Ding.
The first bell of the day rang. The last of the students begrudgingly filed into their homerooms and took their seats. Elias, who was already seated, stopped ruffling aimlessly through his backpack and straightened up. Operating on about three cups of coffee, he was prepared to start the regular day’s routine. It wasn’t like school bored him — Quite the opposite, actually. He was definitely more interested in learning than others were, and he took his studies very seriously. It was just that sometimes, the routine could get… well, boring.

So as he prepared himself for another day of repetitive lectures and note-taking, the teacher looked up from the papers at her desk. “Alright, class. Before we take roll call today, I’d like to introduce our newest student…” She announced to the class, gesturing to the door. Elias, his curiosity piqued, looked up as the door swung open.

'... Sarah, if you would come in, please.'

A young girl of no taller than 5'1" quietly and timidly made her way towards the front of the class. She was definitely intimidated by the thought of introducing herself to a big class without knowing anyone. Especially since she was so comfortable back at home - with people she had spent years to grow to know, to spend time with each other, and having fun with each other. Nevertheless, she had to get used to it sometime, and she would have to have a good first impression in order for her to get along well with others. It was no time to be scared.

'M-my name is Sarah, it's nice to meet you,' Sarah spoke, softly at first. 'I'm human, and from British Columbia in Canada.'

'I will be in your care from now on...'

The homeroom teacher was a very friendly and jovial woman - she looked barely in her mid-twenties, and Sarah found comfort in the teacher's approachability. She took control over the class immediately after.

'Alright, we've got an empty seat next to Elias. Sarah, you'll sit there, and Elias, could you help her acclimatise? Show her around the Academy as well, whenever you've got the time.'

It took Elias a second to respond. “Oh, uh, yeah, of course,” He stuttered out. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t surprised. New students came all the time as people found out about their own powers, that much wasn’t unexpected. What confused Elias was the fact that the teacher asked him to show her around today. He could think of a few, more social people that would serve as better tour guides for the day. Still, this would give him a chance to get to know someone and maybe even become friends. People generally avoided him because they thought he was a cold elitist, but Sarah didn’t know about his unjustified reputation. This was a chance for redemption.

She started to walk towards the seat next to him. Elias suddenly realized that he had forgotten about one thing: a greeting. What would he do when she sat down? Grinning and introducing himself was a friendly gesture, but it might come across as being overeager. He could simply wave, but what if she wasn’t paying attention to him? He would look stupid if she didn’t see. Alternatively, he could just wait for her to say something first, although she seemed shy when she introduced herself to the class.

Caught up in over analyzing the situation, he almost didn’t notice it when Sarah actually did sit down. He couldn’t think of any way to react to this situation, so he simply ignored her and kept his eyes on the teacher at the front of the room as roll call started. Though he may have appeared nonchalant on the outside, he was scolding himself on the inside.
