Catherine the Zealot
Catherine Loranna Haust | Female | 42 | Lesbian
Human Paragon | Officer of the Law | Paladin of the Law
PERSONALITY Catherine is more than just a warrior. She could be argued as the personification of fervor and zealotry. She is obsessed with the law, worshiping it as a god in itself. Catherine is concerned with one thing and one thing only, protecting those under her care and enforcing the law to the absolute letter. In the face of injustice or the blatant disregard for the law, she has been known to fly into a rage, damning those who abuse the law to painful deaths; hence her title; the Zealot Despite her rough and absolutist exterior, she genuinely cares for those around her. She rarely goes out of her way to harm others and will give multiple warnings to stand down before flying into her "battle rage". She has been known to be rather kind and gentle to people and prays with a heartfelt devotion and love that is rare in the modern era. Her arguably dualistic personality leaves many concerned for her mental well being. Catherine has many flaws and quirks. She has a rather unhealthy attraction to women of the 'smaller' variety, preferring dainty and waifish girls to shower her affection and protection over. While by no means a pedophile (she's very strict, remember?) she does toe the line on occasion and has to control herself. Catherine has a bad habit of kicking men between the legs when she finds them irritating and has been chastised about that on numerous occasions. She rarely eats out of certain hours of the day and can be extremely overbearing during business hours, especially when she's hungry. |
APPEARANCE Catherine, metaphorically speaking, appears to be carved of marble. She has olive skin that is pale in the winter and dark in the summer. Her hair is jet black, and it hangs in curls unless she works on it. Her eyes are an impossible emerald green, almost like gemstones stuffed into her pupils. They seem to burn on the inside. She stands at just over a meter and a half and weighs slightly more than the average female of her height, given the density of her muscles. She has a defined core and abdomen, her arms and legs are powerfully built with toned muscles. Her bust is size-able, probably a C or D cup depending on who you ask. Catherine commonly wears gender neutral armor, though she has at times been made to wear the more 'form fitted' female armor. Otherwise she wears tan slacks, black pumps, and a white low cut blouse. |
SPECIES ABILITIES Human Paragon A Human Paragon is the apex of human development, just a hairs breadth between a human who bears the spark of the divine. Human Paragons possess supernatural speed, strength, endurance and hearing. Catherine can run at upwards of sixty miles per hour. Catherine can dead lift well over eight hundred pounds. Catherine's skin can resist most non modified bullets. Catherine can also hear from a distance of 100 feet. Human Paragons have a minor natural resistance to magic though intermediate or stronger spells can easily overcome that resistance. They are also highly resistant to poisons, drugs and other effects. Catherine, unlike other paragons, does not possess a healing factor and must either heal by using her own magic or by other means. While a Human Paragon is a tremendously dangerous foe to fight, they are by no means invincible. |
POWERS Enforce the Law Catherine's most potent ability. While holding Bastion she can declare a circle of up to 100 feet in radius as her domain. Within that area she can declare edicts to enforce her will upon reality within that particular area. These edicts are absolute, but she may only enforce one law at a time. If the law is changed, the effects of the previous law end immediately. As of now she only has mastered 4 edicts. She can only maintain her domain for an hour after cast and she must dismiss it before creating another. Catherine is not above the laws of her own domain and she must remain inside the area of her 'domain' symbolically enforcing the law. If Catherine loses consciousness or is cut off from the divine magic that fuels her powers, the domain will fade prematurely. Battery - Within Catherine's domain, physical damage is nullified. Containment - Magic effects may not enter or leave the domain. Truth - If one tells a lie within the area of the domain, the liar begins to glow for a few seconds. Restraint - Within the domain, movement is restricted to the ground. One may not leap, fly, or levitate. |
BACKGROUND Catherine was born on the island into a wealthy household. During her youth she studied the magical arts, eager to become a wizard and teach at the academy. She had been born a mortal, normal in almost every way except for the large amount of mana in her body. Unfortunately that mana lead her down a road that would change her life forever. Eager to get their hands on a youth with such powerful blood, a group of cultists kidnapped young Catherine and stole her away. During her imprisonment, Catherine was subject to many tortures and experiments, hoping to draw out her innate talent. However, nothing manifested. Then one night while imprisoned she spoke with one of her fellow prisoners who taught her to pray. Catherine prayed, and prayed, and prayed until her mouth was dry and tears stained her face. Even then, it was not a god that came to save her. The police had found the cult hide out and had proceeded with an assault. Despite her parent's best efforts, they could not convince Catherine to remain at home after what happened. She joined a convent, dedicating herself to her faith and to the protection of others. She became strong, and ever more devoted over the years. Every single day was spent honing her body, her mind, and her faith into a bastion of religious fervor. When there was nothing left to learn at the convent she departed and joined the police. It was a year later when Catherine's life truly changed. Already in her late twenties and experienced in religious magic, she went on her first major arrest assignment against a powerful special person. That talented individual wrought havoc on Catherine's men, killing several of them with flames in the first exchange of blows. Catherine demanded that the man heed the law, but he rebuffed her. Summoning her courage she reached for her weapon-and drew Bastion for the first time. The holy sword, she heard in her mind, was the mark of a Paladin, a holy knight of the law. She had been chosen to restore the ancient knighthood to this island with few protectors. Catherine was not one to doubt her faith. She committed to her new divine task, returning to the convent and taking over as its Matron while simultaneously fulfilling her role as an officer of the Law. She would find new paladins in this city, she would train them and raise them, and she would destroy dark magic wherever it raised it's ugly head. She would crush anyone who dared bring chaos to this peaceful place, and she would bring hope to those who needed it. Thus, Catherine the Zealot was born. |
