You had a bad day.

Mal would sit across from Emily, slightly hunched over, his eyes to the ground, "I suppose today is an unlucky day for me."

"For starters, I had a terrible test earlier, second some guy decided he wanted to get in a dispute with me over nothing." Mal would give a sigh, he really had no idea what that guy's issue was.

"Then the rain, I usually love rain, but it was completely unexpected, so I got soaked."

He sat up a bit more, gazing at the ceiling, "And the icing to top it all off is..uh.."

Mal was unsure how he was going to word this, it's not something you openly say to a stranger, considering the nature of it. "Today is the anniversary of a tragedy that happened three years ago."

"... I... I s-see..." Emily just sat there, listening to what Mal had to say. She wasn't entirely sure how to help him with it, other then listening, but she felt like there must have been some way.

"... T-Tragedies... Have a habit of t-tainting the moods of th-those who remember them... I-I don't know if there's a-anything you can r-really do about it... O-Other then try to stay happy... As b-best you can..."

Mal would look drop his gaze for a moment, looking at Emily, he'd chew on the side of his inner cheek, thinking as he did.

Mal would give a bit of a sigh, "Yeah, I suppose so. It just gets hard on this day, other days are easier honestly." Mal averted his eyes, looking at the aisles of books, he did this in thought of Emily, she seemed very nervous to just be talking to him, he didn't want to make her more uncomfortable.

"How would you feel about talking about yourself some? I'm feeling a bit guilty hogging the conversation." He'd smirk a little, Mal wasn't too big on sharing personal details willy-nilly, so he wanted to shift the spotlight for a bit.

"A-About me?..." Emily wasn't adverse to the concept of talking about herself, but she didn't really have a lot of interesting things to say off the top of her head. "W-Well... Um... L-Let's see..."

She stared down at her hands a little as she twiddled her fingers around each other, trying to come up with a couple of things. "... Well... M-My father is a... a psychiatrist... My mother is a f-fortune teller... I'm s-studying psychology... U-Um..."

Mal would nod a bit, materializing a coin in his hand to fidget with. "Tha'ts pretty cool, following in your parent's footsteps I suppose, well at least your father. Unless you fortune tell on the side, then you really are, and you'd be quite a double threat"

He was making idle conversation but it was more to alleviate the pressure from her. "Well, psychology is fun anyways, knowing how people tick and why they do things one way or another is fascinating." He thought about psychology for a while, the subject really interested him and he wanted to but he wasn't sure if he'd be doing the right thing when committing to it.

Emily blushed a little and turned her eyes towards her feet when Mal mentioned fortune telling. "W-W-Well... I-I can... Yes... I-I know how... To r-read fortunes..." It really was something she should be getting flustered about, but it still made her all fidgety again. Perhaps it was because she didn't know what he meant by double-threat.

"... I-I... I do enjoy it... Psychology... It h-helps with understanding p-p-people..."

Mal would get a little flush himself, he really needed to work on his thought process a bit better. "Oh..right, island of people with super powers, sorry about that. Well-" Mal would clear his throat, running his right hand through his hair. "-That's pretty cool as well, fortune telling, seeing the future, I'd ask for the lotto numbers but I'm not one for cheating." He'd give a soft chuckle, trying to lighten up a bit.

"I took an interest in it for a bit, took a class on it during highschool, I was very interested in Jungian psychology. But I'm undecided here, unfortunately, so many things to be able to do and so on."

"I-I mean... It w-wouldn't really... I-It doesn't work like th-that... s-something so clear and sp-sp-specific... I can o-only tell you what... W-W-Will probably happen... How th-things might be..."

She just stared at her hands for a while, letting her mind settle a little bit. "... Wh-What about y-you?... A-Are you studying a-anything?..."

Mal would nod a bit, probably something to do with the inexact nature of time itself, but magic had plenty of power to do plenty of things to do. So perhaps it had to do with the experience of the user, so many factors to consider in figuring out some powers. "Yeah, things never are that simple. Ah well, still seems useful, knowing the future even if you can't get the exact details."

Mal would rub his jaw, with an uneasy smile on his face. "Currently I'm undecided in what I want to major in. So I'm doing some general schooling and trying to get a job while I figure everything out." Mal would give a bit of sigh, the reminder of his indecision was a bummer, but he was working on it.

"... I-It can be..... U-Useful... But m-many people will use i-it as... A-A-A crutch... a def... A definite outcome..... I-It can become very... Destructive..."

"G-General schooling is g-g-good... There i-isn't anything wr-wrong with that..." She licked her lips a few times, her eyes slowly sinking to the floor. "..... I-I'm sorry... I'm not being v-v-very helpful... A-Am I?... I-I-I can just g-go... and l-leave you alone... I-If that would be better....."
