Yuki growled. "DID YOU JUST CALL ME A FURRY, YOU INCOMPETENT PIECE OF WET SOAP?" The sharkygirl bared her teeth, the sharp points gleaming as she yelled. "AND I WOULDN'T WOULD HAVE HAD TO TACKLE YOU HAD YOU NOT BEEN A HUGE DOUCHENOZZLE ABOUT THE BURGER YOU FLOPPY NOODLE!"

"WHAT, ARE YOU NOT A FURRY, BECAUSE I TOTALLY MISTOOK YOU FOR A SHARK FUCKER! SHARK FUCKER!"

Lei attempted to roll away to no avail. He attempted to whack her in the face hard enough to distract her so he could roll away and fight her properly.

"I'M THE FLOPPY NOODLE? NO, YOU'RE THE FLOPPY NOODLE! YOU'RE THE OVERCOOKED SLUDGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOILING PAN!"

Yuki winced as his palm pushed into her face, she pushed it away before he could push his hand all the way up to her hair. She reacted pretty quickly to that, maybe a weak point?

"YOU WANT TO SAY THAT AGAIN, YOU MICROWAVED BLOB OF KY JELLY?" She yelled angrily. Her balance was off a little now, as she rose up with the hit slightly. Lei might be able to push her onto her back if he used a bit more strength.

"I'M SAYING IT AGAIN, YOU DAY OLD BAG OF BIODEGRADABLES, YOU ARE THE HUMAN EQUIVALENT OF EXPIRED FRUIT YOGURT."

He wasn't the strongest or heaviest person, but years of bullying made him better at spotting opportunities. When she was thrown off balance, he took that as his opportunity to push her to her back with all his might and get the hell out of dodge.

"YOU MISBEGOTTEN SON OF A LEPROUS DONKEY-" Yuki started to yell as Lei pushed her. She wasn't really expecting to get shoved with any kind of force and was knocked onto her back. She never let go of Lei's shirt though, and the white haired boy ended up on top of her. She growled up at him. "YOU MOLDY DONUT! YOU ARE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MAYONNAISE GETS LEFT IN THE SON FOR THREE WEEKS!"

All right.

Lei wanted to run and forget this ever happened, but if she was playing dirty, he was playing dirty. He noticed the way she self-consciously covered her face when he threatened to shove her head and, consequently, her hair away. If he spooked her to move her face away again, he could make his escape. He reached down to push her bangs away.

...

Oh.

He guessed "hideous birth defect" or "one eyeball" so he could get away with harassing her, but instead, he saw there were scars all over her face. She was trying to hide a bad memory. This was bad. He felt really bad.

He didn't feel like fighting anymore. He pulled away and sat up, but he could only roll off if she let go of his shirt.

"I'm sorry," he said with an uncharacteristically soft tone, looking away.

Yuki growled. Who did this guy think he was? Eating HER burger? Insulting her? She'd show him! She opened her mouth to spit another sick burn when he pushed her bangs up. She was distracted with the fight, and didn't catch his movement until it was too late.

Her face was revealed, her eyes opened wide in surprise. All around her forehead and eyes were scars, all shapes and sizes. They were faded, showing how old they were, but there were a lot of them. The largest extended from over he left eye, trailing across her face to right under her right.

Yuki's yellow eyes met Lei's blue orbs for a few seconds. Yuki continued to stare up, even after Lei looked away. Her hands fell from his shirt, limp. She didn't know how to react. Someone saw her scars. He was going to make fun of her for it, she just knew it. He'd be just like the others.

Voices filled her head, drowning out Lei's apology.

'Scarface! Hey Scarface!'

'What's up Sharptooth? Did you bite your own face?'

'Hey guys! Look at the Little Shark Freak!'

'What's wrong with your eyes, did you spill paint in them?'

'Look at those freaky scars!'

'Freak, freak!'

Yuki was lost in her horrible memories, tears welling up at the corner of her still visible eyes. She sniffed, her breath starting to get shaky as the tears started to fall down her cheeks, a faraway look in her bright yellow eyes.

Shark girl was crying.

But if she cried, he was going to cry.

"No no no no no no no no!!!" Tears started welling up to his eyes. He wanted to run, or maybe fight her a little! He never wanted to make her cry! Guilt began to weigh on him, and hand in hand with guilt was the usual anxiety. He gripped his hair and screeched. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! I was a douche — I didn't mean to —!!!"

Tears continued to flow from Yuki's bright yellow eyes as Lei apologized. She stared at the ceiling, the stain from the condiments still there, a few drops dripping off onto the table behind her and Lei. Her breath was shaking with each breath she took.

Yuki's mind was racing through the terrible memories of the teasing and taunting her appearance brought her when she was younger, the reason she kept her hair the way she did. Her mind drifted to the last time she broke down like this, to her grandmother comforting her. The elderly woman was always there for Yuki, raising her after her parents untimely passing. The girl hadn't cried in years, not since before she had heard of her grandmother passing. She never had cried when it happened. The Sharkgirl had pondered it a few times, eventually writing it off as shock.

Lei had moved off of Yuki, moving to kneel next to her. He was looking down at the crying girl. Her head shifted, and she met Lei's Gaze. For a second, his face looked just like her grandmothers, her memories melding with reality. His eyes looked so much like hers...That was the last straw for Yuki, the dam finally breaking.

The girl shifted, wrapping her arms around Lei and crying into his chest, sobbing loudly. He was warm, soft. Just like Grandma... The bluenette squeezed Lei as she sobbed, years of repressed tears flowing like a river.

Lei... did not know what to do.

It was awkward as all hell. Don't get him wrong, Lei lived and breathed awkward. He had a weekly subscription to awkward situations that never stopped spamming his mailbox with brochures. Just the other day he thought Marina Bellamy was waving at him so he waved back, only to find out she was waving to someone behind him. That was the sort of situation he was used to.

This was a whole different level of awkward. Now, something must've happened, and he must've triggered something or other and really, he could sympathize, but... he only knew the girl for like an hour? Not even? He felt so bad for causing this and he sincerely wanted to help, but he should probably hand her over to a friend or a dorm parent.

He stroked her back in a way he hoped was soothing. "There, there... Shark girl. I'm... sorry for not sharing my burger and pulling your hair up. That wasn't cool. I'll make it up to you, all right? I don't think the cafeteria's selling anymore food that isn't junk food garbage, so we can go into the city or something. I dunno. Please don't cry."
