anxiety. Not bothering to check out his soul, - which may have actually given her a clue as to why he was anxious - Lily was more preoccupied with focusing on the party, the people arriving, and KirMir.

"You can place them anywhere, Mir," Liliana indicated as she turned a bit to glance Mir's way, not paying attention to Kir and Arata's exchange anymore as she suddenly noticed the distance between the three. Remembering almost immediately her conversation with KirMir, Lily quickly looked around and spotted a table nearby.

"There's a table, next to Azucena, the long-haired girl with the purple sweater," she said as she gestured to a table a few feet away, hidden a bit behind two students who were chatting animatedly.

Mir had stepped away from them and then turned to glance at the table Lily pointed out. It wasn't really a serving table but it was within a relatively safe distance from the others, so she walked over to set down the large box. "Please stand aside, we have a container that needs to be set down on the table behind you," she interrupted the chatting students and they moved aside so she could set it down. A little thrown off by her interruption but... no worse for wear.

Mir retrieved two of the pastries from the box as she began moving back to join the others. Meanwhile Kir was waiting for Arata to decide if he wanted one or not. But what he could do was put a hand loosely around Lily. Not so much trying to pull her to him or anything, just enjoying being around her. Arata was new and unfamiliar but if Lily was trying to befriend him then they would be willing to give it a shot too.

“O-offend? Oh, yeah, I’ll definitely do that. Wait, no, not do that. Definitely not.” More rapid head-bobbing came from the boy as he followed Lilliana into the commons room, trying to stick close without sticking so close to her that it was creepy while also trying to maintain enough distance from Kirmir that he wouldn’t be able to smell the mass of grudges they’ve accumulated without being too far away that it was weird. And then there were the dozens of others around the room as well, each with their own anchors and sins, most of them not nearly as monstrous as Kirmir’s but some of them cutting it real close. One particular girl looked to be a mass of tentacles and fangs, her own blood seeping through gaping jaws that shone with silver light.

But even without the monsters hiding underneath the skins of humans, Arata simply had no idea what he should do in this situation, his eyes frenetically looking around. How did people converse so fluidly? Where did they get the courage to simply walk into someone else’s gaming session? How could they take the last slice of pizza from the box without feeling bad that someone else now won’t have the opportunity to taste it? He had no idea at all. A fish flung into outer space would be more at ease than the midnight-haired youth in this gathering.

Thankfully, someone threw him a lifeline. Sadly, that person was Kirmir.

“Uh…yeah, I’ll take them. No, wait, one. I’ll take one. You’re really kind, thanks a lot. I appreciate it, Kirmir,” Arata said, head rhythmically bobbing to his repeated phrases. He held out both hands to receive the fluffy pastry, recalled his training once more, and immediately turned to grab a plate, a fork, and a knife, slicing it up like one would with a steak. Needless to say, that didn’t work out too well at all, the cornet flaking to bits instead as Arata began to sweat, wondering why it wasn’t separating into perfect cuts.

Wait, he totally knew why.

His hands were shook af.

As the small group entered the commons room together, Liliana glanced at Kir and flashed him a warm smile, moving a bit so she could be closer to him when she felt his arm on her shoulders.

Distracted for a moment by some loud laughing across the room, Liliana glanced curiously in that direction, catching Mir's gaze as she did. Then after a moment, Lily returned her gaze to Arata and noticed pastry flakes everywhere. Frowning slightly at this, she looked at Arata and noticed that his hands were shaking a little.

"Arata? Are you okay?" Liliana started, concerned by his somewhat strange behaviour as she glanced at Kir wondering if they had noticed it too.

Evie was looking uncharacteristically morose as she slipped into the common room. She’d spent all this time leading up to the holidays getting into all sorts of shenanigans. Sneaking off to parties, getting high, vandalising property, all in service of avoiding the inevitable confrontation with one simple fact.

This was her first new years on the island, her first new years without her “family”, her first new years alone, and boy was that knowledge starting to set in.

Evie had planned to sneak off somewhere else for the new years celebration, but after her last little caper, she thought it best to lay low for a little while. So, having dressed in a warm jumper and jeans, she decided she’d hang around the other students for the evening, hoping it would distract her from her increasingly foul mood, at least for awhile.

After grabbing some juice for herself (and resisting the urge to vocalise how disappointed the lack of alcohol made her), she glided past the conversing students and found herself a place to sit, bouncing her leg idly to the beat of the music.

KirMir

KirMir were fairly confused by Arata's puzzling way of acting and speaking. It was like he was terrified of them and had no experience actually talking to people. KirMir knew they were not the most charismatic but at least they were not so indecisive and contradictory.

Kir smiled back at Lily and quietly walked along with her as the small group moved further into the room. He was still listening as Arata managed to explain that he would accept one, but as Mir was approaching then with the pastries she was taking over the conversation. "We would not consider ourself especially kind for this, as we did bring the desserts for people to eat. But you are welcome Arata," she nodded politely as the flaky chocolate filled pastry was handed over.

