The worst part about these headaches was the way they came in waves.

"Loch?"

When Addy found him, part of a wave was breaking over him, and it wasn't until it seemed to be drawn back out for a moment that Lochlann blinked slowly, registering that she was there only after she'd said his name twice.

"Lochlann!" she called him again. "Get up, into the shed, come o!"

She was soaked, shivering, and trying to get him up. He was less wet than she was, but the first thing that came out of his mouth was, "Baby, why are you all wet?"

....and how can I make you wetter?

A small warning siren was going off in his brain. The last time he'd ended up in a shack with a cute girl in the rainstorm, it'd gone horribly, he'd lost his amulet, and then the girl would later shoot him. If that part of his brain was working, he'd remember that Addy could do much, much worse than shoot him in the leg if she had a a gun in her hands.

That part of his brain was not working.

"Oh, Addy, we need to get you out of those clothes," he said, eyeing her with a mixture of concern and...hunger. "You'll catch your death out here.."

He pulled himself to his feet, his movements suddenly graceful, like a hunting cat's, and he slid the shed door open, beckoning for her to go inside.

He'd follow and then closed the door.

A wave of pain came crashing into him a moment later and Lochlann was back on the ground, this time inside the building, but the damage was already done as far as he was concerned.

Get it together, Loch.

"Addy I am so sorry," he said, burring his face in his hands.

Adelene's face flushed red almost immediately. What the hell. That comment didn't sound right, and she could only think of one reason why he was acting all funny.

Loch was delirious.

She tried not to react in a bad way. If she loses her control and does it, she might make a really bad damage on Lochlann, especially since she was still really upset he ran away. But she could tell he had his reasons. Important reasons most likely.

She touched his forehead. He was feverish, but that wasn't so shocking.

A part of her brain new that getting any closer to Lochlann would be a bad idea right now, but nonetheless, they had to get in the shed. She pretended not to hear any of what he just said, all those suggestive comments that would usually make her happy to punch someone's teeth out.

And then a thud. She turned around only after entering the shed, and could already see Lochlann on the ground. She couldn't help it, she was really worried. She went to him, stroking his head softly as that seemed to be where his pain was coming from.

"Y-You're... a wreck," she muttered. Her voice was shaking just as much as her body was, but she was fine, unlike Lochlann. "Why don't you... try sleeping it off..? I'll... I'll do something about... y-your headache if... you want..."

Her fingers were in his hair and felt like ice against his burning skin. He blinked slowly once, twice, trying to find a lucid thought throughout the pain and the lust. Her voice was wobbly like that because she was cold. She'd get sick, unlike him. He needed to make sure she was okay, he needed...

He needed to get her clothes off.

"Addy," Lochlann said, "I can think of something we can both do to get rid of this headache and wait out the-agghhhhh"

He reached up and unbuttoned his shirt quickly, pulling it off, no longer concerned about hiding the bruises on the inside of his elbows from where he'd been self medicating.

He held his face in one hand, holding his shirt out towards her. "It's...it's big enough that it should--"

he was talking about his shirt, just the shirt.

"You should be able to wear it without any problems, at least until your clothes dry out."

Now let me help you out of those clothes...

"I...I uh...I should go outside while you change," he said, feeling the wave of pain start to recede. It wouldn't be long until another one came crashing back.

Of course, there was no guarantee he wouldn't bolt again, although Lochlann wasn't sure where he'd go, or how long he'd be human for. He was trying to remain decent but it was so, so hard.

Remaining decent, he meant.

Adelene gave him a moment. She knew she was okay, and she knew she didn't need Lochlann's shirt, she didn't need to change clothes. There were other worse things that could weaken her, the cold was not one of them.

"Lochlann I'm... f-fine..." she trembled, but her tone was firm. She wasn't going to wear it; she wasn't going to let him go. She took the shirt, only to put it back over his shoulders. "Don't you dare... g-go outside. I... I told you, try to rest... or so help me I'll... I'll knock you out..!"

She noticed the bruises, but that was least of her concern now. She held his forearm with a strong grip with the intent of keeping him down there. Her tone was not really as gentle as before anymore. Lochlann was acting too weird, and that wouldn't have ticked her off if only she knew what was going on. But she didn't. She couldn't understand him, especially that first attempt to ditch her, and that's what upset her the most.

Now mix that with her unconditional concern for him, Adelene decided she couldn't be gentle. She'd do what it takes to keep him there and to make him stop his weird suggestive delusional flirting. She could detect them pretty well, fortunately she had a patience meter for that.

"Addy, you're all...soggy," he said, trying to choose his words carefully. "It's better if I go outside so I--"

Her hand was on his forearm and she was surprisingly strong and Lochlann felt another surge of panic course through him. He did not like being restrained. His voice broke as he said, "Addy, please."

There was a crack of thunder outside and Lochlann groaned, burying his face in his hand. The contact between them was surprisingly soothing and, as another rush of pain came through, Lochlann reached up and grabbed her, attempting to pull her close to him.

If he managed to catch her off guard, he'd sort of pull her into an awkward embrace, but otherwise he was looking at getting hit.

Either way, he'd say, "Addy, you have to be freezing, please, just let me warm you up."

A long, quiet growl escaped Adelene as she tried not to be pulled in by Lochlann. Her eyebrows were already furrowed in a way that showed she was reaching her limit. She didn't know what to do, she...

She slapped him hard. Right on his cheekbone. For a short moment, things around her felt like they stopped.

