Afternoon
Downtown

A heady heat washed over downtown just after the cold front that passed a few hours before. The mixing temperatures threatened a rainstorm. All around town people milled about, living out their daily lives. A somber gray sky was all that one could see, all the way to the horizon. Yet people were still happy, the island was a wonderful place to live. Or so they thought. Three people in particular would find that day to be one of the most trying they'd ever experienced, and the beginning of something much, much worse.

Those three people were brushed by a purple haze that afternoon, a delicate gust of wind that tingled on their skin. The purple haze smelled differently for each person; if one happened to find the scent of fresh cut grass to be the most enticing thing in the world, that is the scent they caught. It was an eerie, uncomfortable feeling for some people in the world around them. A scent they found so delightful that seemed to pass and fade in an instant. Yet for those three people that the haze had chosen, they were left with something. A note.

The note was written in a scrawling hand, with red ink that smelled faintly of copper and iron. The note was covered in doodles and scratches, as if the writer had grown distracted during the process of writing the note;

Let's play a game! :D
A person in town is very, very sick! :(
If he gets sicker, he will hurt someone! :O
Can you find him? ;)
Or will you fail? >D
On this note are hints. <3

Kraven men are so easily seduced.
Cheese is best hot and goopy.
Management is responsible for treating its employees well.

It is watching. Have fun! :D <3
Love, Inky

On the back of the note is a map, marking the center of down town.

OOC: Good luck!

Victor, being the guy that he is, was in the library at the time of the purple haze appearing. originally he was reading a book on necromancy, but the concept behind it terrified him, controlling the dead seemed just rude. Best to leave the passed alone.

Anyway, he didn't notice the smell at first. But eventually, he area that he was in the new book section, far from the older books that he would have been smelling. Looking up, he saw a note falling slowly from an unseen place. Grabbing it out of the air, he quickly read it and frowned.

"Kraven men.... easily seduced. Cheese.... hot and gloopy?" Victor frowned. Not a haiku. But the text.... the ink itself made him uneasy.

Flipping it over, he noticed that there was a big red mark on a map. Seeming to be of Manta Carlos' downtown area, he went to take a look. He froze time, and reading over the note again, left school grounds.

Upon reaching the place marked, he started time again and looked around. This "Inky" person seemed a bit crazy, what with the doodles, and this game of hide and seek.

Since he had no connection to the instigator, Victor saw a chance that others were chosen to "play" as well.

He had a guess about what he needed to find. A male unashamed of their sexuality.

But that could be so many people! He thought to himself, looking at the passerby.

But what about the other hints? This was not enough info to win. Maybe there was a hint in the "random" sketches?

Jake was out for his daily run, the wind gushing through his hair. As he was running, he swore he could smell ... steak? Who would be cooking steak in the woods? Before he realised, a purple mist engulfed him, not thick but enough to notice it was a perculiar colour. He stopped and looked around when a note started to drift down. Catching it before it touched the ground, he began to read it.

He couldn't make sense of it. Was this some sort of prank that Red was playing on him? Riddles needed intelligence and common sense; neither of which Jake possessed. He decided to play along and try to figure it out.

Maybe this person was a manager of a cheesery who liked to sleep around. Maybe the cheese was suppose to represent the guy: hot as in good looking or maybe hot-headed and goopy as in sentimental. All this thinking about cheese and the smell of steak was starting to make Jake's stomach rumble.

Turning over the note, Jake noticed a map with a location marked on it. What was the harm in checking it out? Plus, he hadn't been to the city yet; it could be fun. He started to make his way to the place on the map.

The first thing Raphael did was dust the note for prints. There were none except for his own. He sealed it in a clear evidence bag in his police cruiser.

Then, he called it in. Subject was taunting an on-duty police officer with his plans to use a mind control or influence technique to cause a murder. Subject is capable of turning into a dark-colored mist, and smells like a juicy steak. The finest steak you've ever smelled, he clarified. The plans were communicated via a note written in what appears to be blood. A map is attached, with a mark by the corner of Blackbeard and Le Fey streets. Subject introduced him or her self as "Inky."

Raphael had permission to head there immediately, and so he did. He started to think about the contents of the note's clues as he did so. "Cheese is best served hot and goopy..." he muttered to himself. Wasn't there a fondue place in that area? Or was that several streets farther down? If there was, that would be his first stop.

Downtown was not exactly a small area by any means. The intersection of Blackbeard and LeFay gave way to the larger shopping arcade, cultural buildings and other monuments to society and civilization here on Monte Carlos. Not only were their shops of all kinds; clothing stores, magic shops, and even toy stores. There were eateries as well; a chocolatier, a steakhouse and a ritzy pub were the most immediately noticeable. Along the street several vendors had set up, but there were far too many to differentiate them at first glance.

