Yoka ran like her life depended on it.

As she ran, she thought how stupid it was to think like that, because her life very well did depend on it, please and thank you. The kitsune was in her fox form--sort of. She'd used the last of her illusion powers for the day to hide away her remaining four tails so, for all extents and purposes, she looked like a normal fox.

Well, a normal cross fox. She didn't bother to hide the unique markings that were hers by birth.

She couldn't even call for help or whip out any of the magical incantations she'd learned when she was a student at the academy because her mouth was wrapped shut with barbed wire. Her back leg was a mess of blood that left splatters on the ground behind her but she had no time to worry about the trail she was leaving. Her only priority was running.

It's not the first time someone had kidnapped Yoka and she anticipated that it wouldn't be the last. She was a young, attractive kitsune who happened to have a decent amount of wealth thanks to her successful businesses in the...entertainment industry.

Usually, though, her kidnappers wanted something specific from her. These last two didn't even seem to know who she was when they grabbed her.

Yoka was exhausted. She wasn't paying any attention when she dashed out onto the trail leading to the school. She wanted to keep running but she couldn't do it. With a surprised gasp that was muffled by the barbed wire closing her mouth, Yoka collapsed onto the trail, her sides heaving.

She was still conscious but she'd reached her limit.

Late in the day, Steven had recently fallen into the habit of strolling among the school grounds. A combination of enjoying the exercise while admiring the place, along with the seclution they offer to smoke in peace without getting himself into trouble again. It was on his way back to his dorm that Steven came along something that changed his intentions for the rest of the evening. Up ahead a animal that looked hurt. Approching slowly Steven started to remove his jacket, planning to wrap it around his arm to protect himself if the fox snapped out violently in fear, only for Steven to see the wire wrapped around it jaw.

"It's alright I won't hurt you." Steven said in a calm tone, not expecting the fox to understand his word but perhaps understand from the tone of his voice that his intentions were good as he crouched down by the fox to look at its wounds. Seeing the bloody leg and conflicted what to do. He didn't know who on the island dealt with injuried wild life, it not having been something he had learned yet on the island due to how he hadn't been there long yet. Taking on the task upon himself.

Reaching out with both hands carefully, hoping not to spook the animal. Steven created a small piece of ice in one hand and a tiny flame in the other. Using the two to create water slowly in his hands and let him wash the blood and matted fur of the fox's leg clean. The warm water, cleaning the wound to try and prevent any chance of a infection. He didn't have anything here to really treat the wound. Nor remove the barbed wire without hurting the animal more. After cleaning the wound Steven would try and carefully lift the fox and cradle it in his arm softly. To take them back to his dorm where he might be able to treat it more effectively.

Yoka heard footsteps behind her and her first reaction was to tense up.

Though her body was exhausted, her mind wasn't, and the fox spent several seconds trying to formulate a plan. Flight was exhausted, freeze wasn't going to work because the person obviously knew he was there, and fight? Did she have the energy to--

I'm not going to hurt you.

Yoka wasn't exactly keen to trust people at their word, but right now, she didn't have a choice.

She tilted her head back to get a glimpse of her rescuer. He looked young, but that didn't mean a thing on this island. Yoka looked to be a little younger than thirty and in truth she was over five hundred now. When he summoned the fire, Yoka felt a tinge of familiarity. She liked fire. It was one of her favorite elements.

It was a poor reason to trust someone but she did. She relaxed when he washed out her wound, though she flinched a little bit. She didn't bother to disguise the hiss of discomfort that snorted through her nose. She wasn't able to open up her mouth to yelp, but she did give a small whine.

When the man (boy? he was at that age yoka wasn't sure. She settled on man) picked her up in the jacket, she let him. She had to admire that he didn't try to take the barbed wire off. If she were a real fox, she would have bit him.

She might have bitten him anyway, just for appearances.

Yoka did try to show that she was cooperative by snuggling up against the man and enjoying his body heat, letting her cold nose boop him on the neck.

She'd have to go along for the ride.

Steven could feel the fox's cold nose againt his skin as he walked them back to the dorms. Slightly distracting him from trying to come up with the best way to treat the fox. It wasn't that long before Steven saw the dorm building. Sighing he wasn't sure about carrying the fox through the building itself. Though Steven knew that his own rooms window was open. A mix of liking the cold and so that his room didn't end up smelling of smoke if he did so.

