Terrible Twosome

Junchi cut in before Arjean could get a word out. "I can run fast, jump high, heal, and... uh... control petals." It was his first time speaking English to Jay, but it still felt weird and harder than his other languages. He surprised himself with how fast he could remember about words, but he found himself quieting when he had to explain his lame power of controlling flower petals.

He nudged for Arjean to go next so Jay wouldn't notice the last part. "Oh. Um... well... I can fly high, heal a bit, and c-control... um... the... the..." Seemed like they were having some trouble finding the words. "I can control water, air, and clouds. Like weather."

"We can do more," Junchi added on. "Like, uh... um... like turn into owls and deer and have their traits. We can also, uh, um... turn into these, um, our lower body is deer."

"Maman said like cervitaurs. Half deer half owl," Arjean told Junchi.​

Arjean looked at Junchi for a moment, not too sure on what to say. They shrugged, then started to list off the stuff they do. "I... play, draw, read, write, practice language, and... um, my mommies do, uh, what they call experime-" Before they could finished they were nudged by Junchi, then when they looked up towards Henghai they saw a quick glare. "Oh, um, not that... I guess..."

Junchi immediately took his place after Arjean drifted off in their speech. Well, as quickly as he could with the limited vocabulary he had. He had to take a few moments to actually think about what he wanted to say, else he'd just speak in broken and short sentences. "I practice for hunting like dad! I like to make music too. With my voice."​

Junchi froze up a bit at the question and tried to avoid eye contact with his daddy. As he looked away, he got himself a peek of Arjean, but he couldn't tell the expression on their face. They looked anxious and like they froze up too, but then they smiled brightly and nodded. He couldn't tell if they understood the question, or if they didn't and was just reciting stuff they were taught to say.

Before Arjean could get a true word out though, his daddy spoke for them. "First of all, I can still hear you. Second of all, you're making them uncomfortable asking questions like that. Third of all, of course they're okay, and they don't need any help." Junchi could tell he was getting a bit defensive, but they knew him to be a great liar... But Junchi also knew he wasn't really happy with Arjean's situation. Usually he used their maman Béatrice as an example for why their situation was wrong, but he was fine with Ade. Maybe he was just getting like this to make sure the Afolabi-Soies were safe, but when he thought back to how fearful Arjean acted towards nearly everything, he wondered if they actually deserved it. Their mommies probably didn't deserve it, and maybe Remi too, but she seemed to go through the same stuff too. Whatever that stuff was.​

Henghai tried to keep a smile on his face to keep the kids calm, but he was already preparing himself for leave. He wasn't in the mood to be accused by the Afolabi-Soies that he was the reason their secret almost got out. And he was especially not in the mood to deal with Anrong's anger and hours of lectures on how stupid he was. Henghai didn't agree with Arjean's situation one bit, but he also didn't agree with his own family's situation if the Afolabi-Soies got in trouble. He was sure being an accomplice by hiding information was reason enough to get into serious legal trouble.

As Jay stood up, he also stood up, though he didn't feel as powerful since he was only about two inches taller than her. Still, he tried to give a kind and warm glare as he faced her powerful glare. "Sorry about this. I get really anxious at times when babysitting the kids. Strangers aren't something I'm the best with," he lied. "Arjean and Junchi are fine though. Trust me. When Arjean was about to say experiment, it was because their moms like to give them lots of training, usually in their powers. They like to call them experiments, though the reason why is something I can't understand. I guess it's from their scientific backgrounds or whatever."

When he looked down he could see an uncomfortable Arjean, though he could also sense a bit of anger from them directed towards him. Maybe insulting their moms that much wasn't the best idea, but he could deal with that later. He picked up Arjean and began petting their hair in an attempt to calm them down, and he was thankful Junchi decided to behave for once. Instead of blabbering on and making the situation worse, he stayed quiet and looked down at his hooves anxiously.​

As Mr. Henghai held Arjean in his arms and pulled Junchi away, Arjean looked back at Jay. They wanted to talk to her more, but they got themself in trouble and now Mr. Hengai was mad. Now they were probably going to be punished for messing up by saying bad things. Next time they needed to watch what they were saying and not get themself into trouble. This was all their fault, and it was all because they weren't paying attention to what they were allowed to say.

"Bye bye," Arjean said as they waved at her sadly. They would see her again. They knew it. Arjean wanted to make things right and could see on her face that she was still suspicious. Maybe if they explained what was going on she wouldn't be so angry anymore and they could all be friends again. They wanted to see more of her tattoo magic and powers and thought she was really nice.​