"You're so stubborn!" she was almost, just almost shouting at him. But her voice was still fragile, and this time, it wasn't just because of the low temperature. Actually, she wasn't feeling the cold too much anymore, as her blood started to boil. She wasn't exactly angry but... pissed off. And that gave a new reason for her to tremble.

She pulled away when she could and stood up, getting to the farther spot in the shed away from Lochlann, hugging her own cold torso. "I'm trying to... h-help you feel better here, and you keep acting so... I don't even know dammit!" she gritted her teeth and looked away. "I hate how I don't even understand..!"

Lochlann needed that.

He needed that so very badly.

"Thank you," he said.

His face stung, but it cleared his head, sort of, but it also turned him on, sort of.

"You're so stubborn!"

He slumped further against the wall, closing his eyes, regretful to have a clear end, but not grateful that it'd come at the cost of upsetting her. Still, it was better than eating her.

"I'm trying to... h-help you feel better here, and you keep acting so... I don't even know dammit!" she gritted her teeth and looked away. "I hate how I don't even understand..!"

You can help me feel better by coming back over here....

He groaned and rubbed his face. He could barely feel the sting from her slap, but it was an attempt to get his thoughts back on order. If he still wanted her to talk to him after all of this, he needed to get a grip, but he couldn't. A cold shower would only make things worse.

"I'm sorry Addy," he said. "This is why I don't...I don't like to be around people when it rains."

He took a slow, deep breath.

Could he do this?

"I don't react well to the rain. I..I usually go home and take something and sleep it off."

Why couldn't he say it? Why couldn't he just say, I'm not human.

But since I'm not home, why don't you come back over here and sleep it off with me?

Why couldn't he just say, I'm a monster.

"I think...I think I need to go," he said, his fingers digging into his scalp, pushing back his hair. "I'm sorry, Addy, I'm just...I'm gonna make this worse."

Adelene listened. She was pissed off, but she was also still very worried and confused, and she wanted to understand. Her hands got tighter around herself, feeling so cold again now that she's cooled off, and her shaking started to worsen.

But she was actually feeling just a little bit better, because Lochlann was trying to tell her what's up.

Ah, so something was in the rain.

Adelene doesn't have enough ideas about that, but if only she came across one book about it, she'd definitely understand that he was a creature of the water. But she didn't. She hasn't found that knowledge yet.

She chuckled, although there was no humor in it. "Why didn't you say so sooner--"

She got back right in front of him in a flash, holding onto his hand this time. Hers was really cold, she felt like ice. "Don't go!" her tone was pleading. "You just said... you don't react well in the rain, right? Then... you can wait for it to... pass here. Don't run away again.... look... you got all pathetic."

She let him go after that. Shot him a really small smile that didn't reach her eyes. and then she opened the door.

"If you don't... If you don't want me around... It's better if I just go, r-right..? I'll go ahead, but call me when everything's better. Or email me when you... when you get home. I also... need to be alone for a while..."

She stepped outside. It was much colder there, with the wind really strong and nothing to keep it away from her. She shivered, but decided it was no big deal. She just had to go somewhere she can call for a taxi.

"Why didn't you say so sooner--"

"Because I didn't want you to ever see me like this," he said, his voice muffled from his hands.

Suddenly, she was close to him, and Lochlann almost jumped, her hands on his. She was freezing and she felt like ice, painfully cold against his burning skin. Oh gods, Addy.

"Don't go!" her tone was pleading. "You just said... you don't react well in the rain, right? Then... you can wait for it to... pass here. Don't run away again.... look... you got all pathetic."

Her hands were gone too quickly and he ached for her presence again. She was by the door with a look on her face that cut him like a knife.

"If you don't... If you don't want me around... It's better if I just go, r-right..? I'll go ahead, but call me when everything's better. Or email me when you... when you get home. I also... need to be alone for a while..."

"God dammit Addy," Lochlann said, his voice rising. "I want you around, and that's the problem. I want you around all the time. I miss you when I haven't seen you for five minutes, and that scares the hell out of me, because I don't want to end up hurting you."

She stepped outside and the rain made her out of reach. The wind that blew in through the open door send a gentle spray towards him and he started to shake, but it wasn't from the cold.

Fuck it. Fuck fuck fuck.

Lochlann ignored the warning bells going off inside him, ignored the part of him that said, let her go, she's safer out there in the rain without you, don't do this.

He stood there, shaking, using every ounce of his willpower to not show her what a monster he was and said, "Addy, please."

What the hell. What's wrong? Why? Why do you think you'll hurt me..?

Adelene gritted her teeth. Lochlann's words weakened her, and for a moment, she didn't want to go. She glanced at him briefly, weighing the choices.

I can't understand him...

Lochlann looked desperate to keep her. His words, meanwhile, conflicted one another, telling her he wanted her around and then telling her she might get hurt. Sweet words, if only said in a different situation. She was so confused again, just when she thought she already grasped what the problem was.

"I don't... understand..."

Another gush of cold air. Adelene, being right where she was, instantly froze in place, holding her own body to keep herself warm.

The cold was biting her to the bones and it was starting to feel painful. Suddenly, it was all she could think of.

"H-Haaah......" her breath was like silent gasps, or more like ghostly whispers by the wind. Her temperature had already dropped. But she was still conflicted, if she should go or not, because honestly, if Lochlann didn't want her to go, there won't really be any reason for her to do so.