Circling the building and finding his room. He struggled a little as he pull it open with one hand and held the fox with the other. Before climbing inside. He gently places the animal on his bed, leaving them with his jacket but hoping that it wouldn't end up to damaged or bloody. Before closing the window and then heading to the bathroom.

Steven's dorm room was spase for the most part except for the presence of a large number of books. One that as he returned from the bathroom with a small first aid kit, he picked up and quickly studied a few pages. As a refresher to memory before coming back to the fox and slowly climbing on the bed beside them.

Making sure that the leg wound was still clean, Steven then banaged it as best he could. Before moving onto the fox's mouth. The barb wire was a much more awkward problem. Likely to be painful in removal, so as a precurtion Steven actually banaged the fox mouth shut before careful application of tweezers and scissors slowly removed the wire and tossed it aside.

"There that should be better." Steven told the animal in a kind voice patting its head and then getting up from the bed once more. He returned with a small bag of chicken bites and opened the bag and placed it by the fox. Before cutting the bandage still holding the foxes mouth closed away and backing off.

Foxes do not posses the same facial muscles animals do.

Yoka, for example, had been surprised to learn that bears do not actually snarl. The menacing expression shown so often on bear skin rugs or bear mounts in hunting cabins, lodges, and museums was completely artificial. It was a way for taxidermists to show off the teeth!

Still, the look on her face was not entirely vulpine. She bunched up her eyebrows, especially when he put the tape over her mouth, but she could not deny he was doing the right thing.

Yoka did not dare to reveal that she could speak, although it didn't matter--there was no time. She was glad her mouth was bound shut because Yoka would have let out a few choice curses when he started to pull the barbed wire from her mouth.

Still, he did it quickly and appropriately. She appreciated that. She wondered if he was in training for medicine. if he was, maybe she'd offer him a job. She could always use another healer on staff.

When he left, Yoka thought about leaving herself but she was too exhausted and her magic was spent. What if she went home and the goons were there, looking for her? Her club was probably safe--there was too many enchantments for it not to be, she'd paid a fortune-- but she wasn't sure she wanted her staff to see her in this state.

Then, the boy returned with chicken. Her mouth filled with drool and when he cut the bandages off her snout, she pounced onto the food and began to eat like the animal she was pretending to be.

After a moment's hesitation, she realized it might not be lady like, and she grabbed a piece of the chicken and jumped off the bed.

Her leg gave out in pain and Yoka yelped. She dragged the piece of chicken and herself under the bed, where she ate it and thought.

After a moment's hesitation she grabbed something from beneath the bed and brought it out, looking at the young man with curiosity--and chicken grease--all over her face.

((ooc: feel free to decide what Yoka dragged out. I figured she'd cause some trouble.))

Steven chuckled lightly amused but still concerned as the fox grabbed the food it had given and quickly jumped beneath the bed in order to eat. "No need to be shy." He called softly taking a step back further and crouching down in order to see what the fox was doing. However as he was doing so the fox emerged dragging something with it. Steven eyes went slightly wide, and cheeks slightly red when he realised what it was. As the fox was holding in its mouth a small fluffy toy bunny.

The toy to Steven didn't have much in a way of pratical value to him. Though it was highly sentimental. One of the few things that he still possesed, which had been a present from his mother. His cousin had aquired it after having found Steven on the street and returned it with his other belonging. "Put that down." His voice came out more strained in tone then had up to the point. "That's not a toy." He added slightly loudly denying what was clearly fact.

Steven wanted to get the soft animal out of the foxes mouth, but was left not with many good options. The foxes was injuried and he could likely try and catch and force it. However he had no desire to risk further injury to the animal, nor having it bite him as a result. Groaning Steven quickly grabbed the pillow from his bed, holding it in a way to both protect his hand and trying to tempt the fox with it instead. "Come on drop the rabbit, the pillow just as soft here." His tone was hopeful, not that sure how likely it was to work. He would much rather go a few nights without a pillow, then lose something that was irreplacible due to the emotional value it had.

Interesting. Very interesting.

The soft rabbit seemed to reinforce the idea that this man who rescued her was not, in fact, a murder. Yoka had a lot of experiences with murderers and while some of them did have a fascination with keeping childhood objects and mommy obsessions, it did not seem to be the case here.

Actually, he seemed rather embarrassed by it.

It was probably rude manners to tease the person who'd not only rescued her, but fed her, too.

