Appearance

Maddie stands at about 5 feet, 5 inches (165cm). Shoulder length black hair, usually with a few streaks of color dyed in. Red irises. Fair skin. Small conical white horns sticking out of her forehead. She has a fit build, owing partly to her time on the volleyball team.

Active Abilities

Illusion Magic

She can create illusions that affect people's senses of sight, hearing, and (to a limited degree) touch. These illusions can also target specific people, including herself or people with a direct line of sight to her; such illusions can make someone invisible or make them appear or sound entirely different.

Her illusions can affect one's sense of touch, but they aren't solid. For example, someone's hand could pass right through an illusory box she made, but they would still be able to feel its surface. Any tactile sensations need to be tied to the illusion of a physical object - for example, she can make you feel like you've been stabbed, but only if she "stabs" you with an illusory knife or something.

Her illusions cannot directly injure people. She can only create them within 20m of herself, and they would be dispelled if they would ever exceed that distance from her. Furthermore, they cannot be too complicated: anything that requires more than two sentences to explain is probably too complicated for her to maintain with this ability. She can see through her own illusions. Her illusions actually affect light and sound, so cameras and microphones will detect them just as human eyes and ears would.

Why I Can Have Nice Things

When Maddie wants something badly enough, she can draw on the power of her own envy to help her get it. This power can give her visions, as well as an intuitive understanding of what she'll have to do, which will guide her towards getting what she wants or achieving some goal if she acts on this supernatural understanding.

Fine Print

Her visions and intuition can guide her towards opportunities which she otherwise wouldn't or couldn't have known about, and these can sometimes give her a deep discount on getting the thing she wants, earn her most/all of the money to buy the thing she wants, or even get her that thing for free.

The more envious she is, the more uncannily useful her visions can become. The less time it would take for her to get something through normal means, or the closer it is to being attainable, the more detailed her visions can become. Her visions and intuition will not protect her from the negative consequences that may result from her following through with them, and they sometimes direct her to sabotage or give up on things she already wants to do - she needs to exercise her own judgment in following their directions.

This power will not show her how to win a game of chance, and it will not give her skills that she does not have, though it can direct her towards working on the skills she'll need. She can only call on this power up to four times a day. Each time she calls on it corresponds to a single course of action for getting a thing or achieving a goal. She might consume all four of her uses in a day on the same goal, without learning anything she would be willing to do, because she can already tell all of those options suck. If she has no control over whether she can get a certain thing, she'll waste a daily use figuring that out.

She can only use this ability to help her get something she envies because someone else has it and strongly desires it for herself. It's not every day she even wants something bad enough to make this ability work, and she can't control how much she envies someone or when it happens.

Take Them Down a Peg

Madeline can temporarily curse people, suppressing their supernatural abilities. Madeline needs a clear line of sight to do this. She can suppress up to two different abilities at a time. These can be two abilities in one person, or one ability each for two different people. Madeline's power-suppressing curse can last up to half an hour if she isn't sticking around to maintain it. It will end sooner if she starts suppressing two other different abilities, or if she willingly lifts the curse. This can only be used to suppress abilities that her target likes having or finds useful

Wielder of the Demon Sword

As Sharpe's wielder, Madeline can summon them at any time by speaking their true name. While wielding Sharpe as a sword, she is resistant to magical abilities used against her.

Passive Abilities

Dying's for Fools

Instead of dying, her body turns to ash and she shows up in Leviathan's slice of hell. She'll be able to come back to Earth within a week or two.

Envy Demon Senses

She can recognize other hellions as hellions by looking directly at them. Photographs, videos, and mirrors are insufficient; she needs a direct line of sight. She can also discern which sin or sins they correspond to, though she can get thrown off by hybrids. Furthermore, she can recognize intense feelings of envy and jealousy in people just by looking directly at them, and she can discern the causes for those feelings.

You Jealous?

When Maddie detects strong feelings of envy that are directed towards her, she is invigorated and empowered. Her needs for food and rest are temporarily reduced, if not sated. She becomes able to think faster and more clearly. Finally, she can experience visions, similar to her "Nice Things" ability, except they only guide her in intensifying the feelings of envy and jealousy that are directed towards her and they don't affect her daily limit.

Holy Shit

As in, shit that you could describe as holy. That stuff hurts her. Holy water or blessed/holy items can give her serious burns on contact. Waving a holy item at her will make her want to go away, though she can resist it. Being in a church, synagogue, mosque, or similar Abrahamic religion holy place fills her with agony.

biography

Madeline's mother was a human woman, married to a human man. Currently, her mother claims someone traded her baby out at birth with a devil child. Madeline thinks her mom is trying to save face with her father for having an affair.
Passed as human for most of her childhood
Grew up in a small town in the southern USA, in what they call the "bible belt." She won't tell you which town.
Churches made her uncomfortable when she was young, and it got a lot worse as she grew older, giving her literal physical pain. She eventually refused to go to church, trying to pass it off as atheism and going to great lengths to avoid her parents' efforts to take her to church.
Desperately wanted to leave home, go to college in a big city, see the world, stuff like that. Her mother made it no secret that she doubted her ability to get a big enough scholarship that this would work out.
Her powers started growing in at the same time her horns were, around 2016. She started actually realizing what she is and, terrified, managed to keep it a secret for a couple years. By the time her horns were big enough to be easily visible through hair or hats, she could use illusions to hide them.
She used her abilities in ways that weren't entirely responsible to go on adventures and break rules, going missing for days on end even when her parents tried to ground her for the last time.
an invitation from SA came in. She revealed she's a demon to her parents, and they took it extremely poorly. They disowned her and kicked her out. She ultimately ended up calling for a scout's help going back home to collect her stuff.