A couple walked by Raphael, giving him only passing glances before making their way toward a smaller shop nestled in between the chocolatier and the toy store. Outside a woman was handing out samples. Jake found himself on a separate corner, facing a rather obscure modern art statue. Several people were sitting at it's base, eating food wrapped in foil. One of them exclaimed that the sausage was too tough. Victor found himself near a historic building that had been preserved. Next to it was a book store that catered to those interested in the magical arts, though from the signs on the front, only certain people were allowed entrance.

A shout of alarm broke out over the center of town. Several people looked toward the noise and were delighted to see a couple standing near the corner of LeFay, in front of another iconic statue. A man on his knee and a woman with tears in her eyes.

THE HUNT BEGINS

The place seemed normal, like something out of a novel. Lots of people were scattered everywhere, eating and laughing and having overall a good time.Only strange thing was the street names. Blackbeard, the pirate, and LeFay, Arthur's Witch sister.

Victor was next to an old building. It might have been an original site, but he wasn't sure. Starting time again, he looked at the people around him again for any suspicious behaviour. Maybe a clue was to be found? He recognised some people, as they were fellow students at the academy, plus his roommate Jake.

Not wanting a conversation with the werewolf, he averted his eyes, and saw the Magic bookstore and its warnings. Would he be allowed in? Probably not, he had no magic ancestry, not that he knew of, at least. It wasn't a cheese store, so either way he had to ignore it.

He heard a scream of alarm, and looked towards the source. A man on his knee. Did he fall? A woman was next to him, crying. Maybe he proposed, thus the clapping, bu he doubted it. Why the scream?

Jake was so confused. He was at a statue surrounded by people. Was one of these the person he needed to find? Sometimes he really hated having a superhuman sense of smell; he could small all the food in one go and he was starving. He couldn't help but laugh at the person who was complaining that their sausage was too tough - he was so immature.

Scouring the crowd, he tried to see if there was any suspicous behaivour. One guy looked shady so he thought about tackling him, but that would make a scene. Plus, if that wasn't the guy he was looking for, it would be incredibly awkward.

There was a shout coming from the centre of town. Turning around instantly, Jake looked to see if someone was in trouble. It seemed as though someone was proposing so he dismissed it. He hated all that romantic crap so he returned to glare at the crowd.

Raphael was wrong about the fondue place. That was multiple blocks away from here. Time was his enemy, and he was agitated, stressed out. A wolfman on a mission, he walked with long strides, pushing past people, ears swiveling, eyes peeled.

A scream. Rafa's entire body turned, his tail sticking out straight and hitting a passerby between the legs. The scream meant nothing, as it turned out; it was just a proposal. Well, to be fair, that was probably a big deal for the people involved, but for Rafa's current p

"O-ow..." the man whose groin had collided with Rafa's tail did not look like he was in good shape.

His mouth became a waterfall of rapid, profuse apologies. "Gods, I'm so sorry about that, are you okay? Can I..."

The unfortunate pedestrian confirmed that he would be fine. Raphael continued his frantic search, cursing the loss of time. He spotted a pub, and his mind began to whir. "Cheese served hot and goopy," he muttered to himself. "I think that's a pub appetizer." As he got closer to the entrance, the pub seemed more and more like it was the place to be - earned or not, bars had a reputation as a place to hook up. "Kraven men..."

Not a clue what that word meant with that spelling. Maybe he'd find out. He went straight to the hostess who stood just inside the entrance. "Hello, Ma'am. Police business. Do you serve anything here that's... just, mostly gooey cheese?"

He would barely be looking at her; his eyes would be scanning the restaurant, ears swiveling to detect any disturbances.

Of all places, why did the officer hit him there? For a moment Victor was kneeling on the ground, while the latter was apologising

After he managed to catch his breath, Victor finally told the Officer that he would be alright. He was still in pain, but he heard the man mention Hot and Goopy Cheese. The second clue.

Victor Followed the officer down the street a bit until he realized the destination. A Pub. Whats the drinking age in Manta Carlos? 18? he's definitely too young. He waited outside the door for the Officer to see what he knew about the Inky- Chase thing.

As Jake was scanning the crowd, he felt a sharp feeling of someone's pain. He never really understood how he could "sense" others feelings, but each emotion created a distinct sensation. He looked around until he saw his roommate, Victor, kneeling.

He started to approach him as he waited outside of a pub. Was he waiting for someone? "Hey, Victor. You okay?"