Even though he didn't seem like he wanted to hurt her, Yoka still wasn't sure she could trust him. And now that she had this, the fluffy bunny of power, Yoka felt like she had a sliver of control over this messy night.

She saw him advancing with the pillow and her eyes widened.

She didn't think he was going to smother her but....

Yoka grabbed the fluffy bunny in her teeth and jumped backwards, up onto the bed. It was an impressive feet of athleticism that her injured leg did not appreciate.

She held the fluffy rabbit in her mouth, but her teeth had not yet punctured it. Part of this was because her injured mouth was too sore to grip it too tightly.

She looked over the man's shoulder, and then looked over it and widened her eyes, acting as if there was something behind it.

If he looked, she was going to jump over his shoulders, her be damned, and aim for the window sill.

If he didn't look? Well, Yoka would just figure something out.

Steven was shocked as the fox leap back on the bed away from him. Not expecting it to be so spry with how its leg was injuried. Though he quickly straightened up and looked at it. Finding it odd that the fox hadn't started to damage the bunny in its mouth. He had heard of family with dogs having them destroyed by local foxes if they were left outside. What struck him as more odd was when the fox looked passed him wide eyed. It was an expression that exactly translated that well from fox to human. However not thinking he had done anything to spook the fox wondered if something else had and turned to look and saw nothing.

Seeing nothing and hearing the sudden movement back from the bed as the fox leap to the window. Steven whipped his head back round to look. Somewhat expecting that the animal wanted to flee from the strange location, however Steven had already had the forsight to close the window after climbing inside. So that the fox couldn't escape and risk hurting itself more. He was starting to feel he wasn't adapt at caring for the fox until it healed. Not knowing what exactly to do. Steven went back towards the bed. Grabbing his laptop from the desk on the way. Sitting down and setting the computer ontop of the pillow on top of his lap.

Opening the internet, Steven started to look up who on the island was meant to deal with wildlife, but didn't really make much in the way of progress. Periodically looking up from the screen to the animal. Partially out of cocern for his setimental bunny but more so to keep an eye on the fox to hopefully preventing it from hurting itself further in its panic and fear.

For a glorious moment Yoka saw escape and then

BANG

closed window.

She blinked, standing on the frame, her hind leg lifted up against her body to keep her weight off of it. She turned to face her rescuer but he....went on his laptop.

Okay. That was cool.

Yoka dropped the rabbit onto the windowsill next to her, curled up, and waited. She was patient! She was cunning! She'd had 500 years of life to entertain her. She could wait until she regained enough power and knowledge to draft the situation in her manner.

The problem was that Yoka became bored very easily. She'd had a few career changes in her 500 years, and though she was always focused on the end game, she liked to live in the moment.

And moments were passing.

After some time, Yoka uncurled herself and decided to see what was so fascinating on the laptop. Maybe it was naughty photos, she thought. She could use that to her advantage when she was human again.

More carefully, yoka padded to the edge of the window and landed on three legs on the floor. She limped over and hopped up onto the bed behind her new companion and sat down next to his head.

She looked at the laptop and sighed.

This was....practical things. What a very practical person. She decided she liked him. She was going to show him some fun.

She came down lower on the bed and pressed one paw on the keyboard and then looked at him, cocking her head to the side like a dog.

Steven looked up from the laptop screen once more when he heard the sound of the fox landing on floor. Slightly surprised that it had put the rabbit down, and watched as it limped over to him and climb onto the bed beside him. Thinking that the animal must have realised he meant them no harm. Pausing from the task of searching the internet to watch. Before smiling as the fox put a paw on the keyboard and looked up at him. "Ain't you a smart one." Steven said lifting and hand slowly and gently stroking the fox. Hoping that its fears had lessened, as it was the first time he had preformed an action without protecting his hand.

"Hmmm." He unconsiously made the sound as he looked down at the animal in thought. It was late and it was likely that even if he found out who was responsible for caring for the fox, he wondered if they would be so trusting of strangers. Sliding the laptop from under the fox's paw Steven instead changed the direction of his internet search. Instead looking up foxes, there diet and habits. To try and get in his head how he would care for it himself.

He doubted it was goig to be an easy task, but he was pretty sure he wouldn't get in much trouble for caring for an injuried animal. The dog like manner that the fox had looked at him with, giving Steven an idea. Cupping his hand and creating a few ice cubes in it for the fox. Hydration and something to play with all at once.
