Mackenzie was being unreasonable.

Adelene didn't mean to feel bad towards him, but she really thought that what he asked her to do wasn't the most appropriate assignment to give in a gunsmithing class. In a sense it was related, but still. Making her do it was like a form of teasing. He wanted her to build a gun model, no need for gears inside. What made it terrible was that he wanted it to be around six feet long. A gun for a fucking giant! It would be taller than her if it stands.

Books are her favorite mode of escape whenever she feels down or upset. So today, she decided to visit Lil London Bookshop again to buy one. She was going back to her apartment and read it and not think about the useless assignment Mackenzie gave her. But first, as she walked through the sidewalks, she'd take her phone from her pocket and call Miya. She felt like she can be herself around her, and she probably wouldn't mind hearing Addy rant. When she picked up, Addy just started ranting.

".........It's really stupid, you know? I mean, I probably won't mind making an actual-sized gun model but sheesh! This one's gonna be six feet long, Miya! A whole foot taller than me! It's like the Captain's insulting my height!" She faked a sob as she clutched her book closer to her chest. Yeah, that's probably what upset her most: the fact that she was going to be shorter than the gun model. She hated it.

Grant on the other hand had just been visiting his favorite bakery, his favorite baker residing inside. After a delicious snack, as well as an even lovelier conversation, Grant bid his goodbye and walked along on his path back to the school.

He noticed Adelene as he turned a corner, and heard the tail end of her rant. He spoke up, in an amused tone, loud enough for her to hear.

"Why would I be insultin' yer height lass?"

"'Cause I'm sh--"

Adelene jumped and shivered and squeaked all at the same time. That... That wasn't Miya. That was Mackenzie's voice! She ended the call abruptly and turned around, only to find out that she was right and the Captain was right there behind him.

She internally screamed, and exploded. Outwardly, her face twisted and burned red with embarrassment.

"C-Captain..." She forced a smile; unfortunately it wasn't believable. "...How long have you... been... standing there..?" she asked, before swallowing down the lump in her throat that was probably caused by nervousness.

Grant chuckled, popping one of the cream puffs from the bakery into his mouth as Adeliene jumped. He smirked widely, crossing his arms as the girl stammered. "Long enough lass. Now, wha' about me assignment was, 'ow did ye put it? 'Stupid', there we go."

He grinned down at her, his eye showing an uneasy sense of calm.

"..." She could feel it-- her face was burning, and the air around her was starting to feel hot and suffocating. So Mackenzie heard her... And he heard the worst part of her ranting!

She hugged the book closer to her chest. She needed something to hold on to, because her knees were starting to shake. She was so embarrassed. "Well... You see... I..." No, she didn't have any excuse. She tried to look for one but as she failed to find any, she sighed and surrendered.

Her gaze turned away from the Captain. "I'm sorry, Captain," she mumbled. "It's just... It's really frustrating. I was already working on it but I just can't help but feel upset that even a gun model is larger than me." Maybe her whining wasn't that reasonable. She knew that. And maybe that's why she was apologizing.

Grant chuckled as he noticed Adelenes blush. He wasn't really mad at her, he had expected that she would likely become annoyed with his assignment, but he had ultireor motives with his 'Giant Gun'. She'd find out after she finished it, but that was for another time.

He held up a hand to quiet her down, still chuckling. "Lass, th' assignment wasn' meant ta' insult'ye. Ye'll see when yer done, why I 'ad ye make it that big. Don' worry, alrigh?" He reassured her, grinning widely, before he leaned down and gave her a wink.

At least, it was supposed to be a wink. Hard to put that across when you only had one visible eye.

"Though, in th' future, i'd appreciate it if ye' come ta me with yer complaints."

The Captain was managed to convince Adelene to calm down and halt, and he was intimidating at the same time. The girl took a step back when he leaned forward, nodded as best as she could without looking like doom was right in front of her. "Y-Yessir..."

She took a deep breath and exhaled. She almost forgot, but she realized as she calmed down that they were in the city. It wasn't so often that she could meet her teachers outside the academy. "So what are you doing here in the city, Captain?" she asked, both for curiosity's sake and for small talk to shoo any awkward silence that might take over. She hated awkward silence.

Grant chuckled as Addy calmed down. She was a good student, just a little hot headed sometimes. He quirked an eyebrow as she asked why he was here.

"I come to th' city every day lass. Gotta satisfy me sweet tooth." He laughed loudly. "Are ye' doin' anything aside from chattin' about yer favorite teacher?"

Adelene tilted the paper bag that she was holding, the one containing her new book, to show it to her 'favorite teacher'. "Just bought a book, Captain. I come to this bookshop often." Her words were meek now, quite the opposite of Grant's loudness, and her own a few minutes ago. "Well... Aside from that, I'm not really doing anything. Why do you ask, sir?"
