The creature lingered in the crowd, passing the police officer and grinning beneath it's hat. Today it wore the appearance of a teenage female in shorts and a t-shirt. Dark skin and bright blue eyes were a stark clash to the white shirt and shoes. It skipped past the young man with glasses, looking him up and down before sneering to itself and making its way toward the place where the proposal was taking place. There was a lot of jealousy there, jealousy was tasty, kinda like salt water caramel.

Inside the pub, the hostess looked up and was startled a bit by police officer. She laid a hand on her chest to catch her breath and look around, wondering what the police business was about. When he mentioned the cheese she raised an eyebrow, a confused smile stretching across her lips.

"Uh... no... we don't serve cheese dip anymore." She leaned forward and whispered. "The new owner is lactose intolerant and she threw a fit about an all cheese appetizer." She laughed and nodded across the street.

"If you're looking for cheese, there's a pizza joint that moved in on the floor above the toy store all the way across the street. They moved in about three weeks ago-still don't have a sign." She said, and scratched her head. "Though it there's also a fondue place about four doors down from here." She shrugged and looked out the window, making a face.

"You look like you have a stalker or somethin'."

Victor was lurking in the background when the Hostess stared at him, giving him a weird face like that girl from earlier, before he was hit by the officer's tail. Did he have something on his face?

He wasn't close enough to hear exactly what was being said when she leaned in, but he heard enough to find a new lead: the Pizza place above the toy store.

While it would know be bad for him to stay here, labelled as a stalker, but if the officer was also looking for Inky, then it'd best that they both helped each other.

Jake stood there awkwardly. Victor either didn't hear him or was ignoring him. He looked to where His line of sight was - the police officer? Jake took in smells around him; the officer smelled...like him - a wolf. Maybe this guy was a werewolf too. Jake had only met a one or two people like him on this island.

He cleared his throat first before speaking this time. "So, What'ya doin'?"

He jumped when he read his name called out. But it was just Jake, though he sounded a bit annoyed after clearing his throat. Did he accidentally ignore someone? Again?

"Oh hey, Jake. Um, you know, scavenger hunt." While he didn't like to lie unless necessary, Victor didn't think he should be talking about the Inky Chase in public.

"Oooo, sounds fun. Scavenging anything interesting?" Jake thought it was a bit strange to be looking for things outside of a pub. His care home used to do one for the younger kids to find feathers and certain types of flowers. Jake sniffed to see if there was any hint of cheese inside the pub - nothing. He subtly smelled the area until he found a scent. The second floor of a building across the road. "Cheese..." he thought aloud.

"Cheese?"

Officer Quinn's ears twitched and swiveled towards the two boys as he left the pub. He towered over them. His eyes, his ears, and even his nose were searching them for any sign that they meant him harm, or that this was some stupid prank. He really hoped this was just a stupid prank.

"I'm Officer Quinn. Did either of you boys happen to receive a note earlier today? A note containing threats to someone's life? It also had a riddle."

The moment Jake had mentioned cheese, Victor froze time, (thankfully there was no-one immune within range) and scribbled the Clues from Inky to another, blank sheet of paper, hoping to pass it off as an innocent game. even if jake wasn't already looking for him, it would be better for at least some help on the riddle.

But that possibility was shattered when the Officer he was following- Quinn, he said his name was - left the pub and overheard Jake as well.

Victor slowly raised his hand. "I had something like that... from someone called Inky"

Jack turned back when he heard the officer's voice. It was the man Victor was watching inside the pub; the one that had the scent of a wolf. He was surprised that the man knew exactly what was on his note - had he gotten one too? It also surprised him when Victor described the note too.

"The one about goopy cheese? ... I found that in the woods," he explained, rummaging through his pockets to find the note. Eventually finding the scrunched up piece of paper, Jake unfolded it it showed it to Officer Quinn.

Raphael took the note from Jake, just long enough to see that it was the same note, before giving it back.

"Okay. I'm actually here because I got the same thing. And, ah," an aside to Victor, "Sorry again about racking you."

He regarded the two boys for a minute. They could easily have been the ones who set this up as a trap. Or they could be in the same boat as he was. Tick, tock, tick, tock, he needed to make a decision about how to proceed here. Someone's life could be on the line. At least neither of them smelled like the thing that gave him this note.

"Alright. So we need to find this sick person, and fast." Since he was the authority here, he might as well take charge. "My best lead right now is the goopy cheese thing. There's a fondue place near here, and that's my next stop. Let's walk and talk." He'd start to walk away, gesturing for them to follow. "Who are you two? Do you know this 'Inky' at all?"

Well, at least he wasn't the only one looking for 'Inky', as now he knew both Jake and the Policeman had also received notes. It was strangely comforting.

Victor followed after the leaving guy, noting the name on his uniform. Raphael, like the painter. "I'm Victor Castleton, and the closest I've heard of this inky would be the nickname a guy gives himself on his paranormal blog, Though I'm certain there's no connection."