As Lily's gaze crossed Mir's, she gave the girl the same small smile KirMir almost always had when being with Lily. Just enough to know they were happy. She joined Kir and Lily, resting one of her arms on top of Kir's. In effect making contact with both Kir and Lily in the same movement. Her other hand swept forward to offer the second pastry to Lily. There was a reason they had brought two from the box.

"You appear to be shaking. Are you experiencing a seizure or an anxiety attack?" Mir asked Arata bluntly. If there was some sort of emergency developing they wanted to deal with it properly.

Kir, while still draping his arm over Lily's shoulders, had shifted his attention to scanning the rest of the room passively. Eyes glancing towards various spikes in volume or activity as if to watch for trouble. Even as Mir commented on the unusual activity KirMir didn't want to have both their bodies focused on only Arata and Lily.

Aura

She was doing her best to mingle with the crowd. Parties really were not her favorite things, though working at a club had given her a certain amount of courage to deal with groups of people. Aura managed to step away from the person with whatever horribly sugary drink it was and disposed of her bowl. Carefully she used a napkin to remove any trace of the blood and meat she had been eating from her lips and then looked through the crowd again.

Part of the reason she had chosen the red dress for tonight was to force her to be more noticeable, at least in a mundane way. So when she spotted someone she had met before she headed over to say hi.

Truthfully the last time she'd spoken to Evie Aura had been pretty embarrassed about a certain gift, but she was trying not to think about that. "Um, hello again Evie," she called out over the music as she approached where the girl was sitting. "Have you been um, having a good holiday?"

Evie hadn’t been paying much attention to the other students around her, she was simply trying to relax and listen to the music. Unlike most of them, she wasn’t really in the mood for meeting new people. She wasn’t so upset she wanted to avoid people entirely, however, so once Aura caught her attention she shot her a lazy grin.

“Heya hottie,” She said, with a mischievous, flirty look in her eyes. “I like the new hair colour, very punk-rocker of you.”

She lazed back on the sofa as she spoke. Even though her voice had that same teasing tone it had the last time they talked, the same obvious intent to get a rise out of her, Evie's heart clearly wasn’t in it this time around.

“It's been pretty chill.” Her head rolled back against the seat, looking up at the ceiling. “I’ve basically been doing what I’d be doing anyway. I’m just glad to have a break from all the classes. The remedial stuff is so boooooooring.”

She loudly slurped her juice out of her cup, before looking back at Aura.

"How 'bout you? Gotta say I didn't really see you as a party person."

“Anxiety,” Arata repeated, nodding his head. “Defeatingly, no, definitely that. Wow are these knives hard to cut properly with, ahaha. Not an attack though, or a ceasure. Nothing seriously serious. So I’m fine. Definitely a-ok. No worries at all, Lilianna, Kirmir.”

A pause. He drew in a deep breath, stabbed one of the sections of sliced cornet with the fork, lifted it to his mouth, and somehow dropped it moments before he could actually eat it. Arata immediately dropped down, plucked it off the ground, and tossed it in his mouth, swallowing the morsel before he could even taste it.

Ugh, this was all so BAD.

“Just first time here with so many people. Really sorry I literally have no idea what I’m doing and holy bible there are a lot of people. There’s some sort of etiquette or playbook everyone’s following here, right? Oh, and Kirmir the horn-shaped thing with chocolate in it was really good. Did you make it yourself cause wow, it was totally pretty good, right Lily, oh sorry, I mean Lilianna?”

Ugh, and he was EVEN WORSE.

Accepting the chocolate filled pastry from Mir with a happy smile, Liliana took a small bite of it, holding it over a napkin to catch any crumbs, and not bothering to cut it up like Arata was doing - or attempting to do. Watching him quietly as she finished her mouthful, Lily's eyes widened in surprise when he scooped up the pastry bit they'd dropped on the floor and plopped it in his mouth.

Now, generally speaking, Liliana was used to weird. Living most of her life on Manta Carlos had assured that. And normally, she'd have politely accepted Arata's odd behavior as just that, odd, and would have tried to move on to another topic of conversation. But for some reason, he seemed to be getting more and more nervous and his behaviour a bit more odd no matter what they did.

"It's fine, Arata, some people call me, Lily," she said with a friendly, yet patient smile, trying to put them at ease. "And yes, the pastries are very delicious," Liliana agreed as she glanced at Mir.

"Did you pick them up at the space station?" she asked her, having recognised the diamond symbol on the box as similar to the ones KirMir had given her on their trip to the space station.

New Years party huh? Theo hadn't ever really been to any sort of parties with kids his age before, so this was a first. His mother made an excellent point that he can't just ring in the new year doting on her, especially since she was going out with friends. It was kind of a weird notion to him. But whatever, turned out the nearest dorm party was his dorm. Convenient.

He was dressed nice, but pretty casual. His white hair was combed, eyes scanning for anyone to talk to. He moved over to the punch bowl, and got himself a cup. Then he decided to slide over to a wall. Hopefully some interesting conversation would pop up for him to hop into.
