Appearance
In her natural form, Aranea looks like a giant spider from the waist down and a mostly human woman from the waist up. She has two more eyes than a human would, each one being a solid black with a hint of blue-green that is visible in a certain light. She has dark brown hair she usually wears short. Her hands and forearms and spider parts are covered in fuzzy black chitin.
A lot of her clothing is made of her own silk, and she favors blues and greens. When she feels flashy, she may wear blue or green lipstick and a matching eyeliner.
In human form, she has green eyes and she's about 5'8. Being in her true form adds about 4-6 inches, depending on how she stands on her spider legs.

Active Abilities
Spider Shape-Shifting
Aranea can shapeshift, or partially shapeshift, between three forms: Her arachne form, a human form, and a spider form.- Her arachne form has a lower body that looks like a giant spider, and an upper body that is mostly humanoid with spiderlike features.
- Her spider form is large enough to fit snugly on the palm of a human hand. It is an agile little jumping spider.
- Her human form is exactly what it says on the tin: She looks like a normie. Unless she partially shifts in some spiderlike features, she loses many of her abilities in this form.
Partial shapeshifting enables Aranea to grow parts of any of the above forms while in either of the other two forms. For example, she could grow wrist-spinnerets in her human form to act like Peter Parker, or turning into a much smaller-than-normal, squeaky-voiced arachne, or growing extra eyes (with little ability to focus) on the back of her neck.
Web-Slinging
Aranea can spin out spider silk from spinnerets in her spider-butt (when she has one) or her wrists (when she has them). This silk has incredible tensile strength, but it is only a little bit harder to cut through than ordinary silk. She can choose whether to make it sticky or covered in venom.Her webbing can be useful for many different purposes. For example: she can make bandages or bullet-resistant clothing out of her webbing. She could spin a basic web parachute in a second or two while hurtling through the air. She could even launch herself with a web slingshot.
She can only make a limited amount of silk, and it builds up slowly in her body based on how well she eats.
Paralyzing Venom
Aranea can secrete a paralyzing venom. It works on contact, usually just paralyzing the areas it comes into contact with. It can paralyze the entire body if injected, or kill in a large dose.The venom can be injected via bite, spit out in a stream, or secreted on her silk as she spins it. She is immune to her own venom.

Spider Sense
Aranea's reaction time is much faster than a human being's. Furthermore, she can sense disturbances in the air around her. Between these two things, it is very difficult to catch her by surprise.She has exceptional vision, being able to see things clearly three times as far away as any natural human. Her peripheral vision is extraordinary thanks to her extra pair of eyes. In her full spider form, she has even more eyes arranged around her body, giving her nearly 360 degrees of vision.
Tough Chitin
Aranea's chitin is tough enough to withstand small arms fire. Repeated shots to the same area, or a large enough amount of force, can still crack or break it.Limb Regeneration

Aranea can move with supernatural speed and grace. She can sprint up to 40 mph. She can easily walk across tightropes or up smooth 90-degree surfaces. She can jump 25 meters forward or 10 meters straight up. On top of it all, Aranea can do these things while barely making a sound and without breaking anything with her weight.She can also lift a ton and carry that weight around with some difficulty.

Molting
If the "main" parts of Aranea's exoskeleton (her spiderlike second thorax and abdomen) are badly injured enough, the only thing that can actually repair this damage is molting and growing a new exoskeleton. Until she has done this, the only thing keeping her from bleeding to death might be a bandage and/or a blood clot. This naturally happens once a year in the summer whether she wants it to or not. She can take drugs to induce molting sooner, and as long as it's been at least a month since last time the molting will start in the next day or two.Molting can take her out of commission for most of a day. It will take another few days for her exoskeleton to reach its usual hardness and toughness, during which it feels delicate and sensitive.

The scouts saved Aranea from an awful life. Her egg was originally found (or perhaps stolen) by a trafficking ring. Operating in the shadows, this group sold humans and supernatural beings alike into slavery to the wealthy and unscrupulous. They meant to raise her with the understanding that she was not a person, but a thing - property, to be kept and used. In 1991, the scouts successfully tracked down her captors.
Within a few months of coming to the island, Aranea was adopted by a couple of women who had been married for over a year: a scout who had been involved in the extraction team, and a journalist who worked with the local news.
Aranea was a menace as a teenager. She got into all kinds of questionable behavior, including drugs and even joining a cult for a while. But she cleaned up her act early in her career as a university student, and eventually became a scout who excelled in the training. Her primary focuses were in social work and field investigation, with occasional involvement in extraction.
Aranea was extraordinarily driven as a scout, to the exclusion of her personal life. A recent depressive episode led her to reconsider how she was spending all of her time, and to seek a better work/life balance.
